About this property

Bigfoot's Rest Guest Suite

Welcome to Bigfoot’s Rest, a bright and newly renovated two‑bedroom suite tucked into a 100‑year‑old character home at the edge of Courtenay’s historic Old Orchard neighborhood. Once owned by renowned Bigfoot researcher John Bindernagel, this space carries a unique local story while offering all the comforts of a modern stay.

The Space:
This surprisingly bright lower‑level suite is designed for calm, comfort, and ease. Natural light fills the rooms, highlighting the warm finishes and spacious layout. Guests enjoy a quiet, cozy retreat while staying close to everything downtown Courtenay has to offer.
Inside, you’ll find:
- Two comfortable bedrooms
- A full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher
- Full‑sized washer and dryer
- High‑speed WiFi
- Quality furnishings and thoughtful touch
- Plenty of storage, including covered outdoor storage
- A mountain bike wash station and propane fire pit

From soaps to mattresses, we choose premium Canadian products to create an instant “at‑home” feeling.

Neighborhood & Setting:
Old Orchard is one of Courtenay’s most charming and walkable neighborhoods. Stroll beneath heirloom trees, listen for eagles overhead, and catch glimpses of mountain peaks between rooftops. Despite being close to downtown, nature is woven into daily life here — it’s common to see deer, rabbits, and other local wildlife passing through the yard.
Nearby:
- Downtown Courtenay — 10‑minute walk
- Puntledge River Park — 5‑minute walk
- Cumberland trails — 10‑minute drive
- Mt. Washington — 30‑minute drive
Whether you’re here for biking, hiking, skiing, beach days, or simply relaxing, this location makes it easy to explore the Comox Valley.

Guest Access:
Guests have full access to:
- The suite
- Backyard and fire pit
- Outdoor secured storage
- Mountain bike wash station
- Parking available around back via the laneway or free additional street parking
EV charging is available at the front of the house.
The charger is a 40A Grizzl‑E (Tesla drivers will need a J‑plug adapter).
If you plan to charge, please let us know so we can ensure parking is arranged for your arrival.

Access to the suite is through the laneway at the back of the property.

This suite has a couple of stairs required to access the suite.

House Notes:
We live upstairs and have sensitive allergies, so no smoking or vaping on the property. If you’re travelling with pets, we recommend exploring other local listings that are better suited for furry companions.

Getting Around:
Courtenay is easy to navigate by car or bicycle. Local bus routes are nearby, and the Little River Ferry terminal is just a 14‑minute drive away, making travel to Powell River simple and convenient.

Your Hosts:
Michael and Theresa live in the home above the suite. Their work in sustainability takes them across the province, and on weekends you’ll often find them biking in Cumberland, dipping into the ocean at Point Holmes, or enjoying a drink on a Courtenay patio. They’re always happy to share local recommendations or hear about your adventures.

This is a newly renovated suite, and we welcome any suggestions that help make future stays even better.
