About this property

2 Bedroom, second row beach cottage .

Come join us. Our 800 square foot beach cottage offers a peaceful place to relax or a nice play to stay while you are here for some quiet relaxation at the spacious beach or for some fishing.

Built in 2013, our cottage is nestled among trees for additional privacy, but you can easily walk from our second row home to the beach (with miles of white sandy beach) or to the ferry to spend a day on Ocracoke.

Just beyond the ferry is a boat launch where you can launch your boat at no charge and it is next to another long stretch of beach. Cedar Island has sounds, bays and marshes to explore, so it's a great place to do some fishing and hunting in season. Local fishing and hunting guide services (in season) are available.

The cottage has a downstairs bedroom with 3 twin beds and upstairs features 1 queen bed. And with the queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room, our cottage can sleep up to seven. There is one full bath with tub downstairs and 1/2 bath upstairs plus an additional outside shower. Bed linens and towels are provided. Beds will be already made up in advance of your arrival. Additional towels are in the downstairs closet.

The kitchen is equipped with stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, pots and pans, plates, kitchen utensils, etc. You can dine on the screened in porch and enjoy the salt air while listening to the waves and the sea birds.

We offer free wireless WiFi to allow you to stay connected (using Brightspeed DSL). The living room also has a flat screen smart TV (with antenna limited to local channels weather permitting) with DVD with movies. You can also access your own streaming account (Amazon, Netflix, etc.) to watch your choice of content available from those services.

If you are seeking water activities, you can bring your kayak or canoe or rent them at the campground across the street. Horseback riding on the beach is also available. We are also happy to suggest local captains for boat rides or fishing. Or we are located about 40 minutes from historic towns of Beaufort and Morehead City where you can shop, dine, etc.

Come enjoy our secluded beach cottage away from the hustle and bustle for some relaxation, walking on the beach or enjoying some outdoor activities. We welcome pets (maximum 2 pets). Pets are permitted on the beach all year long (local lease law applies). We look forward to your visit.

Great house and location

The location was good - a <5 minute walk to a sandy beach and boat ramp. The house was great, too, with a screened porch and comfortable rooms. Internet and appliances worked, and the hosts were accommodating and available by text when we needed to check in very late.

Quaint, Quiet, Beach property

Becky was a wonderful host, easily available and prompt with communication and service. The house is situated on a quiet street, an easy walk to the secluded beach, and a perfect place for dogs to frolick in the water.

Nice getaway

This nice property is literally within walking distance to the ferry that can be taken to Ocracoke Island. The screened in porch is a nice touch and the living quarters were very cozy. Not much activity going on in Cedar Island in April, but that is what we were looking for. We were able to relax and enjoy the views and coastal area. Visited Ocracoke during our stay...a must see if you vacation here.

3 day break

A few friends and I stayed there during the off-season. The rental was clean and nice. We had enough to get by when it came to cooking, but if we stay there again, I would probably bring some extra supplies, and I would defiantly stop before I get to the island for food and ice. It's walking distance to a bar/restaurant but after one experience we would rather cook and hang out at the rental. Overall I would recommend it and if we come back I'll probably stay there again.

Great beach experience!

This house is super cute, very clean, quaint, and comfy. It was great for my husband, 12 year old and our tiny dog. Everything worked well, the outdoor shower, the kitchen, the little washer and dryer. The porch is awesome! Every morning I had coffee out there and listened to the waves and watched the water while working on my book. It is very relaxing, very quiet, and the beach is very close. The water is mellow, not very many people. It’s very isolated, so do come prepared with what food and drink you need! We took the ferry to Ocracoke one day which was super fun, drove to Davis and also Beaufort. We loved it and this house it great! Thank you!

Peaceful

Property was clean. The area is very quiet. The beach is an easy walk. Having the screened in porch was very nice, but too hot at dinner time to eat out there. It was a nice drive to Beaufort. Our only complaint was cell service which the locals said was a problem. Service worked great at the cottage only, but we were trying to keep track of a sailing race and others in our party who were in other locations on cedar island. Text did not work nor our phones just email.

Great getaway

Great little spot in Cedar Island if you’re looking to relax and disconnect. House was very clean and well appointed, and Becky and John were super accommodating. They gave us advice and updates for some rough weather during our stay and even offered to take us out fishing and share their fresh caught seafood with us! Our dog loved exploring the vacant beaches and the outdoor shower had hot water, which made it easy to clean her off. Also look out for new cow pies and hoof marks every morning! We heard but didn’t see the infamous Cedar Island “sea cows” Some FYIs for future travelers: the house is next to a small motel which was never an issue but couple times, it was louder than we expected. There’s also the ferry entrance, an rv park, and a couple of stores around the corner but the closest town is about 45 minutes away if you can’t find what you need at the convenience store/dollar general. The WiFi maxes out at about 1.5 mbps so best to set your expectations around working online or streaming video.

Did not quite meet expectations

Pros: - Clean, no visible sand or bugs, sheets and bath towels seemed clean (with exception of small hand towels and kitchen towels) - Owner was very responsive via text and dropped off hand soap and salt the next afternoon when we had reached out the night prior requesting that we have some - Beach access is very close via car Cons: - No salt when we arrived at the Vrbo - Trash can was broken, need to lift lid up by hand (instead of foot) - No clean dish sponges available; only available dish sponge was a used one - No hand soap in bathroom; seems that owners do not check if everything is stocked prior to guests arriving (hand soap also smells unpleasant) - Bring your own kitchen knives; the ones at the property are quite dull and frankly not safe to use - Directions to the beach are not written in the binder; it was confusing to find the correct way to the beach on foot--not within walking distance if you want to bring beach supplies or children with you - Not indicated by owner that there would be construction next door to the property

The home was clean and loved the screened in front porch looking at the water. It’s almost like you have your own private beach and the water is so shallow you can walk a long distance out. Make sure you bring bug spray for the mosquitoes. Also no grocery stores for 15-20 miles. Make sure to stop on your way in. We would stay here again loved how peaceful it is great place to have a book retreat!
Not sure the meaning but these are painted on the road and on flags hanging from homes.
Sunset on the beach.
Sunset from the rocks on the campground side.

2025 Vacation Cedar Island

I was impressed with house we stayed in. There were a few bumps in the road but nothing to put a damper on our vacation. Everything we needed was there for us. It was a short trip to the beach which is why we love Cedar Island so much. It’s a quiet beach with still waters at times. The ferry is available if you choose to go over to other islands such as Ocracoke or Cape Hatteras, horseback riding is available and a restaurant, however it wasn’t open this season because of transfer of management or ownership. Great place to vacation!!

Another great stay

We stayed in this home once before, before kids, and had a great time. So we decided to come back, this time with the kids. Again, we had a great time! The town is very quiet, and with it being warm weather there were jellyfish, but we still had so much fun relaxing on the beach, with convenience of driving on the beach as well. We also enjoyed being able to visit Ocracoke beach with a short ferry ride. The house was clean, I found a lot of stray hairs lol but that’s understandable. It stayed nice and cool, which I forgot to turn up the ac when we left (so sorry!) The outside area could really use bug treatment before guests stay, because there are.. and I cannot annunciate more, TONS of biting flies and mosquitoes. But overall if you are prepared with bug prevention, you will have a great and relaxing stay!!
