About this property
Architectural jewel with private outdoor pool & firepit - dog-friendly
Experience a wonder of Palm Springs architecture at The Aluminum House, a renovated, two-bedroom retreat that sits within sight of the San Jacinto Mountains in the wonderfully central neighborhood of Movie Colony East. Only Albert Frey, in Palm Springs, was known to have used strong, lightweight, all-aluminum frames like this one, which dates back to 1953. The living space was ahead of its time, with walls of windows that let in the sunlight, an open kitchen, and front and rear patios that allow you to relax outdoors at any time of day. The windows throughout the home were also recently renovated and reimagined by H3K design. There's a private swimming pool with great sun exposure, plentiful outdoor seating for lounging and dining, as well as a firepit where you can unwind beneath the stars each evening.
This home is located in the desirable Movie Colony East neighborhood of Palm Springs, where it's surrounded by other architectural gems and celebrity homes. You'll be a few blocks from the tennis courts at Ruth Hardy Park, and less than a mile east of Palm Canyon Drive - the main strip in downtown Palm Springs that's lined with celebrated restaurants, boutiques, antique shops, casinos, and other attractions. The Palm Springs Art Museum is just over a mile west, Palm Springs International Airport is two miles southeast, and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is less than seven miles west.
Things to Know Outdoor music is prohibited. Music that is played indoors must not be heard outdoors. City ordinance states that any music that is audible from the property line is a violation. This private home felt very secluded. It was a welcome retreat from busy life. The pool was excellent and we loved grilling out.

Fantastic home!
Super cute and comfortable home! Loved the windows that lined both side of the house for views of the pool and the patio on the other side. Nice, airy and bright. Close enough to walk to the downtown area too.

Loved The Aluminum House
Everything about this house was excellent - great location, pool and amenities. The house was quiet, clean and very comfortable. Great location and beautiful views. Thank you for the guidebood which I used often - all instructions provided for the barbecue, TV's, etc. I would definitely stay here again.
This place was great! Great location, rooms were nice, outdoor space was good. I wish it was cheaper to heat the pool...but totally get that utilities are expensive. 100% 5 stars. Loved it.

Lovely house overshadowed by street traffic
The house was perfect for 4 - bright, airy with nice mid-century touches. Kitchen was well equipped. The issue is its location on an frequently used access road to downtown…not quite the peaceful retreat we were hoping for.
This mid-century bungalow has fantastic views of the mountains around Palm Springs. Super clean, well equipped, and beautifully decorated. We were able to walk to the main drag where all the bars, shops, and restaurants are located. My husband and adult son were able to work remotely--- there is a desk area and the wifi was great. Loved the Aluminium House and would stay here again.

Great old school cool place to hang in Palm Springs
Perfect spot for 2 couples. Very well equipped with everything you need. Kitchen included spices, olive oil etc. A little street noise but not so much at night. Nice little private pool. Close to downtown shops and restaurants. Would stay again. Management was very helpful and responsive as needed. ENJOY!
Architecturally interesting property updated for contemporary living. Nicely appointed with everything one might need. Very clean. A bit noisy during the day from street noise but quiet at night. Had some issues with a few appliances during the stay which were very quickly replaced or repaired. Over all a fantastic property.

Beautiful home
Gorgeous space, beautiful light, convenient location, good energy. Traffic can be loud from inside the house and because of the foliage surrounding the pool it gathers debris quickly. Even with those caveats would still highly recommend. Grateful for the space!
Loved the layout and retro feel of the home! We were not completely informed of the location. Downside is the driveway off MAJOR thoroughfare. Traffic and noise were obtrusive. Led to believe home was walking distance to town and park. Not so. But overall, a very enjoyable week in a cute and comfortable aluminum house.
The house is small and the bathrooms are very small with no place to put your cosmetics. The pool was lovely and we did enjoy that but there is no shade, so it was uncomfortable to sit outside. It was very warm and you can not set the ac below 76 but there were no fans in the house and it’s pretty much all windows, so it felt warm. We went and bought a fan to help. I would not stay there again.
overall, the Aluminum House was a nice place to stay. it was well appointed and the bed was really comfy. as advertised, it was walking distance to downtown PS, which was great! however, there were three very disappointing things about the place.
1. there was no working tv. i admit, i'm on the old side. at home we watch cable and stream Hulu. this house had three TV's and every one of them required a streaming service to watch. we were unable to watch TV during our entire stay. did Vacasa bother to tell us this before? nope. we ended up reading books, which in the greater sense of things, was probably not a bad alternative.
2. the spin cycle on clothes washer doesn't work. after three hours, waiting for it to spin and drain, we had to put soaking wet clothes in to the dryer to get them dry!
3. the shower head in the master bath was installed wrong. it cannot be adjusted so that it doesn't spray water against the glass door, which then runs out on to the floor. fortunately, there was another shower in the other bathroom, but still - an unworkable shower in the master?

Response from VrboOwner on 4 March 2024
Peter, thank you for being our guest and taking the time to share your experience. We're pleased that you found our home well-appointed and that its location served you well! That said, we apologize for the issues you encountered that kept you from fully enjoying your stay. Our local manager assured us that the TVs have the Spectrum app to watch regular TV and we regret any inconvenience you encountered. Additionally, the shower head is installed correctly, it's just the design of the shower and the washer was addressed and is in good working order. We enjoyed having you as our guest and we hope to host you again soon.
Nice home, unfortunate location and subpar service
The home itself was nicely maintained, decorated, and clean. However, it is located directly on a noisy street, with a pool at the front of the property, which rendered it unsuitable for relaxation with near constant noise from traffic. The listing did not advise either of these facts.
Poor Service from Vacasa
- Confusing, poorly managed check-in process with conflicting information from multiple sources. Including being given multiple access codes.
- Very late 4 PM check-in time. Request for earlier check-in denied. This necessitated a very late arrival due to available travel options.
- There are multiple lockboxes on the property, which I was not told about. The lockbox right next to the front gate wouldn’t open with any of the codes provided. Vacasa was slow to respond to inquiries gaining entry (considering I was stuck outside the house, unable to enter). Eventually I found an additional lockbox, hidden around the side of the house (in darkness, because by then it was well into nighttime) which contained the keys so I was able to get into the house.
- Only one set of keys provided for multiple guests, and a request for additional keys was also denied. This required constant coordination to ensure we didn’t inadvertently lock the other one out of the house.
While the home's condition was good, the noisy location and subpar service from Vacasa detracted from the stay. The listing transparency and check-in experience need to be vastly improved.
