This custom built home is a step back in time, but has modern amenities like wifi, new 4k flat screens, beds and appliances. You will spend some time looking around & have lots of talking points! This home is classic 1972. The location is located about 1.5 miles from downtown Waterbury and a mile or so from the interstate. Waterbury is the crossroad between Sugarbush, Stowe, Mad River and Bolton Ski areas. Smugglers Notch ski area or Burlington is only 30 minutes away. Waterbury is a fun town with brew pubs and fine dining. There is high speed internet, a Bluetooth stereo system and Sirius XM Radio . This home is fully stocked with dishes in both kitchens. There is a Keurig coffee machine with coffee. There's an iron and ironing board. There's a brand new gas grill. We are looking at having the in-ground heated pool open for June. We are installing a pool table with pingpong top in the garage for bookings after April.

This is my second stay here and it was even better than the last because we stayed when the pool was open. It was such a treat to be able to have personal access to a pool for our stay and utilize the grill. The views are breathtaking!
Excellent and fun property! Fabulous views and sunsets. The house was in a perfect location for skiing multiple areas and we enjoyed it! The host was available for questions and promptly answered and inquiry!
Beautiful home for our Stowe ski trip, the listing pictures don't do this home justice. It's very cozy and comfortably fit 8 people. Thanks so much for the wonderful weekend!!
We had a great time here! So much snow came down and a plow came twice to make sure we could get out of the driveway. The house was clean and ready for us. Such a cool decor with plenty of space and a great loft for the kiddos! Waterbury is adorable and its an easy drive right to the heart of the town. Would definitely stay again!
The location was perfectly situated between Stowe and Sugarbush. It would have been nice to have had access to the fireplace. There was a gas insert but this was not set up for fires. There was plenty of room and the vibe was very 70s in a great way.

Great View, plumbing issues
We stayed with 8 adults for a weekend in the summer to visit sites around Montpelier. The location is beautiful and the decor is fun. There was plenty of room, however, there are only two bedrooms, one loft with bulk and a pullout couch in the basement. The pictures made it seem like there might have been 3 bedrooms, so that was disappointing. The pool was great.Check in was unclear. The instructions said the key would be on an orange bench, and instead we found two, one under a welcome mat and one in a bucket...The place has three bathrooms with 3 showers. All three toilets worked, but only one shower worked as expected. The basement shower had very little water pressure (so little we could not wash our hair). The loft bathroom cold water did not work (the knob was gone)There were limited kitchen supplies, so bring your own parchment paper, Saran wrap or aluminum foil.Fridge and oven worked great.Bottom line: great location, lots of space, but you need to be very flexible about the condition of the place/plumbing.
My family of 5 was looking for a place to stay in Waterbury or the surrounding area. We had limited choices because we were looking to be able to swim, knowing that it was has been a hot humid summer. We chose this place, we were a bit apprehensive because of a few reviews. Nothing notably bad happened, but, the place has a strange smell in the kitchen and basement, the whole place is rather run down. Not well maintained. Beds are fine, but the lighting is not, most rooms do not have much light. The shower is tiny and has rust and mildew around it. The pool is great, but there are inner tubes that all have holes. If you are traveling here with littles, the pool is likely 10 feet at the deep end. Bring something to float on. The umbrella’s for the tables are broken. No air conditioning inside. The plastic chairs are broken. The main space TV did not have working remotes. Our family movie had to happen on a small computer screen instead. When we sent a message, we never heard a response. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean. It needs a spruce up. However, the view from the porch is very impressive.
Fantastic views! A perfect spot for our family- 5 adults who were in the area for a wedding in Stowe. The location was perfect and we enjoyed the eclectic 70’s vibe. Very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed.

