About this property

Historic Highlands 2BR — Private Patio, Game Room, Walk to Baxter

Summary

Looking to be steps from the fun of Louisville? Look no further. This spacious two-bedroom apartment in a historic Baxter Avenue building has everything your group or family needs. You’ll find a beautifully styled space with a main-floor bedroom featuring a comfortable king bed, and an upstairs bedroom with two cozy memory-foam queens plus a game room. Step out to your private patio off the kitchen for morning coffee, then head out to the restaurants, bars, and coffee shops that make this stretch of the Highlands one of Louisville’s best. Book your stay with us today!

The Space

This two-story, two-bedroom, one-bath apartment sits on the second floor of a historic Baxter Avenue building and sleeps up to six. The main level has a compact, well-equipped kitchen with a private patio right off it, a living room, and the king bedroom. A staircase leads up to the converted attic level, where you’ll find two memory-foam queen beds with games a great setup for kids, friends, or anyone who wants their own space.

The patio is a genuine perk in this neighborhood: your own outdoor spot for coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening, just off the kitchen and steps from everything Baxter Avenue has going on.

Staying in? Stream your favorite shows on Hulu, Disney+, or ESPN. Heading out? Some of Louisville’s best restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops are a short walk away in the heart of the Highlands.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the entire two-story apartment and the private patio off the kitchen.

The Neighborhood

Baxter Avenue is one of Louisville’s liveliest stretches, and you’re right in the middle of it. Long-standing Irish pubs, local restaurants, craft cocktail bars, and excellent coffee are all within a few minutes’ walk. Cave Hill Cemetery’s beautiful grounds are nearby for a quiet morning stroll, and downtown and NuLu are both a short drive. If you want to be where the energy is, this is the block.

Getting Around

Plenty is walkable from the door. To explore beyond the Highlands, driving or a rideshare is easiest — Uber and Lyft are readily available in the area, and the bus line runs along Baxter.

Good to Know — Please Read Before Booking

This is a historic building, and part of its charm comes with some quirks we want you to know about upfront:

Stairs. The apartment is on the second floor with no elevator in the building, so you’ll use stairs to get in. Inside, a second staircase leads up to the attic-level bedroom. That interior staircase can feel like narrow and steep, typical of the era, and may be difficult for guests with mobility concerns or for carrying luggage.

Low ceiling upstairs. The upstairs bedroom is a converted attic space with a low, sloped ceiling. It’s comfortable and cozy, but taller guests should expect to duck in places.

Compact kitchen. The kitchen is on the smaller side, as is typical in a building of this age. It’s fully equipped for cooking, but counter space is limited if you’re planning elaborate meals.

Sound. You may occasionally hear birds nesting in the eaves — completely harmless, just part of an old building, but we want you to expect it rather than be startled. And because you’re steps from Baxter Avenue’s bars and restaurants, weekend nights can be lively until the bars close around 2–3 AM. We provide a white noise machine, and it makes a real difference but if total quiet is essential to your trip, this may not be the right fit.

Off-street parking is available in a gravel pad behind the building. This is a non-smoking property, and we aren’t able to accommodate pets, though service animals are always welcome.

Interaction with Guests

I like to give guests their space, but I’m always just a call or message away and happy to help.

Great place to stay. Very cool vibe from the neighborhood. Great pub to eat at right next door, and many other pub/ restaurants in walking distance. Also a Walgreens, Insomnia Cookies and to-go BWW. The rooms were very clean. Nice patio/deck to relax on. Two women travelers and never felt unsafe at all. Free parking behind rental through the alley. The host was friendly and very good communication. Will stay again on my next visit to Louisville.

Good location and easy to Bardstown area. Good for people who walk around. Apartment was affordable and nice. It is on the 2nd and 3rd floor, so if you bring a lot of things it can be tough going up and down stairs. Unit was equipped well except theres no dishwasher. We enjoyed the stay and the host was very responsive.

Our host was very responsive to all questions and texts. So many Irish pubs, restaurants, coffee shops the choices were endless. All the food we sampled was excellent. On Friday and Saturday nights it was a little noisy… so if you’re looking for quiet and solitude on the weekend could be a difficult choice. The house was immaculate, check in and out was easy. If you need a handicap access or are old and have trouble climbing stairs this may not be your choice. Overall it was a good experience for us.

We loved the historic building and walkability but don’t consider this property to be super family friendly. We stayed on a Friday night and were unable to get sleep due to the constant flow of motorcycles and cars with bass heavy stereo systems rattling the entire home until 2 to 3 am in the morning. Until around 1 am the noise was constant. Pigeons and morning traffic started early so sleeping in wasn’t an option either. The home itself is clean and has most everything needed to enjoy a stay there. We found an amazing restaurant called Ramsi’s down the street and enjoyed seeing Ali’s Bees at the Cave Hill Cemetery across the street.

Classic Louisville apartment. Beware. The location is great but it’s super noisy with traffic and bars are open until 4. I had to get earplugs. Also parking is tricky if you have more than one vehicle.

About the host

Hosted by Rineeth Challagundla

Host profile image
Hi there! I’m Rineeth, your host. I’m an Ohio native and have spent the last three years hosting in the Louisville area — it’s a city I’ve come to genuinely love, and one of my favorite parts of hosting is pointing guests toward the places that make it worth visiting. In my free time you’ll find me at the gym, out on a hiking trail, traveling somewhere new, or tracking down a restaurant I haven’t tried yet. I care about the details: a bed you actually sleep well in, a kitchen that’s truly stocked, and a space that feels considered rather than generic. I like to give guests their space, but I’m always just a message away if you need anything at all. Looking forward to hosting you!

Why they chose this property

Baxter Avenue is where Louisville comes to life. You step outside and there’s a whole block of Irish pubs, restaurants, craft cocktail bars, and coffee shops within a few minutes’ walk — the kind of stretch where you don’t need a plan, you just walk out the door. The Highlands has real character: historic buildings, an independent streak, and a mix of people that feels like the actual city rather than a version of it built for visitors. Cave Hill Cemetery is nearby for a quiet walk, downtown is a short drive, and Bardstown Road picks up where Baxter leaves off. I chose this building because it puts you at the center of that energy while giving you a full two-story apartment to retreat into.

What makes this property unique

Very few Highlands rentals give you a full two-story apartment with a game room and a private patio. The layout means a group of six actually spreads out — the king bedroom, living space, kitchen, and patio on the main floor, then upstairs a separate retreat with two queen beds and lounge space with games. It’s a genuinely good setup for families with kids, or two couples who want some separation. The building itself is historic, with the character that comes with it: original details, real bones, a place with a story. Add streaming on the TVs with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN, off-street parking behind the building, and the entire Baxter Avenue food and bar scene a few minutes on foot, and it’s a hard combination to find in this neighborhood.
