About this property

CAPE CABIN: a unique coastal family retreat

Cape Cabin is an original mud brick + timber A-frame home set in a quiet residential pocket of a wild and rugged coastal nature reserve...
A considered space of relaxation and delight for up to 8 guests but equally as nice as a cosy escape for 4.

With direct beach access immediately outside our gate and views overlooking Bass Strait and Cape Woolamai nature reserve, the property boasts a fully enclosed, established private garden with a timber children’s playground and multiple entertaining areas both indoors + out.

Our established native garden is a haven for birds, wildlife and nature lovers all year round. We regularly see wallabies, sea eagles, rainbow lorikeets and echidnas from the vantage point of our upstairs lounge and deck and regardless of the size of your group, you will find many quiet nooks throughout the property to sit and relax and listen to the soft chatter of birds in the canopy of large native trees that surround the property.

The house itself is a little bit magical... its handcrafted character and carefully curated mix of old and new give it a sense of space and cosiness in just the right measures. Although it has recently been painted and lovingly refurbished with all the comforts you will need for a relaxing adventure with family and friends, it still retains all of its original rustic whimsy and charm.

Bedding, quality linen and towels are supplied for all guests and the house is fully equipped to comfortably accommodate up to 9 people. As Cape Cabin has been designed as a family retreat, we would prefer to restrict the number of adults to the private bedrooms with Queen sized beds (6) - please contact us to discuss your circumstances if your group exceeds this number of adults. Any approved guests beyond the initial 6 are charged at an additional nightly rate of 50.00 per person.

Winter road trip
We absolutely loved our stay in Cape Cabin! We had been planning our road trip from Sydney NSW since April and there were a few days that we weren’t sure if we were actually going to be able make it due to the Victorian lockdown. Thankfully all the stars aligned and we got there! The cabin is just so gorgeous and welcoming with no detail overlooked. We felt so comfortable and had the best sleeps since our road trip began. The location is just incredible. The beach, even in Winter, a place for hours of enjoyment- not to mention the most incredibly stunning sunsets! One good thing about not being able to travel overseas is exploring more of our own country. We fell in love with Phillip Island! Thank you Jacqueline for opening your home to us. We will be back!

Wonderful family getaway
This is a gorgeous property at a special spot. Jacqueline has created a slice of heaven. You won’t want to leave the house! My 2 year old son loved all the toys, the slide in the garden and playing at the beach across the road. The best appointed holiday home we’ve ever stayed in! Jacqueline was also super helpful with tips for things to do.

Gorgeous!
Amazing house - even better than pictures! Very close to spectacular beach which we had mostly to ourselves mid week in winter. Communication with Jacqueline was fantastic and we felt genuinely welcome in her home. Many thanks, can't wait to stay again.

Relaxing Family Weekend
Our Cape Cabin experience was everything we envisaged. The Cape Cabin immediate outside environment was private, treed and perfectly zoned for recreational activities, entertaining and parking. Within close proximity to the coast, walks, bike riding and visiting a cafe for a coffee was easily accessible and enjoyed by our family of eight adults. Inside Cape Cabin is truly captivating, with beautifully appointed living and bedroom spaces, which exude delightful charm with tasteful soft furnishings, aromatic products, linen of natural fibres. We couldn't have been more impressed. Additionally delighted with the complimentary culinary indulgences on arrival! Ideal setting to come together as a family, enjoy each other's company, create and share dining in the excellently fitted out kitchen space and relax by the fire. Comfortable and spacious for all. The intentions of Jacqueline and her team to provide a five star experience was most evident, from the time of booking to departure, no request too small and attention to detail was second to none. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay. We have shared our experience with friends and will definitely recommend your property to others, we would love to return.

A very special place for a family break
We booked into Cape Cabin for a special family anniversary and it was better than we could have hoped. Our two boys are 5 and 8, so finding somewhere to suit all of us was key for four days away. The little details and the way the house is presented is honestly perfect and really thoughtful. It's a kids paradise, and Jacqueline has filled it with incredible games, toys, hundreds of books and ideas for play, both inside and out. We loved the environmentally friendly, luxurious natural bath products, the well-equipped kitchen (we ended up mostly cooking in as it was so nice to be there we didn't want to go out to eat), the SONOS sound system, the VERY comfortable beds, just everything really. The upstairs room was everybody's favourite. We also loved how close it was to the beach - both for hearing the ocean and feeling the sea breeze around home, and also for walking easily down the pathway and steps to the beach and the rock pools every day. An echidna snuffled around in front of us one evening and the kids loved it. When we did venture out (to the Penguin Parade, an 8km loop of the Cape Woolamai walk, feeding the pelicans and some lovely coffees) we really appreciated having such a special place to come back to. We will be back, and recommend wholeheartedly if you want a truly special place to stay on Phillip Island. Thank you Jacqueline and family. x

We are an Australian creative family of 5 with a passion for architecture, design, food, surf travel and nature. Cape Cabin was our gigantic labour of love... lovingly restored and styled by our family for yours.

Why they chose this property

Cape Cabin is a space of whimsy and surprise that took hold of our heart strings from the moment we saw it. It is a haven away from our urban reality, surrounded by nature and overflowing with details that make our hearts sing.
This is our happy place.. we hope it will become yours too!
