About this property

Comraich Iolaire/Eagle Sanctuary--gorgeous view St. Ann's Bay on Cabot Trail

This gorgeous chalet home has three bedrooms including a master loft bedroom with master bath on the second floor.

The master bath has a shower with three different heads and six settings in addition to a claw-foot tub. The bathroom on the first floor has been completely renovated and includes a mosaic shower floor depicting an eagle in flight that was created by one of your two hosts. In addition, a new heat pump with AC is installed in the master loft.

There are two bedrooms on the first floor along with a beautiful new bathroom. The entire front wall is glass, which makes for a spectacular view of the water, St. Ann's Bay, and Jersey Cove, You will see all sorts of water birds including osprey, the occasional seal. There is a new eagles' next about 400 M from the driveway, and two young eagles continue to fly around the Jersey Cove Rd. There is outdoor art from Iron Art Studios, and eagles fly over the eagle sculpture to fish in the bay. Comraich Iolaire is Gaelic for eagle sanctuary.

The kitchen includes a new glass-top stope and new dishwasher in addition to a new kitchen faucet. Please enjoy the new amenities and take care of them as if they were your own. The home is in the heart of St. Ann's Bay, at the beginning of the Cabot Trail and just 25 minutes by Baddeck.

This house has everything you need whether it's for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks. The kitchen is fully loaded, and there are several good restaurants within a 30-minute drive. Wake up early or late and watch the tides flow in and out of the bay. Take out the hammock, string it up, and enjoy a peaceful morning or afternoon rocking to the ocean breeze.

The front great room is full of original art, most of which has been collected from Cape Breton artists. There is also original art in the master loft as well as mosaic night stands. Each bathroom contains steel towel racks designed and cut from a sheet of steel by Cynthia, one of your hosts.

The house inspires peace, calm, and renewal.

The house is located at the beginning of the Cabot Trail and is 10Km away from some of the best crafts people and artists on the trail. In addition, it is in the center of the island and is a great launching pad no matter where you want to go on Cape Breton.

The property is registered with Nova Scotia Tourist Accommodations--RYA-2023-24-04051244177415938-384.

5th time to Cape Breton.

Mark's property was a good homebase for us to travel around the island. The home was all that we read about and it was an enjoyable visit.

Amazing stay!

Had an amazing time staying in Jersey Cove! Our only wish was that we had booked for longer! What a comfortable and quiet place, with truly beautiful views (especially of the moon over the water at night!). Thank you Mark!

Wonderful Holiday House

This is a perfect location for a cCape Breton vacation. Clean, well appointed. Very good beds and lovely open space for family or friends gathering . Since it's central, it makes it easier to get to all parts of the island. Easy conversion with the owner if questions arise. A great place to stay.

Very well kept property. Would have been nice to have had a heads up on the no TV situation, we could have brought a DVD player and movies.

Peaceful

We found ourselves wishing for a rainy day to spend reading books and sipping tea in this lovely retreat. Mark is attentive. You definitely feel more like a guest than a renter. Exceptional showers and comfortable beds. Great hikes, restaurants nearby. Little ferry going back and forth is an added delight.

Beautiful home with scenic views

This beautiful home is literally a peaceful sanctuary, the home has everything you need for your stay with all the comforts of home and more. Mark was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. He has a top notch guide for your stay with suggestions for the best shops and restaurants, including lobster suppers restaurant for our 40th anniversary. Cape Breton and Jersey Cove is the most beautiful place on this earth. The Cabot trail is breathtaking, we drove it in a day. We hope to visit again some day!

A Beautiful Retreat

This is an exceptional property located on the waterfront and adjacent to the Cabot Trail. It has been tastefully renovated and boasts a collection of local artists. The open concept with the second floor loft master bedroom overlooking the two story front windows facing the waterfront is quite impressive and uplifting. This cottage has two large fully equipped bathrooms. One adjacent the master bedroom and the second one is adjacent one the two ground floor bedrooms. The master bathroom also offers a huge claw foot bath tub. The kitchen is fully equipped and is adjacent the dining area and living room. For the colder weather, there is a wood burning stove. We were so impressed by the house, it's location and the views it offers that we would not hesitate to rent it again. The owner, Mark was just a phone call away.

