Welcome to 810 Elmwood Drive, West Lafayette, Indiana 47906! We are so glad you decided to stay here. We hope you have a great time in West Lafayette, Indiana.
We are happy to share this special getaway with you. You booked a house with a whooping six beds and three bathrooms that is less than 1 mile walk to Ross-Ade stadium or Mackey Arena. The rest of Purdue campus is accessible. Greater Lafayette City bus service is available every half hour along Northwestern Ave (Route 43 Northwestern Avenue).
You'll enjoy entrusting your stay to this private home. Hopefully the home will help you enjoy your stay with all its amenities. Starting in the foyer, there is an bedroom to your left. That bedroom has a door to the single car garage which is currently not in use. From the foyer front door, go to the right around a partial way to walk into the expansive first floor living room with an adjacent dining area and kitchen. The first floor living room has a comfortable sofa and chairs, a fireplace, and a TV. After crossing the first floor living room, you enter the dining room where you can enjoy a dinner cooked at home, or delivered from one of our many nearby restaurants. The dining room features: a dining table with seating for 6 people. The dining room also connects to the kitchen. The fully equipped kitchen features everything you need to cook meals at home. A hallway past the kitchen leads to the first floor bedrooms and two full bathrooms. After a busy day, soak in a bathtub, and soundly sleep in any one of the three quiet and restful bedrooms. Each bed offers: full size or larger mattresses, sheets, and curtains. The hallway also provides access to a mudroom leading to the backyard patio. The mudroom includes a desk and chair with a window to the backyard. The fenced in backyard includes patio furniture. The first floor hallway also provides access to the finished basement. Once downstairs you will see the basement living room also featuring comfortable sofa and chairs. The basement hallway leads you to another full bathroom and another bedroom with a queen size mattress, sheets, and curtains.
During your stay you will appreciate that you are less than a mile from each of the following: Purdue campus, Ross-Ade Stadium, Mackey Arena, Birck Golf Complex, Folk Field and Boilermaker Soccer Complex, Schwartz Tennis Center, Alexander Field, Celery Bog Nature Area, Faith West including Cafe Literato and community playground, and Happy Hollow Park. West Lafayette downtown full of restaurants, bars, and attractions is a quick two-mile drive.
The West Lafayette Parks Recreation and Trail Map shows some fantastic parks, trails, and footpaths available in the neighborhood. My favorite is the Celery Bog Nature Area/Lilly Nature Center. There is an area to sit and watch nature. Animals come to the area and you can observe animals in their natural habitat.
Please keep in mind that 810 Elmwood Drive was built in 1950. While not a historic house, you may not find as many electrical outlets as in a modern home. There are HVAC vents in the floor or adjacent to the floor. You can easily lose coins, keys, etc. to a vent or an old laundry shute if not careful. The fireplace is currently not available until it has been inspected. We ask that any window is carefully opened or closed.
Also the City of West Lafayette has rental housing occupancy limits of either (1) one family and no more than two unrelated guests or (2) no more than three unrelated guests. The City requires submission of an Occupancy Affidavit stating the names and relationships of each guest. Please complete both the rental agreement and the West Lafayette Occupancy Affidavit when booking your stay.
You should find everything that you need, but if you have a question that isn't covered in here, please do get in touch and let me know how I can help. We hope you enjoy yourself and visit again in the future!

About the host
Hosted by Cedric Axel D'Hue
When we were presented with the opportunity to purchase another short term rental from another local short term rental host, we wanted to make the most of the opportunity.
Similar to 1515 Northwestern Avenue and 725 Bexley Road, 810 Elmwood Drive provided another opportunity to purchase a nearly century old home. Unlike 1515 Northwestern Avenue which we seek to update into a modern home while keeping or restoring the 1930s character, such as the many interior window shutters, 810 Elmwood Drive has already been updated.
The fireplace is currently not available until it has been inspected.
All of the rooms are relatively quiet.
Running 810 Elmwood Drive as a short term rental provides our family a number of opportunities for our children to get involved in our short term rental business. With 1515 Northwestern Avenue and 725 Bexley Road, our children have been involved in opening boxes, putting away house supplies, building furniture, and making up beds. So far with 1515 Northwestern Avenue and 725 Bexley Road, they have also assisted with parking cars during home Purdue football games and selling lemonade, chips, Cub Scout popcorn, etc.
Similar to 1515 Northwestern Avenue and 725 Bexley Road, we seek to get our children involved with running 810 Elmwood Drive as a short term rental. We also seek to have them stay involved in the operations of all of our short term rentals.
We welcome you to join us on this journey. We hope you as guests will return over time to see the transformation of this house. Your booking revenue is funding the renovations. Thank you!
Why they chose this property
We read The Family Board Meeting (https://www.18summers.com/book/) and realized that we only have 18 summers with our kids, currently 14, 14, 11, and 10 years old. One of our 14 year old twins has a God given talent for hospitality. Our 11 year old daughter is a natural entrepreneur. We already have two long term rentals, two mid-term rentals and two other local short term rentals. We were looking for opportunities to incorporate our rental businesses with teaching our children new talents. Similar to Cleaning House (https://www.amazon.com/Cleaning-House-Twelve-Month-Experiment-Entitlement/dp/0307730670) we sought to cultivate our children's gifts and talents in entrepreneurship. After staying in a few short term vacation rentals, we were interested in incorporating short term vacation rentals into teaching our children in the way they should go. The Palace (810 Elmwood Drive) is quite a find. The Palace was built in 1950 (before the nearby Frank Lloyd Wright Samara House (http://samara-house.org/)). The Palace is less than 1 mile from Ross-Ade stadium, Mackey Arena, and near the rest of Purdue campus. There are two full bathrooms and four bedrooms on the first floor accessible by one stair.
What makes this property unique
There are two full bathrooms and four bedrooms on the first floor accessible by one front porch stair.
