Whimsical and unique home!
Our group loved this place the second we walked in the door. It is so funky and fun, as well as huge! It is much larger than it looks in the pictures.
Paul was very accommodating and was always there to answer our questions!
We really enjoyed our stay here - the house has lots of character and charm, and is surrounded by forest - great birdwatching and we even saw a porcupine climbing a tree!
Convenient for Hudson, Catskill, Athens - lots of nice places to eat and visit (try Gracie's or, a little further afield, Local 111 for something a little different if you are a foodie!).
Paul was a super responsive host.
Owner was responsive and house was pleasant. Unfortunately, ticks attacked dog and we had to leave.

As this is a country house, when dogs are outside on the property, it is not uncommon for dogs to get a tick. Hopefully most dogs are on some kind of tick repellant for country outings.
When I first came across the listing I thought it was a prank: it looks like a doll house. I looked hard trying to find items that looked “wrong”. But everything looked right. And it was indeed perfectly “right”. Cute colors, lots of comfortable beds. Mounds of linens and towels. Big living room with a stand alone furnace and newly upholstered old furniture. Paul provided coffee, soft drinks, assorted snacks. Fresh cut flowers. We had a great time. Thank you Paul. We didn’t meet in person but you are a very gracious host.
This place is truly special and the more time you spend here the more character that is revealed. The property is lovely, Paul is very friendly and the bird feeders mean we are constantly serenaded by nature. Easily 5 stars !

Born and raised in Midwest from a large family and currently live in NYC and Catskill, NY. I have run a non profit theatre company for the last 28 years and have my own apt cleaning business. I wrote and performed a one man show about apt cleaning last year in the NY Fringe Festival. I recently completed a new musical play about Doris Day called Doris Day: My Secret Love which I am seeking women producers to bring it to Broadway.
Why they chose this property
I bought this home in 1999 as an escape from the city. I wanted a place that was quiet and somewhat secluded, but also a short drive to civilization. And I have always had an affinity for fun vintage and retro furnishings. Many of the beds and dressers came with the house. A few years back when I was putting up ceiling fans in the bedrooms, I decided to see what was under the old sheet rock. I discovered the original wood siding that covered the ceilings and walls and exposed it. It is a house that to me is an inviting and relaxing place to come and revive and just one night's sleep is rejuvenating. And a nice sit on the porch with the view of the surround of trees and the chatter of birds can act as a stress reliever. I also have a fenced in 5000 square foot organic vegetable garden with 50 beds.
What makes this property unique
The reason I bought this house was when I walked out on the porch and saw the lovely arc of trees that enclose the property. And the essence of quiet that permeates the house if no one speaks. And on chilly nights, sitting and watching the fire crackle and glow provides an entertainment unmatched by any tv. And who doesn't prefer waking to the sound of birds instead of traffic.
