Willow cabin was a perfect fit for us (3 adults and 1 dog). Located on ancestral property, we are so glad we have Watauga River Cabins as rental options when we are visiting “back home”. At the time of our 5 night stay the cabin had been recently built and almost everything in it was brand new. Sitting on somewhat of a cliff (caution necessary) overlooking a 90 degree bend of the Watauga river, the cabin must provide one of the best views of any publicly available rental cabin on the river. The sliding glass doors of the master bedroom rewards the early riser with the sights and sounds of nature. The view from the kitchen window encourages one to choose handwashing dishes even though the modern dishwasher is conveniently at hand. The views from the inside simply “demand” that occupants “live” on the full length covered back porch, which welcomes with an outdoor dining table to one end and plenty of comfortable seating options on the other. Take a good book and your morning coffee and you may be content there for the rest of the day. Just a few easy steps off the porch is the perfect campfire setting and a few more steps lead to a covered outdoor grill providing a glimpse of the century old site of the historic Smalling bridge just upstream from the cabin. Rolling pasture land in the distance offers a pleasant view from the living room windows and parking area. Access to the river was not available at the time of our stay. Area attractions are plentiful. Highly recommend!

We found our home away from home when we visit Johnson City! We come to TN a few times a year to see family and this is our new spot! It’s so well thought out. Every need you have is met. All the details have been thought through from a clothes steamer, to fans, to extra blankets, etc! It’s a perfect layout. The back porch has full shade all day and is a perfect place for relaxing. The sound of the river running mixed with all the birds chirping is priceless. The fire pit has a great space to spread out. It feels very private and safe. It’s definitely clean and you feel like you’re somewhere special. The owners are great to work with and you can tell they put a lot of thought into building this cabin. It’s honestly perfect. We will be back!!

Meet Your Hosts: Annette & Buddy

Hi there! We’re Annette and Buddy, both retired educators from the beautiful state of Florida. After spending decades in education, we now enjoy a slower pace of life filled with outdoor adventures, travel, and spending time with family.

We first discovered this area in 2018 and quickly fell in love with its natural beauty, peaceful surroundings, and welcoming community. It became our go-to escape, and eventually, we decided to build a cabin here — a cozy getaway we could enjoy ourselves and share with others when we're back in Florida.

As your hosts, we’re committed to providing a clean, comfortable, and relaxing space where you can unwind, explore, and make memories. Whether you're here to fish, hike, relax, or simply disconnect, we hope you enjoy the cabin as much as we do.

Welcome — we’re so glad you’re here!

Why they chose this property

Our cabin sits right on the beautiful Watauga River, offering peaceful, riverfront views that change with the seasons. One of our favorite ways to spend the day is kayaking or simply relaxing on the porch, watching the river roll by. For those interested in fishing, the Watauga is known for its excellent trout waters. We can suggest local fishing guides, as access and regulations are specific to this area. In the evenings, there's nothing better than unwinding outside and taking in the sights and sounds of nature.

While the setting feels tucked away and serene, we love that downtown Johnson City is just 10 minutes down the road — giving us the best of both worlds. You'll find great restaurants, shopping, live music, and all the amenities of a vibrant city. The area is also home to excellent medical facilities, major universities like ETSU, and with the Tri-Cities Airport just 30 minutes away, it’s easy to get here and start enjoying your stay.

What makes this property unique

Willow Cabin is our newly built, cottage-style retreat, just completed in August 2025. Located approximately 300 yards from the main complex, it offers a peaceful sense of privacy while still being conveniently close to everything you might need.

This quaint riverside cabin was designed with comfort, charm, and outdoor living in mind. It features a spacious back porch overlooking the Watauga River — perfect for sipping your morning coffee, watching the water flow by, or simply unwinding in the fresh mountain air. You'll also enjoy a dedicated cook shack for outdoor meals and a cozy firepit area, ideal for evenings under the stars.

Willow Cabin blends rustic charm with modern comfort, providing a quiet escape just 10 minutes from downtown Johnson City. Whether you're here for adventure or relaxation, we think you'll find it's the kind of place that feels like home the moment you arrive.
