The century homes in Mesopotamia are special to all the locals as they love our history and preserving it. Many of the locals have sat on our front porch in the past while enjoying the day. The home holds many memories, and we can't wait to share our little town with you. If you are an early bird you'll see the hustle and bustle of mornings as everyone is getting ready to be off to work. Then later again as people start to arrive home in the early afternoon. The evenings can be quiet or you may hear the clip clop of the horse and buggies going by. Wake up in the morning to a nearby puppy barking at the free range chickens and the crow of the rooster.

This is a very nice, spacious, clean and comfortable lodging. Cinnamon rolls - delicious. Bed - very comfortable. Lots of nice touches to make the stay comfortable. We love the ease of checking in and out. It is very close to our daughter and son-in-law’s flower farm - Muse Gardens. We will definitely stay here again!

Horse and Harness BnB was just perfect. The first floor of this antique house is spacious. The kitchen is convenient. A coffee bar is good. Fresh cinnamon buns-habit forming. Comfortable queen bed. Smart TV. BIG bathroom with an old “ball and claw” tub like grandma had. So much to enjoy.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Horse and Harness right after Christmas. The house was tidy and cozy and decorated with festive Christmas lights. Our 6 year old son especially enjoyed the old fashioned tub in the spacious bathroom. The prime location right next door to our favorite general store and the friendly goats was perfect. We walked over to The End of the Commons general store for most meals and Amish goodies. The owner even brought us two sleds to use since it snowed during our visit! The hill down from the cemetery was perfect and so much fun! This has been our favorite place to stay in Amish country so far. Everything was so picturesque and inviting, like something out of a Hallmark movie. We will definitely be back!

I’m Crys, and I love welcoming guests to our cozy corner of rural Ohio. Hosting is more than just providing a place to stay, it’s about sharing the history, charm, and community that make this area special. I take pride in keeping my space clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully decorated, so you can relax and feel right at home. Whether you’re here for a peaceful getaway, to explore Amish country, or to step back in time at the oldest general store in Ohio, I’m happy to help with local tips and personal touches that make your stay memorable.

Why they chose this property

Mesopotamia, Ohio is a charming township located in the northwestern corner of Trumbull County, with a population of 3,404 people as of the 2020 census. Named after the ancient region of Mesopotamia, it is the only township with this name in Ohio. The village’s historic district, known as “the Commons,” is particularly notable for its 28 buildings, with 21 constructed before the Civil War, earning it a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Mesopotamia is home to part of one of Ohio’s largest Amish settlements and features the End of the Commons General Store, established in 1840 and recognized as Ohio’s oldest continuously operating general store. This historic store offers visitors a glimpse into 19th-century rural life, selling everything from penny candy to handmade Amish fry pies, while the surrounding area provides an authentic experience of Amish culture with horse-drawn buggies and scenic countryside just 40 minutes east of Cleveland.

What makes this property unique

This picturesque village, rich in history and small-town hospitality, is a gateway to a wider world of discovery. From scenic countryside drives to immersive cultural experiences with our Amish neighbors, Mesopotamia offers more than just a visit, it offers a true escape. Visit small businesses’ owned by our locals and places nearby. Service will be personable and some historic. There will also be a list of Amish backroad adventures with produce stands, businesses, and greenhouses available in our guidebook when you arrive to our home.
