Water levels change seasonally as Alabama Power draws down Smith Lake each year
• Mid-March to Mid-August: Best water for swimming, kayaking + fishing
• Late August–Labor Day: Water recedes; late-August depths may be ~1–3 ft, limiting swimming. Kayaking may still be possible
• After Labor Day: Water continues receding as more lakebed is exposed
• Fall–Winter: Water near the dock is typically shallow or absent; streams continue flowing toward the deeper cove
