The History
Lake Cavanaugh has deep roots in Washington’s logging history. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the surrounding forests supported a thriving timber industry, with logs floated across the lake and transported downriver to nearby mills. Early roads, camps, and ranger stations helped manage the land and guide workers and visitors through this rugged landscape. Today, the quiet beauty of the lake remains, offering a peaceful retreat shaped by its working past.
This home itself is part of that history. Originally built as one of the first ranger stations on the lake, it once served as a gathering point for visitors purchasing firewood permits and learning about the area. Details like the black chain parking barrier, brass boundary marker, and the home’s unique shape are reminders of its past. Staying here means experiencing a rare piece of Lake Cavanaugh’s early stewardship and history.
The Neighborhood
Enjoy a leisurely walk or bike ride along the scenic road that circles Lake Cavanaugh, surrounded by peaceful forest and mountain views. The lake is about a 35-minute drive from Arlington or Mount Vernon, making it an easy escape from town. Nearby adventures include Walker Valley ORV Park, exploring North Cascades National Park, visiting Deception Pass State Park, and enjoying local restaurants and breweries in the area.
Getting There
Lake Cavanaugh is easily accessible from the region’s airports and surrounding towns. Guests flying in typically use Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), about 1 hour and 35 minutes south, Everett Paine Field (PAE), about 1 hour and 10 minutes south, or Bellingham International Airport (BLI), roughly 1 hour and 10 minutes north. For local travelers, the lake is just over 1 hour from Everett or 45 minutes from Mount Vernon, making it a convenient getaway from either direction.

About the host
Hosted by Larry & Pamela
We are a local Arlington family who have cherished this lake for many years. We raised our daughters here and now love watching the next generation build their own traditions by the water. As hosts, we believe in giving you space to relax while always being nearby if anything is needed. We hope your time at the lake is filled with the same laughter, connection, and lasting memories our family has been lucky to make.
