Country cottage with a spectacular view in west Iceland, 80 min from Reykjavik

A beautiful, comfortable and cosy cottage located at the end of Skorradalsvatn in the valley Skorradalur with a stunning view over the lake. This is a heavily grown area with lots of hiking possibilities for the whole family. The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed (140x200 cm) and one with two single beds (bunk bed 80x200 cm), a Loft with some mattresses. Kitchen with good facilities, dining area, living room, TV. WC/shower.
The terrace (15sqm) is a on three sides of the cottage with garden furniture, so you´ll be able to catch the sun from early morning until sunset.
There is a parking place by the road. Right beneath the parking place there is the waterfront, a beautiful place to relax, play or fish. The cottage is in the middle of the hill and there is quite a walk up the hill but very worth the while.

Borgarnes and Snæfellsnes: Day-trips to Snæfellsnes, Breiðafjörður (the island of Flatey) and the southern part of the Westfjords show the best Iceland has to offer; amazing landscapes, countless hiking trails, boat trips and whale-watching to name a few.

The town of Borgarnes is only a 30 min away where you'll find all necessary services; medical service, supermarkets, gas stations, restaurants, banks, pharmacy, liquor store, museum etc.

There are many public pools with hot tubs in the area. Nearest is Hreppslaug in Skorradalur, 20 min drive in the direction to Borgarnes. Ideal to visit after a busy day of activity in this beautiful area.

The cottage is located in Skorradalur, a valley just over an hour drive from Reykjavik. It is a favorite for many Icelanders and has become one of the most sought-after cottage areas in Iceland due to mild and calm weather and exceptional nature. It has great hiking trails through forests and heavily grown areas, along the beach of lake Skorradalsvatn where you can also go fly fishing. Activities in the area such as horseback riding, playing golf until well after midnight in the summer and kick back in one of the many geothermal pools in the area. Skorradalur is ideally located if you want to explore the west of Iceland as short trips can be made to Húsafell and the surrounding glaciers, waterfalls such as Barnafossar and Glymur and historical places like Reykholt, Borg á Mýrum, the valley of Norðurárdalur are well within an hours drive as is national park of Þingvellir. Day-trips to Snæfellsnes, Breiðafjörður and the southern part of the Westfjords show the best Iceland has to offer.

A Gem of a Hillside Escape

Our stay here was truly special! The location, the lake, the birds, our host, it was all memorable. It provided us with a jumping off point to explore the wide area which we found to be most delightful. Greta took good care of us and made sure our stay was most excellent. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful lake side cottage

Gorgeous location and an easy drive from Keflavík International. Lots of sights within driving distance for day trips and it's 30 minutes away from Borgarnes where you can do all your grocery shopping or go out for dinner. The road along the lake is only paved part way but the drive is smoother than many of the other gravel roads in Iceland and is no problem even for a 2WD car.

Quaint cottage experience

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. It was clean and had everything in it to provide a wonderful remote lake cottage experience. It was nice to make dinner and relax to a good Netflix show at the end of a busy day. The location was perfect for a base to explore from. Thank you Greta :)

It was a remarkable stay — we loved the cabin and the location! We stayed here with our small dog and enjoyed our time immensely. We joked the views from the cabin were worth the stairs every time we got back up. Although the steps would for sure be a challenge to those with mobility issues, we were (at minimum) going up and down them four times a day to give the pup a walk and found them to be no big deal. (But all the respect in the world to whomever carried the furniture into the cabin lol!)The lake is stunning and incredible to explore. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the tools you may need to whip up your meals. The space was beautifully decorated, perfectly clean, and very cozy. Can’t recommend it enough :)

Lovely cabin as a starting point for exploring the north West

For us, the cabin was a lovely base camp for exploring the West of Iceland. The cabin immediately felt like home for us. The cabin is super nicely placed at a slope with a view over a beautiful lake. It is super quiet, well equiped, has great beds and we could even make use of the hot tub. Really a lovely place to stay! One thing would have been good to know in advance: if you want to drive towards the golden circle area, you either need a 4x4 car to take short route or need to take quite a D-tour to avoid a rough patch of road, that isn't in many cases OK for a normal car. Other then that: I would very much recommend this cabin!

