Why they chose this property
This neighborhood is very safe, has houses with grand architecture and everything in between. It is also only 4 blocks to downtown baraboo, where there are many restaurants, shops, and activities to choose from.
What makes this property unique
The Ringling House Bed & Breakfast, historically known as the Charles Ringling House, is a historic Georgian Revival mansion in Baraboo, Wisconsin, originally built in 1900-1901 for Charles Ringling, one of the five founding brothers of the Ringling Bros. Circus.
Charles Ringling commissioned the home during the peak of the circus's growth. It was designed by the prominent Milwaukee architectural firm Ferry and Clas and built by local German immigrant craftsmen George and Karl Isenberg. A cottage was added to the estate for Charles mother-in-law, when she became a widow.
Charles and his wife, Edith, lived in the home until 1912, when they relocated to Evanston, IL. In 1916, Charles sold the property to his brother, Henry Ringling, and it remained in the Ringling family for over 100 years until it was sold in 2015 to be converted into a bed and breakfast.
The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It is significant for its direct association with the Ringling family's impact on American entertainment and as a premier example of early 20th-century domestic architecture.
The Conway Cottage is on the nearly 2 acre lot owned by Charles Ringling.
