Property review

We stayed at this property for a couple of weesk and overall, we were very pleased with out stay. The apartment was clean and well-equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The host was very helpful and responsive to any requests. The location was also perfect, situated in a semi-quiet area but still close to restaurants and shops. We had a great time and would recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable accommodation in this area.

A Fabulous Week!

My husband and I and another couple spent a wonderful week at this house in September 2015. From the initial contact with Manuel via VRBO, and the thorough orientation from his cousin Alfredo about the house and Funchal upon arrival, right through our post-departure communications, our hosts could not have been more responsive, warmer or more helpful. The description and pictures on the VRBO site are very accurate. The house is roomy, well-equipped (including a washing machine and modern bathrooms), spotlessly clean and centrally located. It is in the center of Funchal, but is very private thanks to the walls all around the house. We enjoyed our breakfasts and cocktail hours outside on the upper patio every day. We rented a car (and by informing Manuel of this ahead of time, we were able to park the car in the garage), and explored a different part of this hilly and lovely island each day. The cable car up to Monte offered great views of the city, and at the top, we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful botanical gardens. Some of us took an excellent Levada walk one day. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to enjoy the enchantment of Madeira.

Secluded villa close to the city and buses.

The house is very well kept. The pictures shown are completely according to how it is. The house has everything, the kitchen is extremely well equipped, everything is working. We were extremely well taken care of on arrival with Adriano as the taxi driver and Alfredo to show us around, both in the house and on a sightseeing in his car and to give us lots of practical information. We were happy to have Carla, the cleaner, to come every saturday. She did very good work. The communication with the owner was excellent from the very beginning and through all the 9 weeks of our stay. Manuel is always responsive, helpful and caring. We were happy to use the garage, which worked fine. We bought monthly cards on the buses. Very useful! The bus system in Funchal is absolutely excellent. We will also recommend the Lido to go swimming, both in the sea and in salt water pools. 20 mins to walk from the house, or one of the buses 5 mins away. Our stay of 9 weeks was like living in paradise! The house worked well, the city is very nice, the buses take you everywhere, the island is lovely with the nature, the flowers, the mountains and the sea. We were also very lucky with the weather. Of 63 days in Dec, Jan, Febr we had 60 days nice, warm and sunny. Everyone should go to Madeira! And we will absolutely reccomend Manuel's house.

Amazing location and great accommodations

Five of us arrived in Funchal at 6:00PM Christmas Eve, a time when many people are home with their families, but true to his word, Manuel (the owner) had arranged for us to be picked up at the airport and driven to his home. When we arrived we were greeted by Carla who showed us the house, explained any details we needed to know and had cooked a wonderful welcome pork traditional dish for us to sample. Delicious!! Because we were arriving late on Christmas Eve we were concern about things not being open, such as grocery stores and restaurants, however Manuel suggested we send him a list of items we anticipated we would need and he would ensure that they would be there. He also suggested several restaurants that would be open on Christmas Day. Warm and helpful hospitality like this always makes a holiday that much more special. Regarding the rental property itself, it was perfect for us. Large and spacious enough so that the five of us were not in each others way. Lot's of places both inside and outside where one could sit and relax and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine. It was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was well-equipped with all the required utensils for cooking. The pictures of the place that were posted on VRBO are an accurate representation, so there are no surprises. The biggest plus for us for this property is the location location location. Two members of our party are in their 70's and we were concern about being close enough to walk to things. This property could not be better located. Within walking distance to many restaurants, stores, the waterfront, the old town, the Lido, ....everything was within a 15 minute walk. Even the convenient hop-on/hop-off tour bus stopped within a minute from the house. I would stay here again anytime and highly recommend anyone to consider the Villa Magnolia as their destination home away from home in Madeira."

Stadtvilla in Funchal

Die Villa liegt in Gehnähe zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten von Funchal (City, Lido), nahe eines Parks. Sie hat einen kleinen abgeschiedenen Garten, der zum Teil Ausblick auf die Stadt gewährt. Innenausstattung ist sehr gut und sauber, die Küche ist voll eingerichtet (Kaffeemaschinen, Geschirrspüler, reichliche Ausstattung an Küchengeräten). Es gibt 3 Schlafzimmer, wobei das hinterste am ruhigsten ist. Außerdem ein gemütlich eingerichtetes Wohnzimmer. Die Unterkunft ist ideal, um Funchal besser kennenzulernen, ohne direkt im Trubel der City wohnen zu müssen. Auf Anfrage ist auch eine abschließbare Garage am Grundstück für den Leihwagen verfügbar, wobei das Auto nicht allzu groß sein sollte. Es ist aber auch eine öffentliche Bushaltestelle in direkter Nähe. Der Gastgeber ist sehr um seine Gäste bemüht, Kommunikation ist prompt und effektiv. Sehr empfehlenswert für Paare, die Selbstversorgung und etwas mehr Wohnraum als kleine Hotelzimmer schätzen.