Magische Auszeit

Wir kamen spät abends dort an und nachdem wir unser Gepäck die knapp 90 Stufen hochgetragen hatten, betraten wir das Ferienhaus. Das Haus ist sehr liebevoll eingerichtet, es war schon warm und in der Küche sind alle Utensilien vorhanden. Wir durften uns sogar aus dem Vorratsschrank bedienen. Nach der ersten Nacht in den echt bequemen Betten konnten wir den Ausblick und die Ruhe auf der Terrasse genießen. Das Haus liegt abgelegen am Ende des Sees und ist über eine Schotterstraße recht gut erreichbar. Nach unseren Touren freuten wir uns jedesmal nach Hause zu kommen. Und das Beste kam noch, als wir dann die Nordlichter direkt über uns beobachten konnten. Greta hat uns Tipps gegeben, sogar mitten in der Nacht, dass Nordlichter zu sehen seien. Sie war super freundlich und die Abwicklung war top. Wir können das Haus sehr empfehlen, da kann man wirklich abschalten. Es ist alles da was man braucht. Vielen Dank Greta! Familie Hubatschek

sehr schöne Unterkunft

Das Haus mit einem wunderschönen Ausblick ist sehr sauber und perfekt ausgestattet. Die lange Anfahrt mit teilweise Schotterpiste (gut ausgebaut) kann mit Kleinwagen gut befahren werden. 90 Stufen zum Haus sind zwar ungewohnt, aber der Aufstieg lohnt sich. Wir haben uns in dem Haus sehr wohl gefühlt.

Fantastisk udsigt, feriebolig trænger til en kærlig hånd

Selve ferieboligen og inventaret var af noget ældre dato og køkken service var skåret og utæt. Vandvarmeren er on/off ude af drift og til trods for besøg af ejeren gik den ud igen....årsag den måtte ikke skrues højere op end II, hvilket vi nærmest burde have vidst. Der mangler i den grad skabsplads/opbevaringsplads til lejerens tøj. I beskrivelsen står at de netop har bygget deres private Hot Top, hvilket ihvertfald var rigtig godt gemt. Der var en bygning til hot top, hvor der hang noget der lignede til tørre, så her bør beskrivelsen tilpasses til den nu også er klar. Der er mange trapper op til ferieboligen og beplantning langs trappen er nærmest vokset ind over så adgangsvejen er noget ufremkommelig. Der lugtede af enten fugt eller også var der nogen, som havde tisset i tæppet under sofabordet, hvilket ikke var særlig lækkert da mit barnebarn på knap 6 måneder lå og lejede på gulvet. På positiv siden er der en fantastisk udsigt over Skorradalsvatn. Alt i alt synes vi det var en alt for høj pris at betale for en feriebolig i mindre god stand.

Ein wunderbares Häuschen

Wir haben hier eine erlebnisreiche Woche verbracht und es fehlte uns an nichts. Sehr gemütliches, sauberes Haus mit freundlichen Vermietern. Der Blick von der Terrasse über den See ist traumhaft. Von den vielen Stufen sollte man sich keinesfalls abschrecken lassen, der Blick und die Ruhe belohnen. Der Plattenspieler wurde von uns rege genutzt - mit vielen Erinnerungen an "alte Zeiten". Ferngläser stehen auch bereit und die Ruhe rundherum ist herrlich. Wir können das Haus nur weiterempfehlen!

Amazing stay!

We had an amazing time in Greta's cottage! It's very cute, situated at the end of a lake a 30 minutes from Borgarnes. We'd recommend this place to everyone who's looking for a nice place to stay in Iceland and we'd come back anytime!
