About the host
Hosted by Cheryl Rubenstein
We are a family run business. My husband and I are retired and we host this home (which is part of property in Ware) and another home we own in Brimfield. Hosting helps pay our mortgages and keep us financially independent. It also motivates us to be up and about rather than being couch potatoes in our older years. I am 69 and my husband is 67. We do all the cleaning, maintenance and general upkeep of the homes. We hope that the properties will be our legacy to our children some day.
Why they chose this property
We are originally from Massachusetts and moved back 4 years ago. We spent 6 years in Florida prior to moving back. We are born and breed New Englanders and missed it so much we came back. When we found this property with an inlaw apt above the main house (our oldest is on the spectrum and it was a prefect place for him to be semi-independent) and the little barn house nextdoor was a great oppurtunity for us to earn income, we knew it would be perfect for us. We have over 3 acres of land butted by state forests which means we are often visited by deer, wild turkeys, possum, bunnies, porcupines and lots of birds. It is a beautiful peaceful home and we love living here.
What makes this property unique
Many years ago our little home was originally a barn and retains that barn house style on the outside. In the 70's the previous owner of our main house converted it for his daughter and grandson into a 2 bedroom home. We have continued with the barn/woodland theme throughout the house while make several major upgrades. We have added new flooring, a new minisplit heating/ac system, new hot water tank and remodeled the bathroom. But, I think the beauty of the home is it's setting. It is surrounded by woodlands and abuts a state forest so many guest have had the opportunity to see a host of native wild animals while enjoying their morning coffee on our back deck. While others have marveled at how clear the night sky is while sitting around the fire pit. Overall the atmosphere is a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life and a prefect opportunity to enjoy both the setting and the time spent with family and friends.
