About this property

Sweet one level house in the Heart of Alberta Arts

The perfect house for family or friends, centrally located in the perfect Portland neighborhood. Diverse, rich in culture, excellent food and drink, on transit lines and totally walkable, you won't even need a car if you don't want to have one.

We are a legally permitted 4 bedroom short term rental house! Permit #LU 15-267213 CU. We are a registered business with, and pay lodging and business tax to, the City of Portland (TaySoif LLC). Please note there is a small extra charge for more than 6 people. Eight guests is our limit.

The four bedroom two bath main house is for guests; we have a tenant in an apartment upstairs which has its own entry and deck. Guests also get the driveway (where you can park up to 3 cars single file), the front porch, and the back yard. Neighborhood quiet hours are 10PM to 8AM. No events can be hosted here.

Awesome clean beds and pillows, and a clean, comfortable, well appointed, great-smelling house in a vibrant neighborhood. Central air! We LOVE to make our guests have the vacation or short term stay they want.

This is one of Portland's best "pocket" neighborhoods. It's diverse and unique; full of walkable fun. There are so many restaurants and bars within blocks of the house. There are shops, art galleries, the well-stocked Alberta Co-op grocery, and a Zoom care all within steps of the house. Our neighborhood: creative and cool, friendly, fabulous food, flat, walkable, and bikeable. We have Alberta's 'Last Thursday': the divine arts fair on the last Thursday of every warm month, when they close the whole street and the artsy spirit of PDX is in full bloom... Fall in love with Portland here.

We restored this 1970's ranch in 2013 (and again in 2016 when we built the apartment upstairs) to give it a geometric, clean, inviting style. Quiet, solid bamboo floors run throughout the house, every appliance is Energy Star, all the bulbs are LED. It's super private, and the living/outdoor spaces do not intersect with the upstairs tenant's area at all. The front porch is a great place to watch the neighborhood walk by, and the big back yard has a beautiful gazebo with two couches and dining table with umbrella and a dining table with six chairs and a huge umbrella. All for you.

Free fast wifi. ROKU TV where you can log in with your streaming apps. Fully equipped kitchen with such staples as sugar, spices, and oil, cleaning supplies, paper towels, napkins. A private code for each party in the internet-controlled locks. Two bikes with helmets and locks. A charcoal barbecue grill.
It's SUPER important that you realize how much we value the quiet and peace of our neighbors, did I mention that? We understand that you may be on vacation, but they are not. You are their guests in their neighborhood, too.
Public transit is just half a block away!
We may negotiate rates if certain dates are not booked, or for a smaller party (1 or 2 people)

The house was wonderful!! The backyard was beautiful. It was safe, it was clean, the bedrooms were a nice size and had comfortable beds. The shower was honestly my favorite part, I didn't run out of hot water and I got to take a nice steaming shower!! The kitchen being nice and like stocked with plates and utensils also made it easier on us.So we could actually have dinners while we were in town and not have to go to a restaurant. Although the nearby restaurants we did check out were wonderful, this place is in a GREAT neighborhood.

Lovely home in Alberta Art District

We needed a place close to a wedding venue for my family and this place was great! Beds comfortable, kitchen well stocked (coffee and tea provided), nice living room for some football viewing and close to shops and restaurants. I’d stay here again!

Great Location

In town for a wedding. Close to everyplace we needed to be. Thank goodness for driveway, parking on the street would have been nearly impossible at times. As it was, tight to get into and out of driveway. House as described in listing.

Family Event Heaven

The house was perfect for our trip to Portland for a family event. Spacious but cozy, the place was able to accommodate my parents (95 and 96), my daughters (19 and 24), and my sister. We were able to entertain and also enjoy the Alberta arts district. Amy was the consummate host providing everything we needed. She was quick to respond and eager to help. It was a wonderful experience and I’m so grateful. I give it my highest recommendation!!!

This one is a GEM

This is a delightful property in a great location, within a very short waking distance of shops, restaurants and bars. The host furnished the property with everything we needed (and more), including umbrellas, full kitchen utensils and an elevated toilet seat for my aging father. It was perfect for our family, with multiple bedrooms, beds and a beautiful living area, dining area and kitchen. The hosts were super responsive, and it was a great experience from start to finish.

Perfect Portland rental.

We use VRBO a lot and we’ve never rented the same house twice — except for this one. It’s a great house in a perfect location. It’s in the heart of the Alberta Arts district so there are plenty of restaurants, food trucks, shopping, galleries all within walking distance. The house has everything you need to make you feel right at home including a driveway to park in. Amy is wonderful to work with. She’s very accommodating and communication with her is always prompt. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Portland.

Wonderful Thanksgiving week

Our family of 6 enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving week at this roomy house in the Alberta Arts area. The house is less than a block to Alberta Street and not much farther over to Prescott, so there is an abundance of restaurants, coffee spots, and shopping to walk to. The Mississippi area is a short drive away and lots of fun as well. The house is very well outfitted, and Amy supplies basics that make family living very convenient. Even with so many restaurants steps away, we found ourselves loving the together time of preparing our own meals in the well-appointed kitchen and very much appreciated the variety of pots and pans and plenty of dishware. Also, the spacious living rooms and bedrooms are comfortable and supplied with everything one would need. Great place!

Great location and house!

