The host contacted us an hour before check-in to say there had been a crawfish boil and she couldn’t get the smell out. She asked if we wanted her to do anything about it, and I asked if she could at least light a candle.When we arrived, the listing was very misleading. It was not a ten-minute walk from the pier, and there was black mold and a roach in the shower. The dishwasher was broken, and the house relied on window A/C units that didn’t cool the space. It was still hot in the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. The fridge was dirty with gnats inside.The door lock wouldn’t lock, and the top-floor door was completely unlocked, which felt unsafe. The host didn’t answer our calls and only texted back. Vrbo wasn’t helpful either—the representative put us on a confusing three-way call with the host, and both kept saying the other was responsible for our refund.We eventually left and found another place to stay. Vrbo later said the host didn’t want to be bothered until Monday.Overall, I wouldn’t stay here or book with this host again. It was my first time using the app, and probably my last after this experience.
