This rental was perfect aside from one major issue. The local area is very risky due to increased crime throughout the city. While generally safe, the rental does not include secure parking and getting a city pass for overnight parking is difficult. Even if a parking pass is issued, Milwaukee is #1 on America’s crime list for motor vehicle theft.
We arrived in Milwaukee around 8:30p on our first day, and paid for parking at a Power Parking lot on 3rd street about a 1.5 block walk from our rental. When we walked to the parking lot the next day around 12:30p our car was gone. It was stolen in less than 24hrs of our visit. We recovered it, but the police towed it to the city lot with storage fee for 4days until the end of our stay. This was expensive and came with stressful processing to retrieve the vehicle. The vehicle sustained some minor damage as the thieves ripped the driver side door handle off to gain access to it, and then reprogrammed it to take it…which required a locksmith to fix. However, we were able to get the car and return home safely.
We recommend advising visitors about the local crime scene, especially auto theft, well in advance of stay dates…providing renters with detailed information and recommendations for covered/secure parking, or make it available on site. The 3rd ward is a solid option and a short walk.
This would’ve been 5 stars, but having a car stolen is a huge impact on a vacation. Everything else was fantastic. Many grateful apologies!
My family (6 adults) stayed at this property to attend a Brewers game. The check-in and check-out processes were very smooth. There was a simple lockbox to obtain the keys and the host did not require any cleaning measures prior to our departure. We took out the trash before we left. Street parking around the property was easy to find, and the host provided clear instructions on how to pay for overnight parking. There were no complaints about the comfortability of the beds nor pillows. My husband and I planned to sleep on the pull-out couch, but it was awfully thin. We slept on the couch, which fit 2 adults nicely and was actually very comfortable! There were regular curtains that let light in in the morning in the living room and the bedrooms. There are great bars and restaurants nearby; we went to Camino and O’Lydias, both with great food. At night, the bars were crowded, and my parents who live in a rural area said that the patrons kept them up. Despite all of this, we likely wouldn’t stay here again for two major reasons. While the property and apartment were very clean upon our arrival, there were many fruit flies all around the apartment, particularly in the bathroom, and even one in the refrigerator. Second, we ended up paying almost 1000 to stay here for one night, and we did not feel as though we got our money's worth. It was a busy weekend with Summerfest and a Brewers-Cubs game, so we hypothesized that this is why the price was so steep.
