Disliked: Cleanliness, check-in, listing accuracy
This property was disappointing and did not match the expectations set by the listing or by the host’s communication before booking. The unit was part of a shared house, which was not clearly disclosed, and the upstairs tenants were very loud throughout the night. The shared yard was also a problem, as it was accessible to other tenants and their dog used the space.Inside the unit, we noticed a stale smoke odor and other unpleasant smells coming from nearby units. We also dealt with ants and flies, and the ant traps provided did not resolve the issue. Several safety and privacy concerns added to the discomfort, including removed smoke detectors in the bedrooms with exposed wires and blinds that did not properly cover the windows.The biggest concern was the neighborhood safety. When I specifically asked before booking whether the area was safe for female travelers, I was told it was safe and that we should only expect “city noise.” During our stay, there was a homicide across the street, and the road was blocked off due to an active crime scene when we returned. That was extremely upsetting and far beyond what was represented to us.
