About the host
Your host

We’re Dave and Kitty, and we are thrilled to share our South Portland retreat with you.
Dave is an author and journalist with deep Maine roots—his family were early midcoast settlers going back to the late 1600s. He writes for National Geographic, Harper's, Popular Mechanics, and Down East magazine, where he writes about fellow Mainers and the state's remarkable landscape. He hopes you'll be inspired by the book collection, and by the beautiful natural surroundings.
Kitty is a designer and owner of a design and décor business. With a love for mid-century modern and thoughtfully curated spaces, she’s brought her design eye to this home—blending comfort, functionality, and style. Every corner is designed to feel both inspiring and welcoming, whether you’re gathering with family, cooking together, or curling up with a good book.
This home represents our dream retreat—a creative, comfortable space rooted in Maine’s history. We love this area and hope you’ll feel right at home here, whether you’re visiting for a summertime summer excursion, an offseason adventure, or romantic weekend.

Why they chose this property
South Portland is the Brooklyn of Maine—hip, creative, and full of character. You get all the amenities of Portland just across the bridge, but a full array of interesting restaurants and smoother access to the beaches and Casco Bay destinations that make the area so special.
You can stroll Willard Beach (dog-friendly after 7:30pm—perfect for evening walks with pups) and bike the Greenbelt to Bug Light Park, which will always hold a special place in our hearts because one of our first dates was there.
And you're just across the bridge from the Old Port's restaurants, breweries, and arts scene. It’s this mix of ocean air, creative energy, and local flavor that made us want to create a home here—and share it with others.

What makes this property unique
We designed this home to be more than just a place to stay — it’s a space for gathering, creating, and enjoying the best of Greater Portland.
We fell in love with the wide-open kitchen, and Dave (a passionate cook) has tricked it out for hosting and family meals. Whether you’re whipping up a lobster feast or simply sharing wine and cheese, it’s a place meant for togetherness.
The open layout makes it easy for everyone to connect—whether you're cooking, relaxing, or planning your next adventure.
The neighborhood offers a true local feel along with seasonal water views in winter and gorgeous sunsets from the upper deck.
It’s the kind of place where you can gather as a group, relax into the serenity of coastal Maine, and make memories that last.
