Quiet 2-bedroom mountain cabin overlooking Shady Valley
Sitting at 3,300 ft of elevation in the East Tennessee mountains, this isn't your average getaway. It's a cozy, quiet retreat on a dead-end road, for those who enjoy mountain breezes and watching the sun rise over a misty valley six hundred feet below.
Not far from The Snake (a very windy portion of TN 421), the Appalachian Trail, Backbone Rock, and Damascus, VA – the property is 45 minutes from Bristol Motor Speedway. Enjoy the races, then relax on the quiet mountainside.
Originally built as a tiny home, the structure has been thoughtfully expanded to create a more welcoming space with two bedrooms and a full bath. It's a great fit for a couple's getaway or a family of four (couple + two children). And, while it sleeps up to 4 guests comfortably (1 queen, 2 twins), four adults might find 500 sq ft a bit tight.
The one-acre fenced in yard works for dogs or kids, though very little of it is level. The front porch has attachment points for leashes, making it perfect for the dogs to be secured outside, but able to move under the porch into the shade should the temperature warrant.
Speaking of the temperature, the summers here are very nice, and we'll average a handful of days each year that reach 90 degrees. In general, summer finds us 10 degrees cooler during the day than down in Bristol or Kingsport.
One of the best features of this elevation is the ability to sit on the porch and truly enjoy the view. Thanks to the consistent breezes and cooler temperatures, bugs are not generally an issue.
We've updated everything but the utility room/closet. However, the washer and dryer are available, though we'd ask that you use the non-perfumed detergent provided if you need to wash something. This helps us ensure that we keep strong odors minimized, to be considerate of the needs of a broad range of guests.
Outside the house, you may also use the fenced-in yard, including a disc-golf putting setup (2 baskets) and a fire-pit with Adirondack chairs. Be careful walking about, since portions of the property are steep or covered in long grass/weeds.
If you are pulling a boat or other trailer, let us know so we can provide further instructions, since the driveway is an in-and-out, and not a drive-thru.
We have Wi-Fi by way of Starlink. We also have a Verizon tower and an AT&T tower about 3 miles away as the crow flies (which provide good mobile service most of the time).
We recommend a 4WD or AWD vehicle for winter. Getting up here isn't difficult, but the road can be challenging to descend until it has been plowed. We usually get 30 inches or so each winter, though a single snowfall usually only lasts a few days.

I would like to thank you and commend your approval to allow my brother in law to make reservations at a last minute notice. You have been responsive, considerate, and flexible! He wanted to pass along that enjoyed the peacefulness of your cabin and the morning porch views were a relaxing getaway from home in FL. Everything was clean. The bed was extremely co.fortable and boasted about being able to sleep past 3am for the first time in years! Thank you so much for everything! He thoroughly enjoyed his stay and loved stopping by the Shady store for breakfast! (Even got himself a hat)

So glad to hear that things worked out and that he had such a refreshing time.
The photos don't do this place justice. The rooms are great, the view is phenomenal, and the host is very responsive. The drive going up to the cabin is one of the most scenic in the area. I will be looking at this property again for our next visit.
