About this property

Stunning Home! Rare Views & Ultimate Privacy – Perfect Location Bordering RMNP!

Experience the breathtaking beauty of the Rocky Mountains at Estes Peak Retreat, a stunning custom home nestled on 31 private acres bordering Rocky Mountain National Park. Just over two miles from the park entrance and a quick six-minute drive to downtown Estes Park, this one-of-a-kind escape offers both seclusion and convenience. Plus, thanks to its unique location, the property enjoys an INCREDIBLY LOW TAX RATE—just 3.7% compared to the typical 14.2%! (registration # 6172, Larimer county Approval Number: 20-NCD0254)

Step onto the expansive 1,000 sq. ft. Brazilian redwood porch, where you can unwind by the fireplace, soak in the hot tub, or dine under the stars—all while taking in awe-inspiring mountain views and frequent visits from local wildlife. Inside, the home exudes warmth and luxury with custom alder wood trim and cabinetry—the same durable wood used in Venice’s historic pilings and Fender guitars. With three spacious king bedrooms, multiple inviting living areas, and both indoor and outdoor fireplaces, this retreat is designed for unforgettable mountain getaways.

House features:

The deluxe kitchen at Estes Peak Retreat is a chef’s dream, featuring spacious granite countertops, a luxurious island, and a high-end gas stove. Fully equipped with top-tier cookware and a selection of spices, it has everything needed to create gourmet meals. The adjoining dining area boasts an extended table, perfect for family reunions or lively gatherings with friends—all set against the stunning backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.

Estes Peak Retreat offers three spacious king bedrooms and 3 ½ baths, ensuring comfort for every guest. An additional trundle bed in the lower-level open area and a twin bed in one of the king bedrooms provide extra sleeping space. Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows frame breathtaking mountain views, with two bedrooms offering especially stunning panoramas. For added convenience, a washer and dryer are available for guest use.

With three inviting sitting areas, there’s space for everyone—each bedroom has i't own private area nearby for entertainment and relaxation. Enjoy Dish TV in the upper and lower living areas, as well as in the master bedroom, along with WiFi and an outdoor grill for added convenience. After a day of snowshoeing, hiking, or skiing, unwind by the indoor or outdoor fireplace or soak in the hot tub under the mountain sky. Snowshoes are provided for winter adventurers!

The half-mile mountain driveway ensures ultimate privacy, keeping curious onlookers at bay and allowing guests to fully relax in seclusion. While the driveway is easily navigable in the summer—even in a Prius—its three sharp turns make it less suitable for large RVs. In snowy conditions, four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or snow tires are required for safe access. For added convenience, an electric vehicle outlet is available in the garage..

From June to early September, we prioritize full-week Saturday-to-Saturday bookings. As these months approach, we may offer shorter stays if availability allows. During other times of the year, the minimum stay ranges from 2 to 4 nights. If you spot an opening on the calendar that you’re unable to book, please reach out—we’d love to accommodate you and share the beauty of Estes Peak Retreat!

A friendly recommendation: We strongly suggest purchasing rental insurance for any vacation in Colorado. While the experience here is truly unforgettable, and our guests have marveled at the breathtaking beauty right from our home, unpredictable events—from snowstorms and wildfires to illness or travel disruptions—can arise. We want you to book with confidence, knowing your getaway is protected no matter what.

For the safety and security of both our property and guests, the basement door is equipped with a NEST door lock and doorbell.

The pictures don’t do this place justice

We stayed for 3 nights the first week of May. My kids are all adults and said it was the nicest place they ever stayed, and we have traveled a lot. There are beautiful Mountain View’s, the kitchen and rest of the home had everything we needed. It’s located just far enough away from town to feel secluded, but close enough to be convenient. I would recommend this home if you plan to stay near Estes Park and RMNP.

PERFECTION!

My husband and I were finally able to take our honeymoon after several years and found this property and to say it was a dream would be lie. The home was stunning and the views were even better from the property. To say we had the best honeymoon would be an understatement and we will be returning for sure. The host was amazing answering all of our questions, and staying in communication with us making sure we were well taken care of. If you are even thinking about staying here just stop and book it, I promise it will be worth every bit you won't want to leave.

An Absolute Gem of a Property

This is a wonderful and well-kept home. The views out of the expansive windows in the main living area and bedrooms are breathtaking. The home is minutes from RNP, as well as the Roosevelt National Forest, and there are many options for outdoor activities. Downtown Estes Park with its restaurants and shopping is also less than 10 minutes away. The owners are very friendly and accommodating as well. This property is a 10/10 in all respects.

