We were pleased with everything during our stay at the Hideaway. The pictures on VRBO did not do this place justice. The rooms were spacious and the many sitting areas allowed us to enjoy peaceful times - together and separately. The view of the lake was awesome and the calm cove that the house is on was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay!
This was the perfect stay for our youth mentoring while visiting Charlotte. Rooms and beds were very accommodating to our sleeping policies and guidelines. The lake added a relaxing atmosphere. We will save this site for future visits!
We loved this house on the lake. We could spend all day in the backyard, just looking at the water. Very beautiful neighborhood to walk around. So peaceful and quiet. Thank you for sharing this little piece of paradise with us.
Another excellent stay on Lake Norman. We love coming here each year. Charles is an excellent host and has always made us feel welcome. We look forward to returning again next year or sooner!
Second time we have rented this home. Plenty of room for our family with 4 bathrooms and lots of beds for adults and kids. Safe swimming area and plenty of outdoor space for hiking and observing nature. Highly recommend!
This was close to where we were working. Wished we had time to enjoy the home.

Great siblings get together.
This house has absolutely everything you need and more! Large, spacious rooms, lots of chairs, toys, games! The kitchen is extremely well stocked. Loved the separate ice maker! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.

Enjoyed it once again.
This property will always be my first choice for visiting Lake Norman. The property is in the perfect location and is in great condition. We had everything we need here; not to mention, the owner is so kind and accommodating. Thanks again Doc. We will be back soon.
What a fantastic place for a family vacation. Then kids loved the beach, the bunk beds and fishing off the dock. There was plenty of room for both sets of grandparents to join us. Not just for sleeping, but lounging and talking without being on top of one another. This place is so great, im selfishly reluctant to share all of its awesomeness, so we can revisit every year.
Absolutely fantastic my family and myself had the very best time at this home on the lake. It’s a gorgeous home. Very well taken care of. It was so delightful just to walk down to the lake and be on a sandy. We have all decided we definitely want to come back. Thank you for allowing us at your wonderful home.

A great family house
The Hideaway was a great place for our family. The owner of the home was very gracious and helpful. It comes through that his intent was to provide a fun getaway house for family (all ages), young to old. We enjoyed all of the outdoor spaces: decks, porches and fire pit area. We were able to rent a boat for a couple of days with the large dock available. Thank you for providing such a lovely vacation spot! We will be back.
We gathered at Hideaway for our son's college graduation. The house was perfect for our family. We would love to go back because we had such a great time at this house. To name a few things - the access to the lake, the part of the lake it is located on, the huge windows in the house, the screen porch, the outdoor sitting areas, the docks, and the kayaks made our stay very memorable. We all agreed we would love to go back for a vacation. Thank you to the hosts for such a lovely stay!

Dog vacay
This is our second trip to Lake Norman and almost on the same street. The house is a private setting and has all you need for a great trip. This was a trip for our dog who jumped off the dock 7 hours a day. Needless to say, she is now depressed being home.

Great location on a beautiful lot!
The Hideaway proved to be a great gathering spot for my family to celebrate Thanksgiving and my 60th birthday! Dr Hutchens was attentive to my questions and needs. My favorite feature of the house is its location amongst the pines on the lake. Looking out of the many windows in the main living area the views are woods and lake, loved that! They could use some new outdoor furniture. Inside decor is dated but clean. Although the weather was very nice for Thanksgiving, we would like to return in the summer!

Lake Norman is a beautiful lake! The house is in a very private location on a lovely wide cove.
The house is very spacious! 3 large bedrooms with king beds and private bathrooms and a bedroom with 4 bunk beds and a bath across the hall. It was perfect for our family gathering! There is a slide that the grands loved and several kayaks. There's plenty of room on the large dock, extensive decking, and screen porch. There's 3 living areas inside. Room for everyone to eat together. The house is next to a Trump Golf community with beautiful homes. Lake Norman is huge, so it wasn't crowded. We rented a pontoon and everyone loved tubing and swimming ! It's one of the best vacations we have ever had!

Great kid/pet friendly place on the lake
Perfect place for our 16 person weekend family reunion with our small dogs. We enjoyed the doc with the paddle boat and 3 kayaks, especially small one for our 8yr old. Jumping off the slide was fun for the teenagers. We rented a large pontoon boat with a tub that docked easily. Advise reserving rental boat weeks before. We had to rent from WestPort Marina which was 45mins drive but 20mins boat ride. Recommend using phone GPS on the water as all coves look alike and there are plenty. Our cove was quiet and family oriented.
House was easy to find with the GPS. Property is older but it was clean and maintained with lots of decking straight to the doc. Loved all the rocking chairs and swings. Owner was very helpful in recommending local attractions and offered any support which we didn't need, except help with kid toy left behind.
We would rent this place again.
The house and the lake were both beautiful and we enjoyed it very much. My only complaint is that the mattress in the master bedroom on the side closest to the door is well slept in. Also, at 7:29 this morning the smoke alarm in the master bedroom started going off for no apparent reason And resolved itself within five minutes. That was just enough time to wake everyone in the house, including the baby.
It was a great place for friends to unite to celebrate a birthday!

Charles H. Hutchins, M. D. - Facial Plastic Surgeon in practice in Gastonia, NC for 38 years: Laser Skin Care, P.L.L.C. Cecile B. Hutchins, RN - wife x 50 years 2 daughters; 2 grandsons
Why they chose this property
We bought the property in 1974, when we moved to Gastonia, and it has been our main source of recreation all these years. Our two daughters grew up with the place. As our family expanded, we found it expedient to do the major renovation and addition in 2004. In 1987 we bought the Cozy Cottage (VRBO#484074) next door; it sleeps eight .
What makes this property unique
We enjoy the open spacious feeling, the nautical theme decor, the large screen porch, the shady decks, the private setting, and the surrounding woods and wildlife. The relatively smooth water of the cove renders it ideal for water sports and offers protection from the big waves of the main channel. Our lot with 156 frontage feet of shoreline is located in a nook that maintains our sand beach.
