Private log cabin with view overlooking Grand Lake
This is a quaint one bedroom log cabin nestled on the edge of hardwoods. It sits on a knoll overlooking Grand Lake with its own campfire (wood available for purchase at nearby locations). A dock provides access to the lake for boating. Kayaks and a paddle board are available to use. Swimming is available at nearby beaches, hiking trails are close, and the Presque Isle Lighthouse and Harbor are just a few miles away to have an evening pier walk. Monthly discount available.
You will enter the property off Whiskey Point Rd and follow a beautiful meandering driveway through hardwoods. The cabin shares space with our primary residence on the property. The cabin is located on top of the knoll, with the house 75 yards further down the hill. Pine trees and a fountain are located between the cabin and our house, creating for a quiet private setting. Parking is located next to the cabin across the driveway and has a sidewalk to access it. The private dock, to be used for boating purposes only, is located 100 yards away from the cabin. This is the only cabin on the property.
Our main residence is on this property, so we will be available if you have any questions, but otherwise, you will have your space all to yourself. The door will be unlocked, so you can self check-in when you arrive.
This location is a quaint area with many nearby activities. As far as restaurants, there is the Fireside Inn a half mile down the road that serves breakfast and dinner. It's nice to walk there in the evening to enjoy a lakeside meal. There is the Hideaway Bar and Grill 7 miles away; the town of Alpena is 15 miles south and the town of Rogers City is about 20 miles north. There is also the small town of Presque Isle 3 miles away that has a park, tennis court, basketball court, library, small grocery store, and a place to order pizza. On the north end of Grand Lake, there is the wonderful modern restaurant "Woody's" overlooking Grand Lake. About 6 miles away is the Presque Isle Harbor with two historic Lighthouses, an ice cream shop, charter boats to reserve for big lake fishing (recommendations available), and a harbor with a pier to walk out on. It's nice for an evening stroll to walk along the harbor docks to see the boats from all over the Midwest. As far as nearby activities, there are hiking trails for bird watching and observing rare wild flowers in the area. We will have a binder in the cabin with areas of interest for you to check out. We will also be available to help you navigate the area and answer questions on what is available to do. There is the NOAA center in Alpena on the Thunder Bay River that has a great display of boating history of the Great Lakes as well as a glass bottom boat cruise that you can take out on Lake Huron to view shipwrecks. There are also great biking trails, both in Alpena as well as Rogers City. There's lighthouses, beaches, and waterfalls to explore in the surrounding area as well. If you want to take in a day at Mackinac Island while you're here, the ferry dock is just over an hour away and offers a wonderful day excursion.

The cabin and the grounds were very nice! Everything we could ever need during our stay was already provided. Had some rain for part of our stay, but were able to enjoy a fire in the nice fire pit. The Besser Bell Natural Area was right down the road, and is an excellent location for a walk or to enjoy the beach.
If we get the opportunity we'll definitely be back!

So glad you enjoyed your time at the Embers cabin. It’s a special place and it’s our pleasure to share it with others.
A returning guest to the Embers Cabin and it did not disappoint. Nice binders filled with information about the area provided by owner. Bed super comfy. All amenities were accurate with online property description. Clean, tidy and peaceful! It was great to unplug and unwind here. Also as a solo traveler, I felt very safe at this location. 10/10 recommend.

Enjoyed the area very much
It wasn’t horrible. We don’t mind small since most of our time is spent exploring. Just wasn’t what we typically experience booking through Vrbo. Had to ask how to check in, where to park. Normally there is a welcome of some sort waiting at the rental, and normally the host will check in a couple days in to see if everything is going ok. We did often hear their dog barking and we are normally animal lovers but chose the cabin because it was more secluded. The most concerning thing was how uncomfortable the small bed was, we understood the small size given the small cabin…but the bed was like sleeping on boards. Towels should also be comfy & not appear old…like I said it wasn’t horrible, we made due. Just not what we are used to and would likely not stay again. I am not sure if they are new to hosting or not, hopefully they take from this review suggestions for improving the next person’s stay. A comfortable bed is a must have!