Very comfortable traditional Madeiran family home

We found the villa to be very comfortable and well equipped and thoroughly enjoyed our extended stay here. Our hosts were excellent with good communications and helpful and prompt to answer any questions we had. Adriano is an excellent driver for the transfers from and to the airport. On arrival Alfredo gave an excellent tour of the accommodation and the next day after our clearance from our Covid test he gave us a sightseeing tour of the area and Funchal and passed on lots of practical information. Carla the housekeeper attended once a week and looked after us extremely well. She has a lovely sense of humour. After our extended stay due to cancelled flights we felt like family members. We had booked for 3 months and ended up staying for nearly 8 months and we loved every minute of it. The villa is situated in a good location,close to many good restaurants and in walking distance of the town and the lido. The accommodation is spacious with a lovely large game’s room downstairs. The outside space is good with plenty of seating areas and a fabulous barbecue to enjoy the good weather. Thank you for letting us share your lovely home.

Ideal place to stay in Funchal

Spacious, well-appointed, clean and in an ideal location for staying in Funchal. Our group was made up of two couples; one of which went mountain walking and one of which took a scuba diving course. The mountain walkers were able to use the bus service to go to the mountains, and the diving school was ten minutes' walk away. We really couldn't have found a better place to stay for this trip.

Sao Martinho property review

A very nice property. We liked the idea of being taken around the town by car so that we could get our bearings on the first night. The property had everything you could wish for. The games room downstairs was a bonus. The only reason we have scored the location down is because of the proximity to the road. That said, it is clear in the property advert. We had a lovely week and thank everybody for looking after us.

Our location is in the area of Reid’s Hotel and the ease to take the road is considered as an advantage for many visitors. People use to appreciate the starry sky during the evenings.

This house is very well situated in Funchal, the owners do everything to ensure you enjoy your stay

We stayed for 8 weeks in this very spacious, typically Madeiran style house with everything you could require. The housekeeper is excellent, and the owners respond immediately to any queries. You can walk to the lovely old town and to many good restaurants. The daytime weather is pleasantly warm and sunny in the winter months, with chilly evenings and nights. There are many climates in the island, it can be damp and cool in the mountainous areas while it is hot and sunny at sea level. We would recommend a stay at Magnolia Villa.

Very clean,comfortable with lots of great spaces for socializing. A marvelous view of Funchal

Having stayed here for Xmas/New Year 2015/2016 we returned for a longer stay. 32 days. Everything was just as we remembered. A beautiful family home with lots of great features. A short 10 minute walk to downtown Funchal. Manuel's team of Carla, Alfredo and Adriano were there for our every need. An ideal location for a short or long term stay. We will be back in the future. Madeira is a safe and beautiful island, well worth the trip!

Lovely apartment, spacious, enjoyed having the pool table and BBQ

We enjoyed the apartment, it was spacious and had good facilities including a good pool table and a BBQ. The location between the old town and the newer seaside developments was good for seeing both parts of Funchal. Manuel and his wife were very communicative and keen to help with advice which was great. We highly recommend the apartment.

Hallo the Lovers, Hallo Manuel, We would like to thank you and your wife for your very warm welcome in your home climate. From the beginning to the end, we felt good in him. Alberto took care of us as his loved ones, and Carla took care of our comfort. Thank you very much for the shopping cart that we could use during our stay and for the bottle of water. The surprise was prepared by you a little congratulations on the welcome. Your house is full of beautiful antique furniture. The kitchen is equipped with all the equipment and in the garden you can relax after a hard day. The cottage is located almost in the city center. We could easily reach there on foot. And in the evening as our legs were tired we rode to the taxi home for only € 5. Super is also a solution with a washing machine, which is located in a separate room. Beautiful Experience

The house was lovingly cared for, comfortable, and offered far more space and facilities than used by our group of five seniors. Located on a hill, as most of Funchal is, we were able to walk to city center and many restaurant choices much of the time. We did not use a car. The rose garden and patios added much to our stay. But the highest recommendations come for the kind and thoughtful owners who provided constant interest in our holiday, beginning long before our stay . A fine house attendant met us on the doorstep, toured the house with us then drove us through the city pointing out cites and facilities we might use. We felt well looked after. Our thanks to Manuel, his wife Janet, Alfredo our guide, and all the wonderful people who showed us Madeira 's best.

