A warm welcome to Carolinensiel at Hof Tjarks! A North Sea holiday for relaxation and rejuvenation!
You’ll find Hof Tjarks in Neu-Augustengroden in Wangerland, right near the North Sea spa town of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel.

Our traditional Gulfhof is situated in a completely peaceful setting amid the vast, fresh East Frisian marshes, surrounded by lush meadows and fields, between the main dike and the secondary dike, right on the edge of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, an UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 2009.

A short distance north of our farm lies the outer dike, and beyond it, the sea. A short distance to the south lies the “sleeping dike”—the old dike that, following land reclamation over the past centuries, is now situated somewhat inland and no longer serves a direct coastal protection function. That is why it is also called the “sleeping dike,” because it has, so to speak, found its rest.

Our farm in Groden lies between these two dikes—the land reclaimed from the sea by earlier generations, which will offer you a truly unique scenic experience during your holiday.

Our cosy, comfortable, and fully equipped holiday apartment is approximately 80 square metres in size. The apartment is located on the upper floor, has three bedrooms, and is therefore ideal for up to six people. A complete set of baby gear is available for the little ones.

You can use the apartment’s terrace, located right outside our front door in the garden, for reading, resting, relaxing, or barbecuing. In the beautiful, sunny garden in front of our house, you can enjoy the incredible peace and quiet and the wonderfully fresh East Frisian air.

A swing, monkey bars, a basketball hoop, a ping-pong table, and various children’s ride-on toys are available.

Our ponies, Riska and Vox, are quite elderly and are enjoying their retirement with us. Our dog, Rieka, a Border Collie mix, looks after the farm and our small herd of Cameroon sheep.

Carolinensiel-Harlesiel offers a wide range of holiday activities for children and parents. For example, the Haus des Gastes and the Cliner Quelle spa centre offer a wide range of swimming, entertainment, and relaxation options. For instance, parents can read in peace while their children are looked after by experienced staff.

The Museum Harbour is a real gem, and there you’ll be treated to fine East Frisian maritime cuisine at various restaurants and cafés, for example.

At the Museum Harbour, you can enjoy the view of the old ships, the harbour promenade with its cafés, tea rooms, and restaurants, as well as the paddle steamer Concordia II, a replica of the old Concordia I from 1854. This paddle steamer operates a shuttle service on the Harle River, taking you from the museum harbour past the Haus des Gastes, through the Friedrichsschleuse lock, and on to the marina in Harlesiel on the North Sea.

Of course, the whole family loves going to the beautiful beach here, but you can also go swimming at the saltwater indoor pool (paddling pool, sauna, tanning beds, beauty and wellness area, and the popular “Moonlight Swim” once a week). Or, in the summer, you can visit the heated seawater outdoor pool in Harlesiel. For children, growing teens, and really the whole family, there’s the Happy Family Club with programmes and plenty of ideas. On holiday in Carolinensiel, there’s always something to do—whether it’s sports and games, entertainment, or relaxation.

Of course, in Caro—as the locals affectionately call this beautiful place—you’ll also find everything you need for daily life: supermarkets large and small, a pharmacy, a bakery, a hair salon, a savings bank, and many shops with a wide selection of maritime trinkets—or, most importantly, swimming costumes, sun cream, and a shovel for the beach.

A day trip to one of the East Frisian islands is always a special recommendation—from here, the best option is to head from Harlesiel to Wangerooge with its beautiful lighthouse. Or you can simply take off from our small airfield for a sightseeing flight over the dikes, the North Sea, and the islands.

Our farm itself is just within the boundaries of the Wangerland municipality, which also has a lot to offer tourists. Nearby, you’ll find a whole range of excellent seafood restaurants and many other tourist attractions.

For example, you’ll find plenty of shopping options nearby in the climatic health resort of Hohenkirchen, the heart of the Wangerland region. That’s also where you’ll find the Nordsee Spielstadt Wangerland, a large recreational area with many attractions for all ages.

The best way to reach the beautiful, expansive sandy beach at Schillig is probably by bike on a scenic ride along the dike. The North Sea spa town of Horumersiel-Schillig is about 15 kilometres away and is one of Germany’s most popular holiday destinations. Here you’ll find a wide range of tourist attractions, including the Friesland-Therme, an adventure and leisure water park. This facility is fed by a brine well 160 metres deep. The spa also features a sauna area with a log cabin sauna, a Finnish sauna, a steam room, and a sauna garden. Guests can access the spacious outdoor area via a kind of canal. The outdoor pool is open year-round!

Hooksiel is a bit further away. From Hooksiel, you can go on a deep-sea fishing trip or explore the historic town centre with its listed harbour, or visit the former town hall with its striking onion-domed tower, which is now used as an artists’ house. Hooksiel used to be an important transshipment port for the town of Jever and is now also an attractive tourist destination—for example, with a large, fine-sand beach (including a nudist section), a seawater indoor wave pool, and a playhouse for guests and children.

One of the largest land reclamation projects in Germany created approximately 240 hectares of land for a large recreational area. Here lies a 60-hectare artificial inland lake known as the Hooksmeer. The Hooksmeer features a sailing school, pedal boat rentals, a surfing cove with a surf school, marinas, and a fantastic water ski lift. You’ll also find hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, a trotting track, tennis courts, and much more at the Hooksmeer.

At Hof Tjarks, you can enjoy a peaceful holiday and truly unwind. And you can take advantage of a wide range of great holiday activities available in the surrounding area. If you’d like, you can experience something different every day. Or you can simply take a short bike ride through the beautiful meadows, fields, and pastures, sit in the garden to read or have a barbecue, or just relax while sunbathing. It’s entirely up to you.
