The Neighborhood:
The Oyster House sits directly on East State Route 106 in Union, Washington, a peaceful and scenic waterfront stretch along Hood Canal known for calm paddling waters, breathtaking Olympic Mountain views, and abundant wildlife. From the deck and dock you can often spot seals, otters, eagles, herons, and occasionally even orcas. Union is a small, welcoming community with great food, local shops, outdoor adventures, and classic Pacific Northwest charm.
Union Attractions
You’re just a few minutes from the award winning Alderbrook Resort & Spa, the Alderbrook/Union Marina (with boat launch), the Alderbrook Golf Course, and the historic Robin Hood Village Resort. Union also offers boutique shops, cozy cafés, wine tasting, and the beloved Union Country Store, home to incredible Olympic Mountain Ice Cream.
While these spots are an easy drive, many guests prefer to paddle over using one of the kayaks, SUPs, or the aluminum rowboat. Alderbrook and the Marina offer places to tie up or pull onto the beach, making a scenic paddle a fun alternative to driving. In warmer months, you’ll often find live music throughout Union, especially around Alderbrook and local venues.
Hiking
The area surrounding Union is an outdoor paradise. The nearest hike is at Twanoh State Park, where a forested trail follows a salmon-filled stream in late fall and winds gently up and down the mountain through lush old growth forest. Further along Highway 101 and Skokomish River Road, you’ll find a wide variety of hikes for all ages and skill levels: river trails, lake loops, moss covered forests, and rugged backcountry routes.
For spectacular all season hiking, the Staircase entrance of Olympic National Park is about 40 to 45 minutes away and offers riverside trails, suspension bridges, and classic Pacific Northwest views.
Near Union
The neighboring town of Hoodsport is only 10 to 12 minutes by car (or a scenic boat ride from your dock — they have tie ups available). Though small, Hoodsport offers several restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, a grocery store, and wine tasting rooms.
A short drive further north brings you to the iconic Hama Hama Oyster Saloon, a must visit for oyster lovers. Enjoy both raw and cooked preparations, local dishes, outdoor seating with sweeping views, and a well stocked shop featuring oysters, sauces, smoked salmon, and other local treasures to take home.
Continuing north along Hwy 101 brings you deeper into the Olympic Peninsula, with endless hiking, lake access, viewpoints, and wilderness exploration.
Getting Around:
We recommend rental cars or personal vehicles as Uber and Lyft may be limited or unavailable in these areas.
Other Things to Note:
- Driveway entry is tight, so plan to arrive slowly and carefully in larger vehicles.
- Stand up paddleboards and kayaks are provided for guest use. Please use them at your own risk and always wear a life jacket (provided).
- Given the waterfront setting, families should closely supervise children at all times.

-This home has an Xbox 360 that has a Kinect system hooked up. The Kinect system is a motion tracking system that can monitor your movements and allow you to move characters and play in certain games. This does require a camera, however that camera is:
1) Only active when the game is on
2) Does not record
3)Cannot be accessed remotely and is only a part of the xbox system.
If you wish to disable the camera, you can simply unplug the kinect from the xbox. If you unplug the Kinect, please place it in the cabinet near the xbox so it does not get misplaced.
-The dock is shared with the neighbors, and can only accommodate a boat up to 30' in length.

We spent a few days over the Thanksgiving holiday with family ranging from 9 to 75. Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying this amazing home and all the spectacular available amenities.
We had a wonderful time at this very well-equipped house--lots of swimming, local hiking, paddle-boarding and kayaking. The game room was very fun too and everyone in our group found it just perfect.
Everything about the place. From host yo amenities. Very nice view, kind of cold to go outside but we luck out with nice weather for this time of the year. I thank David for his flexibility and details on the instructions for us to get there safe and enjoy our family reunion. Our family is Vietnamese and we use chopsticks for eating which one thing that’s not available at the place. If we are going out there next time we’ll bring chopsticks to add to the utensils drawer. Thank you for everything.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was perfect for our large family. The dock allowed us to take our boat and not have to worry about tide change. The grandkids tubed, fished and played in the water. The water toys, game room and hot tub were a hit with all. The deck had plenty of space for the family to hang out. The house had great sleeping arrangements and bathrooms. We found everything we needed in the well equipped kitchen. An overall fabulous stay. We cannot wait to return.
We had a wonderful stay at this very well-appointed and spacious home! The host gave very detailed instructions with easy check-in. This house and location were perfect for our family. We enjoyed all the activities the house had to offer. We cooked, explored, hiked, and relaxed! Wildlife sightings every day. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We would not hesitate to return!
Beautiful property right on the water. Lots of room to relax, cook and craft! It was a perfect winter getaway. Dave and Katie are wonderful hosts and very helpful. Would go back again!
Our family of 10 thoroughly loved our time on Hood Canal while staying at this beautiful, family friendly home.
