The property was very close to the lake, we only wish we had had better weather, so we could have enjoyed the lake a bit more, but we still had a very nice stay.
Absolutely wonderful! Super quiet getaway directly on Long Lake. Lovely cottage with all amenities, very comfortable , beautiful views, excellent host! Alpena 10 mins by car, restaurants also. Perfect for a Autumn vacation.

Perfect guests, for the best time viewing fall colors on Long Lake. Edge of Brothers Bay.
The property is great! The cottage is absolutely adorable, the decor is perfect. The location is really good too, not just on the lake itself, but also in relation to getting to town or stores or restaurants.
The host was very friendly and informative. We picked this unit because of the waterfront view. It was quiet and very relaxing. We enjoyed our overall experience.

Great guests always welcome to relax on Long Lake.
The property itself was great! Clean and the beds were comfortable. The owner of the property, while he was friendly, he was a little creepy. He consistently was at the house, like everytime we went outside he was there and was very intrusive on our stay. Thankfully we had a lot of activities planned so we basically just slept there but he definitely made us feel uncomfortable.

Owner lives next door 24/7. Owner gives renters privilege of ingress and egress across HIS private gated driveway plus HIS backyard to park vehicles. Parking space is tight in fall when boat lifts, docks & boats are on shore for winter storage. Rental cottage lot size and home is small. With space to drive around front at lakeside. Owner was disappointed but not surprised finding a pile unburned over size wood or to big to burn in fire pit and left behind on ground plus an old blue tarp to remove. Wood needs proper splitting and drying first to burn! otherwise it will not! Owner does not need or want someones unburnable unusable wood in front yard! plus in the pit. You brought it! you can take it back with your luggage. Yes, Website states bring your own! However, if it is a hassmate material, like chemically pressure treated or has nails from scrap construction materal. please inform owner first regarding starting a fire. Some guest do open fire cooking. Guest are not to burn; including example plastic bottles or personal trash. Our neighbors plus owner does not need to listen to loud vulgar derogatory verbal outbursts late at night at or about any other individual personal relationship!

Next day the
owner was doing another inspection of a possible power loss issue. After placing a mop and hot water bucket at kitchen door to clean sticky pine needles off deck that A.M. during check out time. Was also looking at the power company property & powerlines the tree limbs from HIS driveway or HIS backyard. New pics were required and taken of situation after more leaves exposed a possible power loss or a pole fire at the triple or multi connection for 3 buildings. Getting a better updated pics again for power company crew. Only now, that fallen leaves exposed a better clear view for the lineman to cut and remove, they were still behind schedule. Removing and repairing from 12 county 3 day power outage ice strom in spring. They also responded thanking me for better pics. I had told that 3rd person with no last name I was taking detailed new pictures for the power company again. All guests were informed of the possible bucket truck in backyard blocking entrance. And where not to walk. Plus the boat storage guys coming & removing boats from water with the trailer. Also, generally, all renters always take time to do a walk around both indoors and outdoors with owner and or cleaning person upon departure for damages. But not this time! I was waiting to do so on their time. If item is broken a proper claim can be submitted on time with VRBO site. Then all parties have been informed at same time. To explain and as a review. This means no refund for damage fee for guest! Now, when a reservation is made by one individual in behalf for another person the second person the whom is now the "guest". Someone should include the full name of the 3rd person that was included or invited when occuping the premises. The owner made a simple request, never ask for physical identifcation, street address, city or proof or cell # or email. Primarily to document for insurance purpose. This was first and only time ever in 17 years the owners simple request denied. Unfortunatly, but now necessary. A new updated guest rules for proper check in/out policy. Plus, the fire pit & proper usage including lid. Safe burning times. Also, guest need to ask for DNR burn band update. When dry weather condition or windy it's always a NO burn. Still don't understand upon arrival owner explained that he provided in a bright red colored 5 gallon pale or bucket filled with water to the top and a pot with handle to extinguish fires or coals was not used. Someone was using the fish bait galvanized pale left out in the yard? So, again owner disapointed that he was not wanted or allowed to use HIS own backyard/driveway to walk on because he did not want to be seen on the premises.

Liked: Check-in, communication, listing accuracy
I was in town just for one night when I came across this listing. It’s a simple two-bedroom fishing cottage right on the water, which could be ideal for anyone looking to spend their time fishing or being out on the water. The place is a little older and dated, and while I felt it could use a deeper clean, I can see this being a good fit for a small group with fishing as the main priority. Also, while there are plenty of ceiling fans, there is no AC, which could be an issue on hotter days.

Correction, there is an air condioning unit & dehumidifer devices. However, both are portable on wheeles. Outside walls have closed cell spray foam insulation, plus atttic space R60 insulation. Slate floor insulated and heated with radiant heating system. 5 over sized 5 blade 3 speed bi-directional ceilng fans, Anderson double pain UV windows. Now, that creates both a cool living space in summer. Then in fall & winter months a comfortable heated living space. Also, all interior walls have Georgia-Pacific Densite gypsum wall boards. Thid product
achieves the highest rating for mold resistance. Then local custom saw mill white cedar & aspen tongue & groove end matched wood interior.
Very peaceful location and accessible to town. It was slightly a distance from my workplace the first week but perfect on the second week since we changed location. Mr. Freddy is a great host and is always available to help. I missed the cottage the first two days but he guided me back to the right path. I’m very thankful for this safe, quiet accommodation. I wish I could have enjoyed the surroundings more but I was too busy with work so it’s nice to come back into a peaceful space at the end of a long day.