Refreshing

This stay was everything my husband and I needed. A much needed getaway from the world and this location definitely knew the assignment. Away from everything except nature and it was electrifying( literally) as the mountains vibrated energy from them. Heidi was amazing from the beginning of our check in until the end at our check out. The perfect energy cleanse to remove all blockages. Don’t wait book!

Memorable Family Trip

I would high recommend this property for your vacation. The property is super close to Rocky MT national park. Great view and convenient to the grocery store. Very clean house and family friend. The most important is the owners are super nice. They gave us a lot helps and suggestions for snow hiking. If we have another trip there, we will definitely live there again.

A Beautiful Mountain "Hug"

My husband & I took a quick little mountain getaway, but it was so much more! Our time at this beautiful VRBO home was priceless, feeling blessed to be able to experience such an incredible place where you are surrounded by the incredible million-dollar views of Castle Mountain, and Rocky Mountain National Forrest. Harvey and Heidi think of literally everything to ensure your stay will be the BEST! We enjoyed creating meals in the fully stocked kitchen. Everything - I mean everything is thoughtfully and lovingly set up for guests.

Above & Beyond

This home exceeded our expectations. It's beautifully appointed, everything you need. Well kept. Clean and tastefully decorated. It truly fulfills its name -- Estes Peak Retreat. We hiked a lot and everything both in the park and out of the park are close. Sits on private acreage with FAB views. Host has provided helpful directions around the home and the hot tub rocks after long hikes. We would love to visit again!

Hidden Gem!!

Wow! This place has all the cozy comforts of home wrapped in a luxurious package. Thoughtful touches greeted us at every turn… Keyless check-in was simple, pillows and throws were scattered throughout; a wood-burning fireplace was ready with supplies; the kitchen was well-stocked; an upstairs closet was filled with games, books, and toys; the beds and bedding were super comfortable; there was a large hot tub on the deck; tv’s were in multiple locations; even some outdoor gear was provided! This property is beautiful with breathtaking views located just minutes from downtown Estes Park with a variety of shops and fun restaurants. Our stay was exceptional! Don’t miss this hidden gem!!

ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!!!! 5⭐️+!

Listen, I’ve rented a lot of vacation rentals in the woods and there is absolutely no place that matches this spot. It is just dreamy! Everyone from grandparents to young children loved this place. The beds were very comfortable and the views were majestic! It has a convenient entry into RMNP and easy proximity into town. Don’t be nervous by the driveway - any place with views like this is worth the climb. You can tell how much the Owners take pride in this property - the details show! It was one of my most memorable mountain trips. Thanks for making it so special for our family!!! Do not pass up this rental - it is such a gem! We would be lucky to stay here again.

EVERYTHING IS OUTSTANDING!!

Where to start? We stayed a week and loved the beautiful home. The views are breathtaking in all directions. You could be entirely happy just enjoying the fireplace, hot tub and decks (with abundant deck furniture). The kitchen was better equipped than any VRBO we have used (and that is quite a lot). Heidi was a hostess like no other. Thank heavens she reached out to us on the day that we could make reservations for Rocky Mountain National Park or we might have missed the timed entry permit. The beds are comfortable and the layout of the house allows each family group (using the different rooms) to have plenty of privacy - not to mention the privacy of the whole property. The entire experience was fabulous - start to finish!

Perfect in every way!

Where do I begin! This place is just awesome! From the start, Heidi and Harvey were amazing at communicating with us and answering any questions we had! This home has it all! Location, views, amenities and so much more! The home is very well stocked and lacks for nothing! All you need are your clothes and some food! The beds in all bedrooms are very comfortable and have soft blankets and sheets! Lots of pillows too! From the unique mountain home decor, the beautiful woodwork throughout, the large windows and wrap around deck, the outdoor fireplace, the hot tub, the outdoor dining options with a BBQ grill and plenty of property to explore (which made this home so private), this place offered so much more than we ever expected! Our family of six adults absolutely loved it and we would all highly recommend it! Do not pass on this home, you will surely be missing out!

