“La Dolce Vita”
My wife and I stayed for a week at Il Diaccino, a charming villa on the Podere Ciona estate. We had a delightful stay and the Gatteschi family were amazing hosts! The accommodations were outstanding. The cottage is situated on a hill overlooking olive trees and offers stunning vistas of the countryside. It was tastefully decorated and had a beautiful patio area to enjoy our morning coffee. Just a short walk away, through a wooded path was a spacious pool. It was an oasis to enjoy on a hot day after touring the beautiful villages surrounding our villa. Anna was a terrific resource for us! She was quick to respond to our inquiries and helped us with restaurant reservations. Lorenzo was a very gracious host. As we made our way to his parents home (to attend a cooking class with his mother & aunt), he took the time from his busy day to walk us through part of his vineyard and explained the harvesting process. It was fantastic! The cooking class with Franca and Mimma was the absolute highlight of our entire trip to Tuscany! We were warmly greeted by these two amazing sister chefs as if we were members of the family. The experience that we had was truly memorable. It was just the two of us in Franca’s kitchen getting a personal lesson by chefs that had traveled the world teaching Italian cuisine. We shared a lot of laughs and they treated us to a delicious five-course meal! We fell in love with Tuscany and our wonderful hosts! We can’t wait to visit again soon!

not a good idea after September as the owners say 'out of season'
To start with the positives, the property location is beautiful with a lovely view over olive groves. Tuscany is beautiful and we loved the area. Unfortunately the lows are the following and very unfortunate when you travel from Australia and you can only go by what is advertised and said. When we arrived it was as though we were completely unexpected with one of the hosts going to the phone stating "someone is here'. The older lady comes and says its the middle of harvest so no one to meet us. she lets us in the villa with her keys but immediately said we could not take the cover off the pool as 'out of season' when no one wants to swim. It is unseasonally hot in Italy and we only searched for villas with pools; so it was so dissappointing for a 7 day stay to not be able to use it at all when it was there next to the villa. We were told 'the brother would come to see us after harvest' which would have been fine but he did not come for another 24 hours. in the meantime we had no heating, no instruction if we could use the fire, no cover on the one and only doona and the 'double bed' is two single beds with two separate bed frames pushed together. The evenings are cold so we were cold too. When he arrived the next evening for the first time he brought some wood for the fire and another blanket. And that was it. We did not see our hosts or even get one restaurant recommedation for the rest of the trip. We left early and found new accomodation where we could swim and welcoming, friendly hosts.

Relaxed Rural Setting
We have traveled all through Italy previously and this time wanted to stay a week in one place. This is a wonderful place to do this! Very quiet and relaxingly peaceful. It was harvest time so saw grapes being collected and that was a first for us. The trees also were full of olives. We ventured out for part of most days to Radda, Siena etc. Owners were very pleasant and helpful!

Fabulous property, wonderful family owners, terrific winery. Couldn’t be better.
We’ve rented other properties in Chianti and Umbria, but this topped hopes and expectations. Very spacious accommodations with chairs and dishware for home-made feasts. Lovely towns like Gaiole, Radda, Greve, Panzano, and Castellina within 40 minutes drive on winding roads. Castles, abbys, and sculpture parks nearby. Siena about an hour, Montalcino and Pienza 1.5 hours drive. Trains from nearby Montevarchi mean Florence and Rome are approachable. But relaxing at the villa and enjoying a wine tasting and tour of the cellar is perfetto, too.
