This house is beautiful and roomy. The owner decorated it beautifully and you could tell he put a lot of thought process in the decor and labeled things to help with our stay. It has a great location to downtown, within walking distance if you chose to do so. My friends and I loved it. We would stay here again.
We had our annual MomCo retreat at this house. It was a calm, serene getaway for 7 moms who never take time for themselves. Plenty of space, close to downtown, and a great atmosphere.
We stayed on the property almost the whole weekend because it was so spacious! However when we did go out for dinner we were able to walk to a number of different restaurants!! The beach was less than a mile away so also very walkable. The host takes such pride in the house and we will definitely be visiting again!!
This house is lovely! So well appointed, but the first floor bedroom should have a king bed. Otherwise, we had everything we needed. The location is great for walking to town. We stayed during the week to avoid the crowds, but the drawback is that we had difficulty finding an open restaurant Tuesday and Wednesday, and by Thursday the, weekend crowd converges and every place is super busy. Otherwise, we had a great time!
This was a great house to stay in. We had intended to have 4 households on a family vacation but only 2 family groups could make it. There was so much space, it would have been fantastic with all four groups, one per bedroom. It was such a short walk to downtown, like 3 blocks, and a bit longer to South Beach. We walked to the end of the pier from the house every evening to see the sunset, so if you like to walk, it's doable. All kitchen amenities were there. Loved the grill, very easy to use after reading directions. Very clean place upon arrival. Only thing is the bathroom showers didn't have soap or shampoo, which I've just come to expect while traveling, but this is my first time in a VRBO. Not a problem, just different. Couches were very comfortable. I have a 15 month old and there were toys in both the living room and the large bedroom for him to play with. It was a pleasant surprise since that wasn't in the description or pictures. I also recommend taking new pictures for the listing since some of them on the listing are blurry and it made me worried about what we were actually getting, and I was delighted they the house turned out not sketchy at all, but very welcoming, clean and nothing weird. I will note it's on an alley driveway and is a corner lot with no backyard which at first concerned me when I arrived, but it was totally fine and we never had any issues at all with the alley. The house faces a busy main road, but that's bc it's so close to downtown.
Property was as described and very clean. The host was responsive to our messages. The location is fantastic due to its proximity to downtown. We had a great stay!
If you’re visiting South Haven, stay here! The location is walkable to just about everything. House has great space. Can’t say enough about the host. Very responsive. Would stay here again if we’re back in this area.
This was our second stay and we once again loved it. There’s plenty of space for 2 families. The house is in walking distance to downtown where the parade and fireworks were. We love South Haven so much and can’t wait to go back!
The property was as advertised though we were surprised by the large size of the rooms. This gave everyone in our group amble space to spread out. We appreciated that it was close to everything and we could walk to town, the beach, and bike over to start the Kal-Haven trail. Richard was great with communication. We greatly enjoyed our stay!
Everything was perfect. I love how they had extra stuff for you like trash bags, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and dishwasher pods. We were only there for two days, so it was so nice not to have to go to the grocery store for all of that stuff.
House was exactly what we needed. The pictures do not do this house justice. It is much bigger then any of the pictures showed. Perfect location for walking distance to the downtown area.

About the host
Hosted by Richard Riggs
I grew up in Southeast Michigan near Ann Arbor and went to school at Michigan State. After a number of years away I returned to live in my family home, an 1873 farmhouse where my great grandfather cleared the land. I have enjoyed the updates and remodeling that comes with the vintage of the house, but mostly appreciate the park-like setting in the area.
Why they chose this property
I have enjoyed many trips to the Lake Michigan beaches and enjoyed the serenity of the water, dunes and breezes. The ability to observe the sunsets over the water with feet in the sand and to hear waves come ashore is an especially relaxing moment. To do so in an area which is notable for blueberries and close to other great shore communities a short drive away was particularly appealing to me. I hope you will come to appreciate this environment, as well! There are seasonal events and activities to enjoy from festivals for film and blueberry lovers, as well as year-round benefits of hiking and biking.
What makes this property unique
The proximity to the beach and lighthouse was an attraction to the area, and this house offered a great open floor-plan which will allow people to stay engaged and appreciate time together. A bicycle store is around the corner if you wish to rent bikes for a trip around town or down the Kal Haven trail. There are unique shops in South Haven and a short drive takes you to the Saugatuck community for even more shopping with a creative, artistic emphasis.
