About this property

Balcony living at its best- enjoy the Metro and relax in comfort! OG for 4 +

Welcome to the neighborhood!
My hope is that your stay becomes part of the continuing story of the Wheeler Street Victorian. Each space in the Wheeler Street Victorian reflects years of restoration, design, and personal treasures collected across decades. My hope is that you feel welcomed, cared for, and right at home from the moment you arrive.

The OG—The Original Victorian Retreat, inspired by the warm hospitality of my Gran & Grampa Rhodes. Located in a quiet residential pocket of Saint Paul, this spacious historic apartment offers room to relax, cook, work, or play games. With easy access to nearby universities, cafés, and both downtowns as well as light rail access nearby, the walkability of the area, spring and summer offers even more with the private deck, and access to the large back yard!

Your Spring & Summer Home Away from Home

If you're looking for a peaceful, comfortable, character-filled place to stay this spring or summer, the OG offers warmth, history, generosity, and room to breathe. My hope is that this apartment brings you the same sense of welcome my Gran and Gramps shared with every guest who walked through their door.

The OG is located on the 2nd floor, offering a spacious retreat filled with thoughtful character and light. As the weather warms, mornings begin slowly with coffee and sunshine, and evenings glow with soft lights on the deck. This one-bedroom apartment is arranged the way my grandparents would have done it—intentional, welcoming, and full of character.
• Comfortable living room with Smart TV, Roku, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock and Netflix for relaxing evenings
• Board games & puzzles for relaxed nights in, with a blue tooth Victrola- including vinyl and CDs.
• Full kitchen stocked with cookware, barware, and dining essentials for meals at home
• Dining area perfect for conversation, meals, or planning the day’s adventures
• Peaceful bedroom with soft linens, room-darkening blinds, drapes, and sheers to welcome the morning light
• Space to accommodate additional guests with two fold-down sofa options and pack-n-plays, making it a comfortable landing spot for families with multiple small children (Family of 5 works fine)
• Dedicated workspace (desk or kitchen nook), high speed wifi-ideal for remote work
• Full bathroom with the original clawfoot tub and shower
* Private deck: The deck features sunny yellow wicker seating and a small dining table, surrounded by privacy sheers and soft golden lights, creating a peaceful place for morning coffee or relaxed evening conversations.

Shared Outdoor Space:
Guests also enjoy the large, fenced backyard gathering space, which includes:

• Gas BBQ grill
• Gas bonfire pit
• Patio seating for up to 10 guests
• Yard games for relaxed summer fun
It’s a wonderful space for unwinding after a day exploring the Twin Cities.

Quiet Neighborhood, Unbeatable Access

The Wheeler Street Victorian sits in a quiet residential pocket of Saint Paul, surrounded by historic homes and tree-lined streets, while still being close to everything:

• About 20 minutes to MSP Airport
• About 20 minutes to Mall of America
• Light rail access nearby for downtown Saint Paul & Minneapolis events
• Walkable to Selby Avenue cafés, shops, and boutiques
• Near Whole Foods and neighborhood groceries
• Within about 2 miles of Concordia, Hamline, St. Thomas, and the University of Minnesota

Whether you're visiting family, touring universities, attending events, or simply exploring the Twin Cities, you'll have easy central access with convenient street parking.

Details about other things like pets and additional people...

Bringing a Dog (Dogs Welcome — No Cats Due to Allergies)

Well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior approval. Because of severe allergies, cats cannot be accommodated under any circumstances.

If you plan to bring a dog, please include:

• your dog’s size/breed
• their experience staying in apartment settings

Approval must be confirmed before arrival. Pets brought without prior approval may result in cancellation of the reservation.

Once approved, I’m happy to provide an appropriately sized dog bed, bowls, and towels to help your pup feel comfortable during the stay.

The neighborhood is wonderful for dogs, with urban walking paths, nearby parks, river walks, and access to the large fenced backyard.

Babies, Children & Teens

Guests of all ages are welcome.

If you're traveling with a baby, please let me know in advance. I can provide:

• Pack-and-play with mattress and sheets
• Shelf for baby supplies
• Diaper Genie

These items are limited, so please request them when booking.

For families traveling with children or teens, feel free to share their ages and preferences so I can help prepare the space in a way that works best for your family.

Extra Guests & Sofa Beds

The OG includes two sofas that convert into shorter full-size beds, which can work well for children or teens who prefer their own sleeping space.

Please let me know if you would like one or both sofas prepared before arrival, or if you would prefer to set them up during your stay.

If your reservation includes additional guests, a pet, or unique sleeping arrangements, I may reach out to learn more. This helps me prepare the apartment properly—whether that means setting up sofa beds, pack-and-plays, or other accommodations.

Examples that are helpful when booking:

• “Two guests, but we prefer separate beds.”
• “Two adults and our adult child staying one night.”
• “Three guests including a taller guest who may need extra cushioning.”

The more I know ahead of time, the better I can prepare the home for your comfort.

If anything changes before arrival, simply send a message. I’m responsive and happy to help whenever possible.

About the host

Host profile image
Hi, and welcome to my spaces! While I am a transplant to Minnesota, at 26 I found a condemned four-plex, the Wheeler Street Victorian, fell in love, and stayed after fixing it up. While my journey has had twists and turns, the short version is after teaching for 17 years in Early Childhood Education, I now spend my days working as a State Analyst, allowing me opportunity for creative adventures in my downtime!

I inherited a love for antiquing (Gran/Gramps) and repurposing/reuse (Mum/Pop). These skills combined have given me a flair for design, which I hope you will enjoy the mix of styles you will find- they are perfectly imperfect- much like myself, but full of character, and I hope you will step out of the perfectly styled, into a home! Lynda

Why they chose this property

Thirty plus years ago, I felt joy and magic when I first visited this building. The neighborhood has shifted over the course of the three + decades, but the sense of belonging has not.
The central location of my space is a huge draw, as close to sporting arenas, the State fair, just off light rail, close to all freeway entries, and truly walkable as I am just home now from an afternoon jaunt by local stores.

What makes this property unique

Many spaces you stay at feel staged- this feels like home in the best way possible. I hope you become part of the Wheeler Street Victorian Story.
