About this property

Northern Michigan Hideaway

Update: We stopped renting our home out during the pandemic, and had to do extensive repairs after being hit by a terrible hail storm in 2023. However, we are happy to say that we are back on the market and hope you enjoy your stay in Presque Isle, MI.

Our vacation home is located in a quiet area of Northeastern Michigan in the Presque Isle Harbor Association. The close proximity to refreshing Lake Huron, historic Presque Isle lighthouses and beautiful Michigan State Parks make this home a true getaway. The home is nicely decorated, has a furnace but no air conditioning, and plenty of parking.

This salt-box style house has three bedrooms, one is on the main floor, the other two are upstairs. Two bedrooms have queen beds and one a full-size bed. There is a newly remodeled kitchen, dining area and living room with sofa and loveseat. There is a nice deck off the back of the house with outdoor seating, wood fireplace, two bathrooms and a laundry room. We also added a propane grill on the deck in 2018.

The Presque Isle Harbor, Grand Lake and Long Lake marinas and boat launches allow access to a wide variety of water related activities. The home is also about 30 minutes from Alpena or Rogers City, which provides access to all modern amenities, shopping, museums, historic sites and state parks. This side of the state has dedicated light free zones at night and is fantastic for star gazing and exploring natural state parks.

The home is also an hour and a half from Mackinac Island, is very close to the Presque Isle Wooden Boat Show in the summer and other exciting northern Michigan activities. There is no TV or cellular service available at this home. However, we have recently added Starlink wifi. A ten minute walk or five minute drive to the marina might give you access to cell service, and a general store or restaurant during the summer season.

The home features hair dryers, some board games, puzzles and most kitchen accessories (like a coffee pot). The views are fairly secluded; and you're likely to see small wildlife like birds, squirrels and rabbits, and occasionally deer and other animals. The area is very quiet in the evening, and is fantastic for bicycle riding, walking and all outdoor activities.

*Please note many businesses are closed in the winter, and guests are not allowed access to the Association Clubhouse, Association Recreation areas or amenities.

Lovely home in sleepy Presque Isle
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely, nicely decorated home that’s just a short bike ride away from the Presque Isle, MI harbor marina. It’s a nice spot to get away from the noise. There is no tv or cellphone reception, but there is wi-fi internet reception. Lovely deck to read a book. Had a great bike ride from Rogers City north to Hoeft State Park and back. Communication with the owner was wonderful. Hopefully we will be back:)

Peaceful Getaway
This property is accurately represented in the listing. It is a clean, quiet house in a beautiful area. Plenty of space and adequate provisions. The only negative thing I have to say is that there is no cell or internet service which made communicating with other members of our party and our dog sitter at home with our sick dog very difficult. If you’re looking for a place to relax and unplug, this is it.

Presque Isle Cottage
Beautiful area. Nice cottage for a getting away from it all. Took a day to get used to no cell service at cottage - Only a short walk or drive to find it - but once I adjusted and the people at home understood. It was perfect.

About the host

We grew up in Southeast Michigan and always wanted a cabin 'up-north' in Michigan. Even though we now live out of state, we are happy to have this little place to enjoy the beautiful Michigan summers with family and friends.

Why they chose this property

We chose this property because it is close to the water, fairly secluded, but within an hour of everything we need. It also reminds us of what 'Up-North' was like as kids.

What makes this property unique

The interior has a nautical 'cabin' feel with many updated furnishings and comfortable linens. This is definitely the more undeveloped side of the state, giving guests a more natural and rustic experience with the luxury of a comfortable place to come home to. Its very quiet here despite being in an active neighborhood.