Thank you for your feedback. We are so sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. If you read through the information provided with VRBO, all of the information with self check-in is spelled out there, as is an accurate description of the cabin. The queen sized bed has also received praise from many of our customers. Reading thoroughly through all of the reviews from other guests who have stayed at the cabin would certainly help alleviate many concerns.
Location is wonderful on Presque Isle - as the owner states, there are several options for food in the area, and plenty to do outdoors - lighthouses, trails, bicycle trails, boating. The secluded and shady location of the cabin makes it nice for just staying in and reading or relaxing. The cabin is generously stocked with dozens of books and several board games.
If you are planning on or hoping to watch tv, there is no antenna and no cable, so no channels come in. Internet is described as being available but did not work at all during our stay. Cellphone reception is decent.
The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cooking items, as well as several little things like coffee filters, paper plates, salt, sugar, etc. The bathroom also had a medium sized basket full of trial size soap, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste.
Be aware that the bathroom is quite small, as this is a cabin, so if you are a larger person or perhaps have some mobility issues, this may not be the best situation for you. There is a stand up shower; no bathtub.
The air quality and cleanliness of the cabin is wonderful: 100% perfect.
There is no air conditioning, but there are several windows with screens throughout the cabin that make for an excellent cross breeze.
The fire pit is a lot of fun. There is a house just about 1/4 mile down the road that sells a large size bundle of firewood for $5.
Overall, a great place to stay in Northern Michigan that is a great value and close to attractions.
The cabin was quaint and a perfect place to rest after a day of exploring Alpena and it’s parks. Everything was as described. I particularly enjoyed the level of detail provided for local foods, attractions, parks, etc.
Stayed here exactly 10 Summers ago. Every bit as lovely as remembered: Snug, Private and very well located! The owners were swell and honestly, given how tucked in the cabin is, provided a level discrete security. We'll be back again.
Cabin awesome, Location great for what we wanted to do. And relaxing .
We had a very good time doing everything we wanted to do, including seeing family that lives fairly close. And visiting the local lighthouses.
Thank you for accommodating us.
My husband and Ioved this property. The cabin is well appointed and well cared for. The location is beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. Access to kayaks and a fire pit made our stay exceptional.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
What a delightful, peaceful, and relaxing time we had at the Embers Cabin. The owners, Jen and Dave, were incredibly lovely, helpful, and friendly….just good people, you know! Check in was a breeze and there were several binders available to us that were packed with information on the area. So very helpful!!!! At check in, Jen gave us some great ideas of places to visit right in Presque Isle and she knocked it out of the park because those were some of our favorite day trips! We loved the decor, supplies, and coziness of the cabin and look forward to booking more trips in the future to the sweetest cabin in the woods!

This place is a cozy , quite and relaxing place to stay. We had a view of Grand Lake from up on the hill sitting on the deck. The owners that live down the hill on the property are really nice and helpful. The cabin had everything we needed and we slept well.
The location is close enough to visit the nearby lighthouses, trails and not to far from Alpena.
We would definitely come back.
We really enjoyed our stay. The setting was really relaxing, clean and had everything we needed. Communication was smooth and simple. We would highly recommend!
The Presque isle area is gorgeous. Lots of outdoor things to do. Gorgeous hiking, kayaking and biking. We enjoyed alpena and roger city as well. Found some off the beaten path nature preserves for some less busy hikes and kayaks. The shallow shipwrecks are also worth kayaking. I wish the bed had been a supportive one, it’s very, very soft. The couch is also a sink into plush. The cabin comes with sheets and towels so less to pack. There isn’t AC but the windows open and there are fans. Be prepared for nature to come in since the screens don’t totally close on the frames! The fire pit outside is nice, however not private. The cabin sits off the back side of the main property, so it’s almost like being in a kids play cabin in the back yard lol! We personally prefer more privacy but for the few days we were there it was fine.
We had an absolutely wonderful time relaxing at the Embers Cabin. Dave & Jen are great hosts, so friendly, and it was fun to get to know them a bit and share stories. The cabin is as described and well outfitted with all you need and more. We were able to relax, read, enjoy the peaceful and quiet surroundings in addition to exploring the area. The Presque Isle region is the nearest resemblance in Michigan that we have found to our old home in northern Minnesota. It isn't the busy, touristy buzz of NW Michigan. Hiking and enjoying the Lake Huron shoreline, history, lighthouses, bird life and wildflowers was wonderful. Grand Lake didn't cooperate for kayaking or fishing due to a stiff NNW wind while we were there, but that gives us a good reason to return. The Embers Cabin is great for a couple to get away and spend time together.
My husband and I stayed here for a short honeymoon and loved it! It was clean and cozy. Great place to feel like you’re home without feeling like you’re in someone else’s home. Loved the games, movies, and puzzles as well!

About the host
Hosted by Jen Myers
We love hiking and enjoying nature and have personally tried out many of the trails in the area as well as visited the points of interest in this area. We have lived here for the past 30 years and love this community and what it offers for beauty and adventure. One of our favorite things about all of our travels over the years is meeting all of the different people. This is what drew us to purchase this property with the rental cabin on it - we thought, "wouldn't it be fun to be host to a couple visiting our area and meet them and share all of the wonderful activities to do in our area?"
Why they chose this property
We purchased this property because we loved the secluded feeling to it and it's nice being on the protected waters of Kauffman Bay. We loved the feel of community with the local restaurants, beaches and trails in the area. It's nice that it's a short 20 minute drive in to the nearest town that has more things to do.
What makes this property unique
The windy wooded drive in to this property definitely caught my eye the first time we drove into the driveway and then when it opened into the breathtaking view of the bay and birch trees as far as the eye can see, I was sold! I love the 8 foot high Italian fountain that gives off a relaxing water sound day and night and I appreciate how close all of the walking trails and beaches are. Here's how I imagine the perfect day here: wake up and enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch overlooking the lake and then taking a stroll through the paths in the woods listening to the birds and looking for wildlife. Then, taking a kayak ride out on Kauffman Bay and try to get a peek at our local loons. Lunch could be packed and bike down to Besser Bell to enjoy a picnic on the beautiful shore of Lake Huron while you listen to the waves rush in. An afternoon hike at nearby Thompson Trail looking for rare wildflowers or a snorkel over one of our shipwrecks in the area would fill the middle of the day. Then either a dinner grilled back at the cabin capped off with an evening campfire or if you didn't feel like cooking, you could walk/drive down to The Fireside Inn and enjoy a nostalgic family style dinner in the pine log lodge followed by a cup of coffee on their deck watching the sun go down over Grand Lake.