Erin’s wedding weekend

I rented this home for a home base during my daughters wedding week on May 6. No issues whatsoever. Great property and wonderful location. A very nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Estes Park village. Thank you Heidi for recommending we take the micro spikes provided as we certainly did need them on the three hikes we did in the Rocky Mountain national park. We would not have been able to do these hikes without them. Very convenient location for hiking. Wildlife all over the place. Great amenities and spacious rooms. driveway is wonderfully maintained, although somewhat challenging at night! A friend came to visit us and drove a Tesla so most any car can get up it in normal conditions. We will be back. Thank you

Better than you can possibly imagine

I almost hate leaving this review - because I don’t want to fight you for an opening when we come back. Nothing to see here folks! It is definitely NOT impeccably clean, with probably THE BEST, THE VERY BEST, view up the valley into the park. And it is DEFINITELY NOT so close that you could be at the park entrance in 5 minutes or less! And don’t get me started on how not BEAUTIFUL the house itself is, so QUIET near the very TOP of the mountain! Who wants to be at the TOP when you can be at the bottom, adjacent to the road? Oh and the house is definitely NOT stocked with EVERYTHING and ANYTHING you might need to enjoy your time in one of the most beautiful spots in the country. Seriously, DO NOT book immediately. Say anywhere but here… so we can have the pick of the calendar next time we return! :).

Magnificent mountain views and stunning sunsets!

A tranquil haven in the heart of the Rockies nestled amidst the majestic peaks of Estes Park, this luxurious mountain retreat offers a sanctuary of serenity. From the moment you arrive, you're enveloped in the natural beauty of towering pines and breathtaking vistas stretching as far as the eye can see. The exquisite attention to detail and tasetful design is evident from the moment you step inside the cabin. The space seamlessly blends rustic charm with modern sophistication, creating a retreat that is both inviting and refined. Sizable windows frame panoramic mountain views and each room is thoughtfully appointed with every comfort in mind. From sumptuous bedding to luxurious bath amenities, no detail has been overlooked. Whether you're curling up by the fireplace with a good book, soaking in the private hot tub under a canopy of stars, or savoring a gourmet meal prepared in the state-of-the-art kitchen, every moment is one of pure indulgence. But it's not just the interior that dazzles—the outdoor spaces are equally impressive. Expansive decks offer the perfect spot for al fresco dining or simply taking in the awe-inspiring scenery. And with miles of hiking trails right outside your door, adventure awaits at every turn. What truly sets this retreat apart, however, is the impeccable service. From the moment you inquire about your stay to the day you arrive, the host maintains a steady, open stream of communication for any questions that might arise. Can’t wait to go back!

Gorgeous setting

The property is beautiful inside and out! The views of the surrounding mountains are gorgeous! It is very close to RMNP and Estes Park. We enjoyed our stay and found the hosts (owners) to be very easy to communicate with and they provided wonderful guidance on visiting the area (park passes, local attractions, etc.). Since the property, like many in the area, does not have air conditioning, it did get a little warm in the house during the day when all the windows were closed even with the fans running but it cooled down fairly quickly once we were back and could open the windows. The first floor seemed to stay cool all day so we hung out down there quite a bit especially once we discovered that the bed on that level was more comfortable for us (a little firmer). 😃 We also enjoyed having the outdoor fireplace as it did get chilly outside in the evening - beware of the wind before starting your fire as we had to douse ours one night before we really wanted to because even with keeping the screen in place (as required), we felt like the wind was blowing embers around too much and the last thing we wanted to do was be the cause of a forest fire!! 😀 - so just a little warning but otherwise, thoroughly enjoyed having that feature available. Overall, we highly recommend this home - I’d love to come back later in the fall and see it with snow covering everything - I’m certain it would be even more beautiful than many of the Christmas postcards I’ve seen. Thank you!

This was our 2nd year staying at this stunning home and we absolutely loved it, once again. My husband and I stayed for 10 days this time and still felt like we could have stayed longer. We had family nearby in Longmont that came to stay with us for the weekend and Heidi was so generous with her permission for them to come stay with us, even at last minutes notice. She is truly so kind and we all had the best time! I cant say enough good things about this home and owner. Looking forward to next year already!

About the host

Hosted by Heidi Shepard

Host profile image
We love traveling as well as the outdoors. After living for several years overseas, we moved to Denver. Our wedding photographer son (instagram: nateshepardphoto) initially drew us into Estes with his remarkable photos of RMNP. We started hiking there and were in love with both the park and the town.

Why they chose this property

From all of our travels, one of our favorite places in the world is RMNP. Having decided to retire in Estes Park one day, we started hunting for the "perfect" property, and found it with Estes Peak Retreat. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

We loved this property as it's so close to the entrance of the park and we can avoid the downtown traffic. We also just cherish the solitude and spectacular views that this setting provides. Finally, the home is a work of art. We're always impressed by the thought and tremendous care which went into the design and building of this home. We have hand-picked items from our travels around the world to add to this beautiful space.
