Our stay at the knotty pine cabin

Overall, a great three day vacation. The largest bedroom with the queen size bed was pretty small, but the bed was very comfortable.

We were looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy the lake. The view was outstanding and the cottage supplied everything we needed. We will keep this cabin on our Up North radar.

Amazing little cottage on the lake!

Beautiful view in a quiet little town and if you are into golf there are quite a few extremely nice courses out that way! We played white pine national and red hawk golf club and they were the two nicest courses we have played in Michigan so far! Awesome small town bars and beautiful almost everywhere you drive! Will definitely be coming back when the warmer weather hits again!

Fall Colors Getaway

Cabin is spacious and clean. Great location and comfortable beds. Nice deck and gas grill although we didn't use the propane grill, it's nice to know it's there for possible future stay. Loved the fireplace. Sofa was rough on our backs but chairs were comfy. Check out time being 10AM is a bit early, 11AM would be much more accommodating.

Great cabin with everything you need

This cabin was everything the listing said and more. Peaceful, quiet yet close to a store if you need anything. Owner even had treats set out for us in a welcome basket. The cabin was comfortable with an "up north atmosphere" that had all the conveniences of home. Good blue gill fishing in the lake.

Charming Log Cabin

Our visit was just what we needed: cozy comfort with a great kitchen (well stocked) and a lovely lake view (when the fog lifted!) We truly RELAXED and enjoyed hiking at Lake Huron and Reid Lake Foot Travel areas. Nice welcome basket too! We especially liked the beautiful stone fireplace (fitted with gas) and were impressed by the craftsmanship of the stonework and the beamed ceilings. We would like to go back.

Beautiful view

The rustic cottage had everything you needed to enjoy your trip - the interior was clean and tidy, had a kitchen stocked with pots/pans/utensils, and just enough space to fit six people comfortably. The lawn was amazing and allowed us to play plenty of outdoor games, and the water views were gorgeous. The kayak left at the waterfront was great fun and allowed us to cruise around the lake.

Nice relaxing getaway

Nice little cabin on Jewel lake. We enjoyed relaxing by the water and walking along nearby trails in Huron National Forest. The cabin is well maintained and clean, and was very well stocked including a welcome basket with snacks which was a nice touch. Only thing to note is that during the week there aren't any restaurant options (there were menus for pizza but we found out the hard way that the places don't serve it during the week, at least during this time of year). So plan to prepare all of your meals unless you want to drive 20 minutes. All in all a great stay.

Relaxing Week

Enjoyed our stay. Great host. Lovely house/cabin. Very nice property. Welcome basket was great extra. Bedrooms both very tight. On the water so fishing was very convenient. Would have liked the boats that were included to be in the water. They were pulled up on shore and didn't use them. Would consider staying again. Also, it rained everyday except 2 during the week..TV and internet helped to get thru the week. Not real convenient for stores etc

Faster too Thank thank you again Our next visit won’t come soon enough!! Your welcome basket was so cute and.KIND We truly have been telling everyone how much we loved it! Our thanks again! KNOTTY PINE RETREAT Oct 20-23 2017

Debbie, Tiffy the yorkie & I had a excellent time @ the Knotty Pine Retreat! The cabin was clean & had everything needed (except more than 3 channels on the TV)! The sunsets were amazing along with the very beautiful Jewell Lake & we even played a game of Cherryopoly one night which was a lot of fun. The small town of Barton City was very friendly & the B.C General store had anything else we'd forgotten to bring along! We plan on making a return visit hopefully during the summer months. Thank-you so much Ken & Michelle for sharing your awesome cabin with us. I would recommend this cabin for a party of 2 or 4 & its a great place to relax & take in the beauty of northern Michigan!!! No Fireworks

All-in-all it was an enjoyable stay. However, the listing inferred we could watch fireworks from the lake front property. That was the primary reason I selected it. We shared the home with our aging parents and making memories is really important to me. So when we couldn't see the fireworks...and by the time we realized it there wasn't time to find a place to view the fireworks. When my wife communicated this to the owners, apparently they already knew this. The week was good despite this "over sight".

All we hoped for and more!

I booked this property in 2019 in the hope of escaping the August heat of NC in 2020; little did I know that 2020 would be fraught with the profound loss of a beloved pet coupled with the stress of the COVID insanity. Our ten day visit provided EXACTLY the peace and tranquility we both needed beyond our expectations! The property is simply beautiful, exceptionally clean, and Ken and Michelle were extraordinary hosts meeting our every need. We enjoyed meeting our neighbors and made a new, wonderful friend of one of our host’s relatives. Our morning coffee ritual on the swing overlooking beautiful Jewel Lake was exactly the balm our spirits needed. We discussed returning the entire ride back to NC,.....it was THAT wonderful! Thank you Ken and Michelle! PS The thoughtful welcome basket was just lovely!

About the host

Hi, I am Ken, and with my wife Michelle, we are offering this cabin for rent. We live in South Lyon and are 'up north' most weekends (we have a cabin across the lake from this rental). We have 2 college age boys and 2 English Setters.

Why they chose this property

Michelle and I purchased this cabin in the fall of 2013 to 'keep it in the family'. We built a cabin on the other side of the lake in 2000, however from the time I was a baby I was coming up to this 'side of the lake'. This cabin is next to other family members and was very important to us to keep it in the family. I have 2 boys that will eventually end up with this place. In the interim we have chosen to rent this so others can enjoy the area/cabin/lake as I have for 50yrs.

What makes this property unique

This is a very family friendly location. Lots of room to enjoy the outdoors with the large lot, fire pit, deck, lakeside bench. There is a hiking trail around the lake, accessible from the end of the road, as well as Reid Lake nature area 3miles away. The 'ball diamond' is located in the park 1 block away with 'old fashion' playground equipment, a basketball court, horseshoe pits and is the 'center' of the Biggest 4th in the North.