Kommunikasjonen har vært god med rask respons hele veien. Verten har vært genuint interessert i at vi skulle trives i huset og forøvrig gitt gode tips om området. Huset er perfekt plassert mellom sentrum og lokalt sentrum(badeområdet ) Verten organiserte henting til - og fra flyplassen og vi fikk og vel fremme fikk vi en god omvisning av huset. Huset var velholdt , rent og ryddig. Personlig syntes jeg det fremstod bedre i virkeligheten enn på bildene og kjøkkenet hadde alt tenkelig utstyr og huset har mye plass. En annen fin ting var muren rundt hele huset med egen dør inn til hagen/gårdsplassen. Dette utgjorde en god trygghetsfølelse Vi trivdes godt ute ved den lune grillplassen. Verten har vært fantastisk hele veien og vi anbefaler dette stedet på det varmeste.Christian

They communicate very well, we exchanged when necessary very friendly e-mails and phone calls. They also cooperated very positively when we had a little problem with the alarm. A Luxurious traditional property well maintained

Thank you Manuel for allowing my family the use of your beautiful home. From the moment we enquired about the property to the moment we finished the holiday you looked after us nothing was to much you kept in touch every step of the way even to the point of organising the transport from the airport. We were met by Alfredo when we arrived at the house who is a warm and friendly person, he showed us around the property and also took us for a tour of Funchal and explained were all the local amenities were situated. The pictures on the booking site do not convey the warmth and homeliness you get when you arrive at this Luxury house it had everything we needed to have a brilliant relaxed holiday the basement lounge was a lot larger than the pictures convey and we made good use of the snooker table. The property is in a excellent location and my 82 year old farther in law had no problems walking to the local restaurants and into Funchal centre. I would recommend this property to anybody wanting a relaxing peaceful holiday. Once again Manuel a big thank you. Kind Regards The Salt Family

Magnificent hosting - magnificent accommodation.

You will struggle to find a more accommodating host than Manuel, who owns the property. Every single query we raised prior to traveling to Funchal was met with a prompt, positive and cheerful response. His representatives on the island do him prod as well, and I absolutely assure you that they will all move Heaven and Earth to ensure that your break goes without the slightest hitch. The house is excellent, and in a very convenient location for the city - everything is either walkable, or just a very short cab ride away. (If you intend staying in and around Funchal there is no need to rent a car, but one may be useful if you intend travelling further afield). The house itself is spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. There is a small supermarket within a few minutes stroll, and there is everything that you could possibly want within a short walk, including some super bars and restaurants. Probably not suitable for the youngsters, but a wonderful home from home for the adults. Thank you very, very much for looking after us.

Contact with Manuel the owner was very good. Responses to my emails were always very fast. In the house Alfredo has very warmly welcomed us. Alfredo is a very friendly and helpful person. He showed us everything in the house and the grounds. Then he showed us by car, shops and the harbor and downtown Funchal. We have explored the city easily on foot. The house is very well suited for groups of 5-6 people. It also corresponds to the description as the extensive facilities. There is nothing to complain about. A busy road passes in front of the house. For the city location that is certainly not unusual. We did not bother but noise sensitive people should know that. I can Manuel, Alfredo and the house Recommend and would book again for 5-6 people. The island of Madeira and Funchal, we certainly visit again. Thank-You! Der Kontakt zu Manuel dem Vermieter war sehr gut. Antworten auf meine emails kamen immer sehr schnell. Im Haus hat uns Alfredo sehr freundlich empfangen. Alfredo ist ein sehr freundlicher und hilfsbereiter Mensch. Er hat uns alles im Haus und dem Grundstück gezeigt. Danach hat er uns mit dem Auto Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, sowie den Hafen und die Innenstadt von Funchal gezeigt. Wir haben die Stadt problemlos zu Fuß erkundet. Das Haus ist für Gruppen von 5-6 Personen sehr gut geeignet. Es entspricht ebenso der Beschreibung wie die umfangreiche Ausstattung. Es gibt nichts auszusetzen. Eine stark befahrene Straße geht vor dem Haus vorbei. Für die Stadtlage ist das sicher nicht ungewöhnlich. Uns hat das nicht weiter gestört aber Lärmempfindliche Leute sollten das wissen. Ich kann Manuel, Alfredo und das Haus weiterempfehlen und würde es für 5-6 Personen wieder buchen. Die Insel Madeira und Funchal besuchen wir sicher nochmal. Dankeschön!

