About this property
Tuscany Country House in Central Chianti Wine Country, Amazing Panoramic Views
Tour (no spaces) www. escapetochianti. com/experience
The location is fantastic and a perfect central base in Tuscany! Our spacious, historic artist-inspired stone farmhouse house is only minutes to top restaurants & Chianti hill towns; an easy drive to Florence & Siena; an ideal location for day trips to all parts of Tuscany.
Our farmhouse is part of a small rustic hamlet--sharing the hillside and nestled together with three surrounding buildings of other owners. The house overlooks the town of Lucarelli, vineyards and villas, Castello Monterinadi, and the iconic Villa Pesanella. We are located between the famed Chianti towns of Radda in Chianti and Panzano in Chianti.
Inside the ancient stone walls of the farmhouse, you’ll find three artist-designed bedrooms with comfortable, high-quality queen beds in two of the rooms, and a third with a king size bed that can be converted to a split twin; a large central living room with a cathedral ceiling and original rough-hewn wood rafters, terracotta tile, windows opening out over beautiful views, a huge stone fireplace, a well-stocked modern kitchen with cooking utensils and pans, dishes, dishwasher, table linens, and a large wood Tuscan table seating ten; a large bathroom with a tiled shower and “Idea Toscana” luxury olive oil soap, shampoo and conditioner; outdoor dining area, lounge area; a small breakfast balcony with beautiful valley and hillside views. WiFi internet access is available inside the house in the main room and outside near the house. Vistas from many of the windows look like a painting. The house is flanked by eleven giant cypresses, hundreds of years old.
*NEW*
We now offer an optional additional bedroom, second bathroom with tub, kitchenette, and living room on the home's lower floor which allows you to add up to 2 persons (for an extra charge). Please ask.
You will love the friendly local people in the nearby towns, and learn about the fascinating cultural history of the area. There are dozens of local restaurants with excellent food and stellar wineries within minutes. You can visit the cobbled streets of the local medieval towns and take a day to visit each of the great cities of Florence and Siena with world class museums, historic sites, and cosmopolitan elegance. Enter the world of the Medici Renaissance and take a trip back in time through the history of art and architecture.
Each day you’ll wake up to the birds singing and, on your morning walk or run along the vineyard roads, be sure to grab a cappuccino made for you by Alessio and Martina at the Trattoria at the bottom of our hill. Then visit one of the local regional markets, and cook up a delicious meal at the farmhouse. Lunch is also served at the friendly Trattoria (two minute drive) or the award winning Michelin rated Osteria Le Panzanelle (five-minute drive).
Pick up seasonal Tuscan produce, prosciutto and pesto in Radda at the gourmet grocer “Porciati Alimentari” or the local COOP and make your own dinner to enjoy al fresco by sun or candlelight on the balcony or in the patio garden on the spacious harvest table.
Our library is stocked with books about Italy, Tuscany, Chianti history, Italian novels (in English), art books, architecture books and cookbooks. Please browse and enjoy. We also invite you to explore making art and have provided art materials for you to use. We have a chess set and puzzles as well.
The local Chianti wine culture and its fascinating history is all around you at Vignale. The hyper local Monterinaldi Winery at the bottom of our drive has a great tasting room for wine and EVOO olive oil and we recommend the wine-paired lunch made by Margarette. We also recommend Borgo Salcetino and Molina di Grace our other wonderful neighbor wineries. Within 10 kilometers, there are more than 50 top DOCG Chianti Classico wineries of “Gallo Nero” fame in the towns of Radda, Greve, Panzano, Castellina and Gaiole. Our house Manual has a list of our personal favorite recommendations for local wineries and restaurants. Also, we can help you book an Italian cooking class with our friend Cristina, who will teach you how to make Tuscan cuisine paired with her wonderful wines in her vineyard hotel.
Other things to do: In Radda, there is a great Chianti Classico Museum and restaurant with lots of information about the region. You can rent e-bikes in nearby Greve and ride a loop through Lamole, Radda, Panzano and back with incredible vistas and towns that look like a Renaissance painting.
Day trips: Vignale is perfect for day trips to many of Tuscany’s best destinations. You can easily travel to these destinations each day of your stay.
Florence: From Vignale you can drive to Florence in 50 minutes, park close to the historic center and walk 15 mins to the heart of the city with the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery. Florence is one of the most spectacular walking cities anywhere in the world and legendary for art, history, shopping and food.
The famous town of San Gimignano with its medieval towers is a 45 mins drive away along scenic roads. The fascinating town of Volterra with its Etruscan museum is along the way.
The historic city of Siena: about 30 minutes drive to the south with its ancient winding streets, museums, the Duomo di Siena cathedral, palazzos, incredible restaurants and the historic Piazza de Campo (home to the annual Palio horse race).
Pisa is another great day trip and is much more than just the famous Leaning Tower but also a beautiful old walled city. Not far from Pisa is Lucca, one of Tuscany's top rated destinations just 3 hours northwest from Vignale.
Many of our guests enjoy a trip towards the southwest and the Val d' Orcia with its picture postcard Tuscan rolling hills. This journey unfolds along parts of the legendary "Chiantigiana" road SP 222, which leads to the renowned vineyards of Montalcino and the home of one of Italy's greatest wines, Brunello di Montalcino. Pienza is another picturesque stop on this trip.
Guest access
All rooms of the Main House and our large gravel pebble patio in front of the entrance, as well as the flagstone area below our brick balcony, are for your exclusive outdoor seating use. Our three adjacent neighbors have their own patio spaces assigned to them for their exclusive use.
Other things to note:
The Vignale hamlet is quiet and has a peaceful and private feeling. We all respect the privacy of each other.
Italian law prohibits renting this property for parties. Parties and events are strictly prohibited.
Staying cool: In hot weather, from the middle of July through August, you can use the fans provided in each bedroom. We do not have air conditioning, but the cool afternoon breezes from the Pesa valley as well as the thick stone walls keep the house inside cool. On hot days, if needed, close the wooden shutters during the middle of the day, then open them to catch the afternoon breeze.
