We had a wonderful time at the Brennan Bungalow! Our family has stayed in mitiwanga many times through the last 30 years, and this year was truly a wonderful week together as a family. The home is comfortable and clean. We loved the short walk to the beach!
We enjoyed our time at Mitawanga. The house has plenty of space, a lovely backyard, and the downstairs was perfect for our 5 grandchildren.

Thank you Susan for your generous review. It is our goal that guests have the most positive and memorable stay at our cottage. We are always open to suggestions, especially from the guest perspective. Thank you for taking good care with the bungalow!
What a fabulous home. Once there, we discovered that it was even better than pictured (if that could be possible).
So much space and sleeping area for everyone and beautifully charming. Kitchen was very well stocked. We’ll be back!
We had a wonderful time at this house. The home was spacious and accommodations were clean and plentiful. The beach was close-by and the streets were quiet and safe. The outdoor space on the property was not very kid friendly. Open to the street and decks were multi-level. Very responsive and considerate host! Great overall visit, close to Vermilion a lovely little town!
Older, cottage style house. But clean and had plenty of room for my family of 7.
Owner answered questions in timely minor.
Favorite part was short walk to a nice beach. We made a fire and s’mores our first night.
Neighborhood quiet
Weird quirk was open toilet in main bedroom.
House was very charming and had everything we needed: multiple bathrooms, ample space to spread out, appliances, close to the water, etc. We were within 20 mins or so of all planned activities and a quick walk to the beach/lake and basketball court for the kids. Neighborhood full of incredibly friendly people. The only issue we had was that the house was very close to the railroad, but we adjusted to the noise after just one night.

Thank you Lisa, for your kind comments. To be sure the railway is not that close, but the sound definitely carries in the dead of night. Some of us use a "white noise app" to help muffle the train whistles. Perhaps I should add that to my greeting letter.
My family and I stayed to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday. We had 4 families comprised of 8 adults and 4 children. There was plenty of room for everyone. The property worked well for what we needed and was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We explored the surrounding area, but the kids’ favorite thing was collecting sea glass from the waterfront, which was just a walk away from the property. We spent hours there. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a chill, relaxing weekend with no city distractions.
Our group had a pleasant stay and enjoyed all the thoughtful touches throughout the home. We enjoyed visiting Lake Erie right down the street and prepared a festive family dinner with everything we needed. Lovely!
We loved staying at the Mitiwanga lake house! It was just down the street from our cousin's house so we could walk to all of the get togethers or we could slip away and get out of their way. The home was exactly as described and was the perfect place to relax in between activities. I wish our itinerary wasn't so full so we could have taken full advantage of everything it had to offer!
Our trip involved a cousins reunion with those traveling from Maryland, California and Georgia. We are local. Everything was beyond perfect from speaking to Ellen, to the house and it’s location, to the amenities. We enjoyed the beach each evening. Everyone is planning our next trip. The street the house is on is adorable. The house is perfect for a big group. Very clean and decorated so sweetly. Never needed to call Ellen at anything during our stay but I knew she was immediately accessible. Highly recommend!!😎
This beautiful, well-kept house was the perfect place for our family stay with our 3 adult children and their spouses! The main floor is open with a large cooking island and lots of seats for gathering/socializing. The back porch has a nice grill & is very private. It is a short walk to Mitiwanga's private beach that also has quite a few benches up on the hill to sit and watch the sunset. We made the short drive to both Huron & Vermilion to eat, along with a visit to Quarry Hill Winery where we enjoyed delicious wine and a view of Lake Erie. All in all, it's a wonderful place, and we plan on coming back again!

Thank you Valerie for your kind words, and great care of the house. We hope your family does return, and we are always open to suggestions on how we can make your experience better.
Throughout our stay we had 4 generations and several friends stay overnight or just visit for the day. The beach is just down the street (great for the day or just the sunset) and there is also so much to do in Vermilion and Huron. The house has enough bathrooms and space for everyone and we even brought a telescope to use on the balcony off of the master bedroom since the sky is darker over the lake.
Co-owner Ellen was quick to respond to any question we had and the community is amazing. You can’t go wrong staying in this home. We are already talking about staying again next year.

