About this property
Duvall House - George Washington ate here! In the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
An 18th Century Landmark, the subject of books, accolades and tours through the centuries.
In the heart of Old Town Alexandria, George Washington was literally celebrated here in 1783 upon his triumphant return home to Mount Vernon following his victory over the British monarchy in the Revolutionary War. A party of epic proportions, including a 13 cannon salute in adjacent Market Square (now home to City Hall) was hosted at William Duvall’s Tavern to honor the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.
Please visit our Facebook page by searching on “Duvall House” to discover more on the amazing provenance of this historically significant property.
Originally home to Duvall's Tavern; also served as the 1st Bank of Alexandria. Once the residence of Charles Lee, 3rd Attorney General, it has been restored to its original glory. High ceilings, chandeliers, archways, bright and airy floor plan, walled garden, and modern conveniences. Replete with antiques and original art!
Host your wedding, shower, reunion, or other special occasion!!! Inquire about event fees, catering and rental services. Separate contract and security deposit required depending on the size and scope of the affair.
Just over 4,000 sq-ft with 12 total rooms - double parlor, office, and den on first floor; kitchen, dining room, and expansive (450 sq-ft), front-to-back ballroom on 2nd floor.
One spacious bedroom on the 1st floor, two on 3rd - each featuring a private, full en-suite bathroom. 4 queen size beds in total. Option to set up the ballroom with 1 or 2 queen-size air mattresses as well.
Top-rated, Baby Europa crib available for our guests’ use, including linens. Suitable for infants and toddlers. Please advise in advance how you would prefer it configured and in which room set up.
Guests have complete access to the entire house. Make yourself at home! Do note that we store/stack tables and chairs in the 2nd floor ballroom, to avoid potential damage to the staircase that could occur if we constantly bring them up and down before/after special events.
Keyless entry (unique code provided on arrival).
Owners live locally and are available to address any needs by text or email as they arise. Let us know if you would like any pre-stocking of food, wine, or other special requests upon your arrival.
Old Town Alexandria is a historic seaport and a peaceful village just a few miles from downtown DC. The local amenities are plentiful and the access to downtown Washington is a cinch. Some of the best restaurants in the National Capital Region are just around the corner. If you are into live music, theater, or art galleries, there are several venues within walking distance.
Duvall House is just two blocks from the Potomac River boardwalk which features a water taxi to Georgetown, the Wharf, National Harbor and MGM Casino, and the Washington Nats ballpark.
Located directly across from the front entrance to historic Alexandria City Hall, adjacent to iconic Ivy Lane, and just steps from dozens of shops and restaurants.
Free King Street trolley to D.C.- area metro, Uber/Lyft service, scooters, and rental bikes readily available. Best walking conditions on the planet!
The several photos depicting George Washington visiting Duvall House are the work of the official interpreter of the General for the City of Alexandria - Brian Hilton. Brian is available for hire for our guests for up to 3 hours. He is a professional historian and the experience is one of a kind and highly recommended!!!
Public parking on same block under Alexandria City Hall Plaza as well as other local lots. Following is a link to all available public parking facilities in Old Town including hours, rates, and contact information.

Prospective guests are asked to keep in mind that this home is nearly 250 years old and so it has its quirks and nuances. There are a couple of very low doorways and so those over 6 feet need to be cautious and aware of those. Likewise, the bedrooms on the 3rd floor have sloped ceilings and so be mindful when standing up in the gables. Lastly, we maintain a monthly comprehensive professional pest service, but on rare occasions you may encounter a bug or even a mouse (particularly in the Winter as they escape the cold). We have had zero negative experiences and/or reviews in more than four years of hosting, but want to be entirely truthful and transparent to our visitors who may be sensitive to such things.
