About this property

Lakefront Cottage Near Lake MI & Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park

Relax at our family cottage near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The cottage is located on Little Platte Lake, ideal for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. Winter activities include ice fishing, snow showing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing. We are located on a private bay, directly across from The Medenbrook Nature Preserve where you have unobstructed views of the tree line.

The cottage is located on a private road in a quiet community, but close enough to all that northwestern Michigan has to offer. Explore the beaches and hiking trails of the National Lakeshore, or take a trip up to Traverse City for shopping, restaurants, art, and music. The charming towns of Beulah, Empire, Frankfort, and Glen Arbor are within 10-20 minutes of the cottage.

If you enjoy fishing and boating, the Little Platte Lake boat launch is a few minutes out the drive on Saffron Road. You can also launch at nearby Platte Point to access Lake Michigan. Launch one of our two kayaks, directly from our 100 feet of private shore line.

With 2 beds and a queen sleeper sofa, there are a variety of sleeping options. If you like to cook, a gas range and charcoal barbecue are available for your use. You can also try your open fire cooking skills over a bonfire near the lake. The kitchen is well equipped, however we don’t have a microwave at this time.

If you want to unplug during your time away, we keep a variety of board games and books in the cupboards. The spacious yard is great for outdoor games.

Please note that we strive to use environmentally friendly cleaning products and encourage our guests to do the same in order to preserve our lakeside habitat.

I enjoyed everything about this cabin. It was located right on Little Platte and we made good use of the back deck and the kayaks. Clean and well cared for. Very close to some of the best beaches in Sleeping Bear and easy drive to most places in the area. We would love to come back and stay in this cabin again!

My wife, 1y/o and I stayed here and could not have been happier. The house itself is clean, well-kept, and we loved the craftsman style as well as the peaceful lake. The mattresses were also the most comfortable we've slept in in a rental or hotel. We will definitely be returning!

Great location for Sleeping Bear Dunes. The views from cabin of the lake are terrific. Had beautiful sunrise and caught a swan couple during my stay.Disappointed in shower..very small corner unit. Second bedroom bed very low to floor so anyone with mobility issues this would be a challenge. Kitchen lacks a toaster and microwave two items most people use. No paper towels were provided. Limited eating establishments in the local town.

Perfect weeklong getaway

Relaxed, serene location for a nature getaway. Enjoyed the lake and stars from the yard (light pollution was not an issue)! Very close to Sleeping Bear and plenty of other locations so that day excursions for hikes, beaches, parks, and towns were easy and enjoyable. The entire area is gorgeous and well worth the trip!The bed was very comfortable and the host had great communication as well. I mostly was unplugged but did take a few work calls with no issue.I would definitely rebook upon my return to the area!!

We had a wonderful time at this cozy ,clean cottage with the amazing view over the lake. Very close to everything we wanted to do and see in the area. The cottage was well equipped, clean and as pictured( only the deck could need some restoration). Our family enjoyed sitting by the fire at night, grilling, fishing ,exploring the area....We definitely would stay here again.

Such a small cute house it’s on the lake. Lots of ducks, an otter and 2 swans. It’s in a wooded area. We must have seen 30 deer on the way there. The owners are very kind, professional and helpful. They quickly responded when I had questions.We will be back

Nice quiet retreat

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the property. Property is in good repair and trimmed well. Beds are newer and comfortable, solid oak wood trim around double hung jeld-wen windows which match the 3 panel doors, larger picture windows for lake view. Forced air heat for cooler weather, it does not seem drafty. Newer gas range. New large composite lake side deck. This is a comfortable place to stay and enjoy the region. I would say this would be good lodging for 4. It has a king and queen bed, 3 seat couch and a living room chair plus 4 wooden seat dinette table. I'll say that they keep this place up better than a lot of other friends cabins I've been to. Thanks!!

Peace and quiet!!

Although the weather didn’t cooperate, we enjoyed our stay at your place! It was centrally located to the other cities we'd plan to visit. With the weather, we found ourselves being inside more than normal. The living room furniture could use some attention. The queen bed was very nice. The shower needs some TLC too…hardly any water would come out at all.

Quiet Getaway

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. We came during off season and it was perfect for us because we liked the seclusion and privacy. The cabin had everything we needed in the kitchen and very nice fluffy bath towels. The shower pressure wasn't great and the shower/toilet layout in general is kind of awkward for the space but we knew that going into it with the pictures. The sunrises were beautiful to watch in the morning with a cup of coffee. Only improvements would be to the keypad deadbolt lock. The deadbolt sticks and can be difficult to lock & unlock. Also, I'd suggest hiding a spare set of keys somewhere on the property because the battery on the deadbolt died while we were out and we ended up having to crawl through a window accidentally left unlocked to get inside. The owner was very quick to respond to this issue via text message.

Winter Getaway

It was a great little cabin on a pretty lake. We spent a lot of time ice skating on Little Platte Lake. Very quiet location and great mix of winter outdoors and cozy cabin life. Queen bed for my wife and I that shared a large bathroom with kids room (two double beds) on other side of cabin. It was very clean and everything was operational. Lots of kitchen utencils and good amount of spices as wrll. The location is ideal, just south of Leelanau and all its wonders. It was about 10 minutes south of Empire, and the bluff hike there is magnificent. We had dinner at local breweries/distilleries. It's close to Iron Fish distillery, St. Ambrose Cellars, and others. About 20 minutes South of Sleeping Bear too. Great place and great time. We'll definitely be back!

David and I are originally from metro Detroit, but we now call Mendocino, California our home. As a couple, we enjoy gardening, hiking, cooking, discovering new music, and the company of good friends. David loves to surf and disk golf. I enjoy hiking, reading, and tuning into nature.

Both David and I share warm memories of traveling 'up north' as kids. It is our intention to make the cottage a warm and inviting place where others can explore the bounty of Northwest Michigan.

Why they chose this property

My grandfather bought the property in 1989, and then we inherited the cottage from my father when he passed in 2011. We have since put a lot of tlc into the space, but there is always a project! The area has grown tremendously over the years, but Sylvan Point and Little Platte are a quiet nook during the busy summer months.

What makes this property unique

In addition to the dunes, the cottage is a terrific jumping off point to exploring the charm of the nearby towns of Beulah, Frankfort, Empire, and Glen Arbor. Downtown Traverse City is 40 minutes north where you can take a break from the beach and access movie theaters, fine dining, galleries, breweries, and shops.