Great place!

We absolutely LOVED this house! Layout was comfortable for 3 couples. Kitchen was well equipped. Very clean, very private, and the views are beautiful! Mark was great to work with. The only thing we'd recommend is, MAKE SURE to get all your food and groceries BEFORE you arrive. The closest grocery store is about 40 minutes away. Grocery store is in Baddeck. Once you have all your provisions, it's a dream! Thank you Mark!!

Beautiful views

Remote location but great if you want to be away from the madding crowd. House was as advertised and would have been perfect if it had a king bed in master Long way to drive to a restaurant, made even longer because ferry was not running.

Great home

Beautiful view from the dinning table. The ferry was down so we had to take the longer route. It's a bit off the trail so of you are short on days something to consider. Very comfortable home.

Great location but poor communications

The property is in good condition, particularly the upper floor, which has been updated recently . It looks out over St Anne’s Bay with the Englishtown ferry directly viewed from the large windows . Access to the Cabot trail is just a short drive down an unpaved road . Unfortunately, although the property is good, I have to say that I was very surprised by the sometimes abrupt communications from the owner , particularly in relation to internet access . Apparently , rural internet is expensive, a fact that was mentioned to us on many many many occassions , both in the check in details that were supplied upon paying the damage deposit and in several texts and emails . Honestly, I felt like I was about to visit a prison and the communications were extremely directive and rules based . Apparently some previous renters had possibly abused the supplied internet, according to the owner and he has now instituted a 1GB per day cap . Anything over that would incur a ten dollars per GB charge . So be it, but there was no mention of this when booking , which is false advertising . There were also no options available . I always travel with a cellphone data package as do my other Family members . I even bring along an international Mi-Fi when I travel, so if we want internet , we have it . Thus, after getting a bit upset with the constant messages about internet usage before I had even arrived, I suggested to the owner that I would switch off the router . Case over, you might imagine. There would be no way for my family to rack up even a kilobyte . Upon that suggestion I received a very abrupt message that I should not turn off the Router as ‘ it is too hard to re- configure ‘ . Hmmmm.... wonder what happens when a storm knocks out power ... It must be very frustrating for the owner to have to reconfigure the router each and every time but I digress. So, we left the router on, enjoyed the tranquility and when we needed internet to investigate local attractions or stay in touch with work and family, we all used our cell and mi- fi packages without issue . Oh, and apparently cellphone coverage is difficult according to the owner . I can only say that we never , ever had an issue. Although the internet issue is my main complaint, don’t expect a fantastic check in and check out process either . In fact, you are left to your own devices on this property .

Perfect Perch for experiencing Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail

We had a wonderful visit to Cape Breton largely due to the excellent accommodations and information provided by the owner. The views from the cottage were beautiful. The location was easy enough to get to, yet we often felt as if we were on our own private resort. The facilities were top notch, including recently updated kitchen and AC. Bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The owner also provided a trove of information on local dining and attractions. We could not imagine a better setting from which to experience the natural beauty of Cape Breton and the warmth and hospitality of its people.

Great view

The property was very acceptable for what we were seeking. The only problem was getting the recycling correct with the multiple steps. The cost for use of wifi was not good for maintaining communication with others or researching opportunities in the area.

Is a beautiful view of St. Ann's Bay

The place had a beautiful view and was equipped for 5 but not 5 adults. The single beds were more appropriate for children. The downstairs shower was small, but did the job. The detail for trash recycling required alot of concentration. The other bedroom and loft bedroom, sitting area was a plus. The house is a definite plus for those who like to do VRBO. It was a good place to relax and unwind and near Cape Breton activities.

Mark and Cynthia are your hosts. We are from the US midwest and love this area. Mark first started coming to Cape Breton around 2005.

Why they chose this property

Because we love Cape Breton and love this particular part of Cape Breton. The Gaelic College is nearby as is Baddeck. There are good restaurants and good music.

What makes this property unique

Great location at the beginning of the Cabot Trail and yet convenient to cultural opportunities and talented artists
