Overall we had a great time, good value, some room for improvement
The location has convenient access to local towns and is an easy drive from Peterborough. There is lots of space and having the second (1/2 bath) was helpful. David was good to deal with when we had a minor issue with a power outage (caused by the utility provider, not his property). Wifi was good.
There are some areas for improvement:
1) More clarity on the fact that you need to bring your own bed sheets and pillowcases; this was not mentioned in the listing (we triple-checked) but is common now with Covid so not a deal-breaker.
2) The property does have multiple examples of "deferred maintenance" as another review mentioned, but that is also reflected in the price.
3) Some of the Queen beds are smaller than a regular queen - we think they are actually doubles.
4) The waterfront is really shallow and weedy so think carefully if you are planning to bring a powerboat into the dock; it can be done but you'd want to scope it out first. Kayaks would be fine.
Communication with the owner was excellent. Was able to get good tips for fishing spots and cottage info like wifi codes, local areas to go and places for things we needed.
One concern I had was the charges. Cottage says up to eight people. We were originally slated for 6, but 2 could not make it. There are hidden charges if you have over 4 people and we have not been refunded this portion. We tried calling VRBO and the owners, seems like no one wants to commit to refunding this portion. So beware of this item. I have tried to explain this situation and it is not resolved by either side. Not impressed by this specific thing, but overall the stay was as expected.

Basil was a great guest and we would gladly welcome him back again as he left our cottage clean on check out. We are disappointed that he gave us only a 3 star as a result of not being able to get a refund. I tried to do this for him but was unable to from my end. I did offer him a discount totalling the charge for extra guests if he stayed with us again. Our charges are not hidden and a summary is shown prior to confirming the reservation. Glad you had a great time Basil and the picture of the Bass you sent me was really nice. Safe travels.
Davids cottage is so nice and cozy! Had family up from the Friday-Monday and everyone had their own room. Everything you need David has and more. The kitchen, dinning room and living room is spacious. We booked the week and let me tell you it was amazing! Peaceful, quiet and so relaxing!
Thanks David for having us stay at your cottage😊

Decent place, enjoyable stay if you overlook the negatives, needs maintenance.
The property was not bad, had some visible aging on the walls, roof, and the backyard deck. The roof tiles had moss growing on it, screen door in the back yard has a whole in it making it ineffective at keeping mosquitos out, the little mosquito/bug room in the backyard (meant for you to be able to sit outside and be protected from bugs) had a wasp net growing on the outside.
The interior was nice and cozy, although the roof had visible splattered stains which weren't cleaned, the main floor bathroom did not lock properly, and the upstairs bathroom had no lock, only a closet like door.
The overall stay was okay, the property was good other than the issues stated above, and David was responsive, although I do believe the property could use some very needed maintenance.

Yahya on check out said he loved our place and would definitely be renting from us and would be leaving us a 5 star review. Once I informed him of whaht my cleaners reported to me on arrival his opinion changed very quickly. they informed me verbally and with photos that the cottage was mistreated and left in disarray. There was blood on the floor in one of the bedrooms with bandages and garbage was left all over the home including inside the refrigerator and cupboards. They damaged the stone surround of our fire pit and clogged our kitchen sink. The only positive was communication was very pleasant. If Yahya had left our home in a respectful state I would have gladly hosted him again but based on the fact that he and his guests treat other peoples homes worse than most would treat a hotel I would never host him again. Hosts out there beware.
Davids place is perfect for a family getaway. We had a fantastic annual dads and kids weekend. His cottage is clean and the property is spacious. Book with confidence.