Be friendly when you are welcomed as a friend. Do not disappoint our huge efforts to offer you a gorgeous cocoon with unreasonable demands What location do you prefer ? rural or urban ? house or building ? isolated or near all ? it's up to you to know what suits you. Superb

Four of us stayed here for 4 weeks in January/February and the weather was very good. We found it to be in an excellent location for any activity, within a reasonable walk to Funchal centre, the sea front, the local shops and restaurants. Everything about the villa exudes luxury and comfort. It was extremely well equipped and we really loved the room downstairs, especially the pool table! There was always a quiet spot to be found inside or outside where one could completely relax. We enjoyed eating breakfast outside, by the BBQ, nearly every day! The owner's relative who showed us round the villa and it's surroundings by car on arrival was extremely helpful, and the weekly cleaner was incredibly good. Would highly recommend to anyone.

lovely place to stay!

We stayed in Madeira in July for 2 weeks. When we arrived, a relative of the owner showed us the whole villa and he was even so kind to show us the most important places of Funchal, like where to buy groceries. He was very kind and helpful. He gave us his number in case of any questions or problems. The villa Magnolia is a very lovely place to stay. Everything was absolutely clean and we straightaway felt home. The interior is really classy and noble. Also the garden is nice with roses and small palm trees and lots of flowers. We enjoyed barbecuing and just relaxing in the hammock. In the back of the garden it was quiet and you could hardly hear the road. From the terrace you have a nice view of the Quinta Magnolia Garden and a little bit of the sea. The villa is situated perfectly to explore Funchal. There are a lot of nice restaurants within walking distance. Funchal is a wonderful city. If you like flowers you should visit the Monte garden. It was awesome and the view from Monte is stunning. There are a lot of wonderful places to see in Madeira. The nature is simply WONDERFUL. We had a gorgeous and relaxing time in Funchal. Somos un grupo de familia de 6 personas que hemos alquilado la casa de Janete y Manuel . La casa estaba muy limpia y ordenada , es muy grande y acogedora . En la planta de abajo hemos pasado buenos momentos jugando al billar y futbolin. Esta bien situada , a 10 minutos andando al centro de Funchal. Wonderful stay at a gorgeous island

A wonderful country, a wonderful city and a wonderful house. We were traveling with my mother (87), me (56), two in their twenties and a teenager. Great house, good beds, excellent bathrooms , two flat TVs, one large screen, Wifi, various comfortable environments inside and outside.The house is clean, well maintained and has a fully equipped kitchen. We used the garage and we liked to play pool billiards in the gaming room. In front and back of the house is a terrace. No real big garden (a rose garden), but we didn’t miss it at all. The house has much privacy, it's surrounded by a gate and wall that protects you from the road in front. It's busy during the daytime, but the noise in the house is minimal. Easy access to public transports. We were welcomed by a relative of the owner. A real adorable gentleman, very helpful, fluency in English. He supported us wonderful when my mother fell and injured herself late at night. Nothing seems to be too much for him. The centre of Funchal is just a couple of kilometers away. We rented a car at the airport because my mother can’t walk much anymore. The roads in Funchal are steep, just so you know :-). Within a few minutes you can reach a parking house in the centre of the city which is cheap compared to Dutch rates. Buses, taxis, hop on hop off tour are available. We recommend a tuk tuk tour that passes lots of places of interest which you can visit later. Nearby (5 minutes walk) is a small supermarket, fine bakery, pizzeria, icecream, restaurants, cash dispenser and a few more. Within 15 minutes walk, one can reach a place at the sea. Beaches are rare on Madeira, but at places like LIDO you can rent a long chair and sunshade. Lots of restaurants. To my opinion, the rent of the house is fair. A cash deposit of 500 Euro’s was demanded to be sure that unfortunate damage could be solved immediately. After no damage the full amount was returned immediately. It's very easy to get in touch with the owners, they always come back very fast by phone, skype and e-mail. We really enjoyed our stay and I would recomend this house.