Unmaintained Retro
The house is definitely 70s themed and it appears very little has been done to maintain it since then. There are three showers. Two are stall showers that have rust and mold in the seams, the third is a tub shower with soap scum dried on the floor. The vent fan only works in one of the three bathrooms. The smell of the kitchen cabinets and dishes in them made me gag all weekend. House was dusty, a varmint in the ceiling on the 3rd floor was causing debri to fall on the bunkbed, the bunkbed ladder was broke. Upon arrival the kitchen cabinets had expired food and open food with ants inside the packaging. The advertised "heated pool" was not heated. The owner did not respond when I contacted him regarding the ants and the pool during our stay. The pool was relatively clean though, the firepit and propane grill were nice amenities to use. Until the house is thoroughly cleaned and small repairs made, I do not recommend this tental to others.
A group of friends and I stayed in the home for a wedding in the area, and it was fantastic for seven adults! Lots of space and unique features of the home. The pool and outdoor fire pit are awesome! Would absolutely stay again!
We stayed with our family of four and in-laws. Everything was exactly as listed. We were close to everything: downtown Waterbury, Stowe and Burlington. The 70s vibe was groovy and tons of books to explore! Hope to stay again!
Great cool place to hang out. Great views and great old school vibe. Kids enjoyed all the old books!

Vermont Escape
House needs a lot of work and better cooking skillets. The outdoor pool area was fantastic and we loved the long dining table!

Pool was nice, home was cozy and lots of space for games, and conversation. We were very pleased with our stay and would stay again and recommend to friends. 10/10!
Needs professional cleaning & rodent extermination
House itself is very cool. It needs professional cleaning, mouse extermination, mouse feces in toaster & counter tops, live mouse ended up in dishwater in sink, outdoor grill needs cleaned still had old food on it, refrigerator was dirty, need new bed sheets full of pilling
The moment we stepped into this house, it felt like crossing into another time—warm wood tones, intricate wallpaper, and a spiral staircase whispering stories of the past. More than a stay, it was an experience—a living museum where every detail added to its undeniable charm. It had plenty of room for 9 adults, with plenty of towels, blankets and pillows. By day, it was the perfect ski retreat, just 25 minutes from Stowe. By night, the endless stars made stepping outside a privilege. Inside, the home wrapped us in rustic comfort, blending history with warmth. Sure, there were quirks—missing game pieces, no firewood, small coffee mugs—but they only added to its character. For food, Thai Smile was a gem, and no trip is complete without Alchemist Brewing’s Vermont-only beers. Honestly, even if you came just for the breweries, this house would be worth it.This isn’t the Four Seasons, and it doesn’t try to be. It’s something rarer: a place with soul, a time capsule of history and warmth that lingers long after you leave. The basement cabinets were the coolest part—this house is a must-stay. Thank you for your hospitality!

Chalet Stay
The location is perfect and the town of Waterbury is lovely.
The layout is perfect for a two family vacation, if everything is working properly and clean.
Three full bathrooms and only one could be used to shower and only two of the toilets could be used.
There was mold in the one fully functioning bathroom shower. We were left with one and a half rolls of toilet paper. The house was very musty and full of dust. It needs a good airing out and cleaning. Curtains falling off of rods throughout the hose. The king room bedroom had broken cranks on the windows. Pool was dirty.and
Werent there much mostly to just sleep. When got there ran litchen sink (upstairs-main) leaked so nad soaked under sink. We called about it
Said some1 would come but no 1 did. It as okay we used sink downstairs if needed it but we didnt use it. Nor the pool (to cold temperature outside)

About the host
Hosted by Tim Mack
Tim & Stephanie live in Essex with their 3 kids. They run their own businesses & manage this rental home in their spare time. Tim grew up in Essex & is a native Vermonter while Stephanie grew up in New York State. Tim is a snowboarder while Stephanie & their kids are skiers.
Why they chose this property
Tim's Aunt Martha bought the chalet in the 80s. She purchased it from the original builder. Martha's passion was antiques & owns M.Lewis Antiques in downtown Waterbury. Thus us you see lots of the original decorations still left in their original locations. Tim & Stephanie follow Aunt Martha's love for funky things & appreciate the chalet in it's orginal charm. We hope you love it too!
What makes this property unique
The views of the Green Mountains is outstanding. The house is extremely quiet & you don't hear cars going by. You will get a kick out of all the nick knacks, vintage wallpaper & colorful bathrooms! When was the last time you got to use a spiral staircase? Have fun & let us know what you find interesting!