We had our immediate family together for Memorial Day weekend and had a great time here! We give our children “experiences “ for Christmas and this was definitely one of their favorites!! Plenty of room and beautiful neighborhood with a short walk to Lake Erie. Went to Cedar Point all 3 days since we had season passes. Only 20 minute drive. Thanks Ellen, for your promptness on any questions we had! We will definitely keep this on our list to rent again!
The property was expansive both inside and outside and more beautiful then I was expecting - love those kind of surprises! Although we had only a few family members come for my nieces wedding because of covid, I would definitely come back again!
Wonderful trip and lovely charming home. Modern amenities with vintage touches too. Comfortable furnishings and beds. Great kitchen. Open first floor to make gatherings easy. Nice beach and neighborhood. We could love to come again.
This home was the perfect getaway with my in laws! The home was even better than the pictures and had plenty of room. The finished basement with a second small kitchen was certainly a bonus!
This neighborhood at Mitiwanga has so much charm. We enjoyed the beach every day we were there (2 blocks down the street direct access!). We also enjoyed walking down to the beach for our nightly sunset view.
Thank you Ellen for a great stay! We are looking forward to coming back next month with my family.
Our family had the best time and created so many memories at the Brennan Bungalow! The home was welcoming, charming & stocked with everything we needed! We loved sitting on the back deck, playing cards and watching the sun set over the lake at the end of our long days on the Miti beach! We spent time as a family and enjoyed relaxing in this perfect cottage! We will be back! The Fitzpatrick Family
We were a family of two adults and two teens, and the house was perfect. Our aim was to have a nice relaxing place that was in a decent midpoint between Cleveland and Cedar Point (and nearby attractions). This was a good spot!
The house is charming. The first floor is open and the kitchen is well stocked for cooking. We appreciated having multiple bathrooms (teens!) and the hot water managed to last despite their epic showers (sorry, Ellen). The bedrooms were quaint. The master bed mattress was very tough on my back and I needed Advil to recover a couple times but I know some people love a firm mattress and others like softer. The kids liked their mattresses and had no issues, hubby also was fine.
One funny thing that happened is that we woke up midway through the trip to discover the house completely engulfed in mayflies. On every door, window, exterior wall... my oldest joked that the apocalypse had happened. Then a day later (or so) they all left. Apparently this is a “lake thing!” and it is not like the mayflies were in the house or bothersome. Just a jarring visual image mostly! Just know they can descend in summer so you are not shocked like we were.
Ellen was a responsive and friendly host over text and by phone. She clearly cares about everyone having a good stay. And the house is lovingly cared for.
The lake at the end of the block is beautiful and there is cute seating by the water.
We flew, so bringing towels was problematic. Ellen made special arrangements for us and it was so appreciated.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat! A week here was not long enough. You will not regret choosing this house.
Be advised that we thought there was a little tavern/cafe in walking distance of the house (based on prior reviews and GPS listing) but it is permanently closed. That was a little disappointing but we had a rental car so we drove into “downtown” Huron and got our coffee every morning from a cute little place called Gathering Grounds. Very good lattes, friendly folks, and excellent pastries!

You feel like you're home as soon as you walk in the door!
Although the hill to the water is a challenge the beach was wonderful. Our collection of beach glass was amazing! We will continue our family tradition of a week together in this house for years to come!

About the host
Hosted by Ellen Brennan-Humbert
This cottage is family owned, a dream of ours since childhood. Raised in Cleveland, one of us still resides there and the other in Newport, KY with our families. Our childhood summers always included a week, or even 2, renting a cottage along this area of Lake Erie. Those memories are still among our most precious. For a family of 13 in the 1960's, traveling 60 miles to a cottage was a cross country adventure. We even rented the cottage next to this at one time.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this property because of it's location and charming bungalow appeal. The first floor has 20 windows, filling the space with sunlight and lovely views of the surrounding community. It is perfect for family gatherings, and located conveniently between the Lake Erie coastal towns of Vermillion and Huron. The sandy beach is deep and well maintained. Every sunset is unique, but always spectacular.
What makes this property unique
This house is well suited for multiple generation gatherings or several families, having an open first floor plan with multiple seating areas, a full basement, 3.5 baths, 2 kitchens, and a large private deck space. Up to 6 vehicles can be parked on the drive and lot.