This house was a perfect fit for our family (my husband and I, baby, and 2 older kids) - it's at a great location in the Alberta Arts district, was spacious enough for us (kids could each have their own bedroom, and there are 2 rooms in the back adjoined by a common bathroom), was very comfy and clean, and kids liked the ability to get wifi/hulu/play ipods via the receiver. While we spent time in other parts of the city too, we really liked that it was within walking district of many great restaurants and shops - including the ever-popular Salt & Straw (easy access to the line), amazing coffee, a record store, and Grain & Gristle. The owner, Amy, gave us a great info sheet about the surrounding businesses and was very responsive to our questions. We hope to come back to this house when we are in Portland again next summer, and I'm sure it will be even more enjoyable when the back patio is done. Thanks!!

Friends and Art

The rental was very clean and had all the basics, dishes, etc. If all 8 of our party had been able to be there together, the house would have been lacking comfortable space. As it turned out only 5 of us were able to be there together, and the living room furniture was not very comfortable for five, so definitely would not have been comfortable for 8 to enjoy conversation and time together. There was sleeping space for 8, as long as 6 of the 8 are couples. The location was great. Loved being able to walk to town to pick up a few groceries and check out some stores. The house was adequate for the five of us. The weather was not good enough to enjoy the backyard, but looked very nice. We did hear some noise from the apartment upstairs - talking, and some thumping possibly from a dog, but wasn't really intrusive. Overall we enjoyed our visit there together.

Belong to A Fabulous Neighborhood

Our family met in Portland to celebrate a birthday (86th), a graduation (Ducks) and as it turned out several winning efforts by our favorite sports teams (Kings, FIFA, Mariners). Our home base was Amy's perfectly accommodating single floor residence. What an easy place to live for almost a week. Alberta Arts district is close to downtown, and all points out of town (coast, Eugene, Seattle, airport). We played a game in the car jotting notes as to why this was such a lovely place to stay. Here are some of our notes: Fresh flowers - not horrible fake flowers that are very typical in some rental properties; room for everyone - 5/6 of us; lightbulbs and lamps working - providing excellent illumination (not always true in rental properties); living room fun to hang out in and watch sporting activities; kitchen has everything necessary and an island for all to gather and munch; the outdoors area was lovely - but it rained too much for us to enjoy; walking distance to grocery, restaurants, best ice cream in the world, three yoga studios, bars, pubs and cool shops; fantastic neighborhood gardens, home was spotless, towels overflowed the closets, nice organic sweet smelly soap/wash/shampoo in each bathroom... Thank you Amy - our stay was perfect!

Multiple issues...cannot recommend this place

I can't give this place a good review. I'm limited to 1500 characters, so here are the highlights: 1. Biggest issue: There is a depression in the yard next to the driveway (specifically, the north side of the driveway where it meets the sidewalk). The depression is 2-3" deep and covered by weeds. My wife tripped on this depression. She went down hard. Fortunately, she didn't hit her head or hurt her hip. But she sprained her ankle, which ruined the rest of our vacation...no hikes along the Columbia River Gorge, no walks on Cannon Beach. Major bummer. My advice to the owners: get rid of the weeds and fill in the depression so nobody else trips. 2. Cleanliness. The bathroom in the back of the house had a long hair on the side of the tub. There was also a hair on the ceiling, near the exhaust vent (which is probably still there). There was also a long hair on the sheet in the back right bedroom, and dust on every ceiling fan in the house. There were popcorn crumbs on the kitchen table and potato chip crumbs on the floor under the table. 3. Dirty washing machine. There was debris in the washing machine (looked like backing from a throw rug). Worse, there was mold in the washing machine (on the backside of the door gasket). I cleaned the debris and the mold myself. Also, the dial on the washing machine doesn't work right. (The owner knows this - her instructions: keep turning the knob until it works.) There's more, but that's enough. I have pix as well.

We were very familiar with the neighborhood and knew we’d find great food and shops. It was a central location for our family that lives in Portland to connect with all of us who came from Colorado. House was clean and comfortable with large living and dining areas for the family meal gatherings.

About the host

Hosted by Amy Taylor

Host profile image
Hi, I'm Amy. We've been in Oregon 28 years and we love it! We live in a suburb just south of Portland. We are so lucky to have this house in Alberta arts, the neighborhood is so walkable and fun. If you need anything we are just a message orphone call away, but we know all our neighbors, and our wonderful upstairs tenant is usually on site as well.

Why they chose this property

If you know Portland, you know this is the spot. If you don't know Portland, lucky you. You found a spotless house with lovely beds and spaces, close to everything. You can park in the drivrway,! Our neighborhood is quiet, safe, friendly and fun. You can make coffee or tea with the supplied beans and leaves in the morning, or you can walk to either corner for an awesome cup from Fuel Cafe or Extracto. Spend a great day in and around Portland, (we get lots of business travelers too, 1.8 miles to the convention center!) and at night, amble home from any number of establishments within walking distance. If you can resist all the restaurants, cook with gas in the well-equipped kitchen. Lounge in the back yard or on the front porch on those warm days, and enjoy the house with central AC and heat when it's not a perfect Portland day.

What makes this property unique

We chose this property for its location. It would be hard to find a better one. After all the gutting and remodeling and landscaping (2016), the house is super inviting with its clean lines and the improvements that matter for guests...the quiet, clean bamboo floors, the good beds, the open kitchen/living area, which is perfect for groups. We followed that aesthetic in remodeling the front patio with its geometric blue stone and granite path and patio, and a pergola. The front porch and the back yard, weather permitting, are great places to enjoy. The back yard is landscaped with a covered gazebo for those warm months when you'll appreciate the shade, and a dining set for six. The tenant's upstairs apartment does not intersect with your living space at all.
