Getting There & Access
Smoky Mountain Roads — The cabin is situated at over 2,000 feet in elevation, which means the roads leading up are gently winding with some moderate to occasionally steep inclines and a few switchbacks, typical for much of the Smoky Mountains.
The driveway has a similar moderate incline, but it is fully paved and offers space for up to three vehicles.
While AWD, SUVs, or trucks provide the easiest drive, standard passenger vehicles handle both the area roads and the driveway just fine. Very low-clearance vehicles should take it slow, but overall access is relatively easy and shouldn’t be a concern for most guests.
Wildlife Awareness
You are staying in active bear territory. Bears will get into unlocked vehicles, so please keep all vehicles locked at all times. If traveling with children, please supervise them closely to help ensure everyone’s safety.

About the host
Hosted by Derek Halkett
We’re Derek and Samantha, creators of The Nord Pine—a Scandinavian-inspired A-frame tucked into the peaceful Smoky Mountains, which we’ve proudly called home for the past decade. “Nord” comes from the Old Norse word for north and reflects our New England roots near Boston, where crisp air, tall pines, and quiet landscapes shaped us.
We designed this cabin to bring that same northern simplicity and mountain stillness to Tennessee, blending modern comfort with a place to slow down, unwind, and explore. We genuinely enjoy hosting and want every guest to feel relaxed, welcome, and well cared for throughout their stay.

Why they chose this property
We chose this neighborhood for its quiet mountain setting and the balance it strikes between privacy and convenience. Ash Pass sits just far enough from the main routes to feel peaceful and tucked away, yet it’s only a short drive to the best of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and the Smoky Mountains.
What we enjoy most is the natural calm of the area—the trees, the clean mountain air, and the sense of being surrounded by nature without feeling isolated. It’s the kind of place where mornings are slow, evenings are quiet, and you can step right into relaxation the moment you arrive. It’s an ideal base for exploring the parks, hiking trails, and scenic overlooks, or simply unwinding and enjoying the mountain atmosphere.
