We had a good stay at Among the Laurels. The property was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed. However, there were a few things that could have made our experience much better.
Our biggest complaint was the sleeping arrangements. Unfortunately, we experienced some of the worst sleep we’ve ever had! The downstairs bed was extremely uncomfortable, squeaky, and small. It also seemed to dip toward the middle, leaving us feeling like we were rolling into each other all night. After a rough first night, we switched beds with our child and moved up to the loft. Unfortunately, that wasn’t much better. With the windows positioned right at bed level, headlights from passing cars and other outdoor lighting made it difficult to sleep. The loft was also quite warm, as heat collected upstairs and the cooler air didn’t seem to reach that space. Thankfully, the fan provided some relief!
We were also surprised that there didn’t appear to be any nearby water access, at least none that we could find. Given that kayaking was an option, we were a little confused about where we would actually launch a kayak and how we would transport it there, even if we had brought our truck.
Lastly, the property sits next to a fairly busy road, so the traffic noise was a bit disappointing and took away from the peaceful atmosphere we had hoped for.
Overall, Among the Laurels is a charming, well-equipped place to stay, but the uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, road noise, and lack of convenient water access made the experience less enjoyable than we had anticipated.
