About this property

Hubbard Lake West Shore Lakefront Cottage with stunning view

Owned by an artist, this 2-1/2 acre wooded property is a perfect peaceful creative getaway! The 800 square foot Acorn Cottage is tucked in the shade approximately 60 feet from the waters edge. It offers a large carpeted bedroom with a king size temperpedic bed where you wake looking out the bay window at the foot of the bed to the sunrise shining! A pocket door separates the bedroom from the kitchenette where there is a small table for two, a closet stocked with kitchen essentials, a butcher block work surface with a drip coffee maker and toaster oven, a kitchenette with a microwave, two electric burners, sink and small undercounter fridge for beverages. Close by is another large full refrigerator for more cold storage. Off the kitchenette is the full bath with a corner shower, toilet and vanity sink. You have lots of light and a vent fan that blows heat on a chilly morning! The BEST part is the 16' x 20' porch! Here is where you wil spend most of your time. A large table provides space for puzzles and games. Snuggle on the comfy sofa while watching a movie on Netflix (provided) on our smart TV or stream your own services on our Apple TV. There is a small writing desk and chair for capturing your thoughts in a journal. We love games! So we proved a shelfing unit with many of the popular board games you love. Full casement windows with screens maximize the view of the lake and can be opened for a breezy feel or kept closed for the central air or heat whichever you prefer. Pull down blinds are on each window for privacy. Free WiFi and a provided Alexa makes the Acorn Cottage as connected as you want to be. Or turn everything off, open the windows and listen to the birds singing and the rustle of the leaves in the breeze. Off the porch there are four steps to the stone path where your grill is found and so many more activities! Immerse yourself in a good book, sleep til noon, toast s'mores by the campfire, listen to the waves lapping the shore, sun on a warm blanket in the grass, swim in the 10th largest fresh water lake in Michigan, rise with the sun and the loons, slip out for a kayak outing in the morning when the lake is like glass, take a walk or bike ride down the lightly traveled lake road. It is Pure Michigan here at Hubbard Lake where you hear the coined phrase "Hubbard Lake Happy" often! Close to home, Alpena (20 miles) is a picturesque town nestled in Thunder Bay full of art, culture and dining. Examples are; Art in the Loft, Thunder Bay Art Gallery, Thunder Bay Theater or Alpena Civic Theater. Local history can be found at the Besser Museum and Alpena Shipwreck Tours. Take a glass bottom boat tour! For dining, we have local dining around the lake ranging from pub to fine dining lakeside or venture to our area's towns to explore. The Owner will provide you with a full list of the area's treasured beverage and dining spots! Like to golf? White Pine National Golf Course is just 4 miles away. A challenging 18 holes course in the peaceful woods of Northern Michigan. For day trips travel two hours to Mackinaw City where you can take a short ferry to Mackinaw Island or be more adventuresome and cross the Mackinaw Bridge to the Upper Peninsula. Travel west to Gaylord to see the Elk or in the winter explore our many ski resorts.

The Owner, is a professional artist, oil painter, who lives, on the property in the main house located on the same property as the Acorn Cottage just a short distance away... She manages her studio business from the main house. Come and stay and visit with a local artist and find inspiration from the lake she calls home. You will soon understand why the phrase 'Hubbard Lake Happy' is what residents and vacationers say to capture the essence of this little piece of paradise.

Why they chose this property

The 2-1/2 acre wooded property spans 175 feet of lakefront and has more than 90 oak trees for cool shade in the hot summer... the property is named "Mighty Oaks" which is how the Acorn Cottage got it's name. As the smaller cozy cottage near the main house it seemed appropriate to call it the Acorn Cottage. Come in beauty of fall and you may hear an acorn or two ping on the porch's metal roof! You have full access to the docks, boathouse deck, fire pit, and water toys in the boathouse such as kayaks, inflatables, life jackets and paddle board. We suggest bringing water shoes if entering the water from the shoreline where there will be about two feet of the most colorful lake stones you can imagine. You may be lucky enough to find a petoskey stone (fossilized coral). Just past this the lake turns to fine sand and the water is crystal clear for swimming. We boast you can see the bottom even 25 feet out. The Owner lives quietly in the main house and is always avaiilable for local information on sights and dining. Once you book, a full document of things to do, places to go, restaurants and where to find provisions will be sent to you. That said, there may be times when she has family visiting and you may share the lawn and waterfront. But they are a fun bunch and there is plenty of lush green lawn and shade to share.

What makes this property unique

The Acorn Cottage is a private, quiet, inspiring lakefront retreat getaway that feeds your soul with its stunning views to the north and south. The crystal clear cool fresh water for swimming and water fun reaches 75 degrees plus in the middle of summer. The Sun rises right in front of the cottage and you may even be lucky enough to catch a full moon rise! The property has been in our family for 25 years. My father named it "Mighty Oaks" with it's more than 90 oak trees on the irrigated lush green lawn. This property captured our hearts the moment we saw it!
