The house on the Bras d'Or - time out in Canada's natural paradise on Cape Breton Island
This dream home is situated in an exceptionally beautiful location right on the shore of Bras'Or Lake in the protected West Bay. We offer comfortable accommodation for up to 6 (max. 8) people in our lovingly maintained log cabin. Enjoy the view of the water from the terrace. Fishing, hiking, canoeing, and wildlife watching will fill your day. The legendary Cabot Trail, one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world, begins just a few miles to the north. End the evening by the campfire—and come back again!
The Accommodation The house on Bras d’Or is nestled in 18,000 m² of birch and spruce forest. Private access to Bras d’Or is just a few metres from the front door.
Our lovingly renovated dream home accommodates up to 6 (max. 8) adults. An inflatable air mattress is also available, as well as space for a cot, so that a slightly larger group consisting of “smaller people” can also be accommodated. Two of the bedrooms [with one king-size (190 x 200) bed and one queen-size (150 x 200) bed] are located on the main level. The third bedroom, with two single beds and a loft bed, is located on the lower level. One bathroom is located on the main level; the second bathroom is on the lower level.
The house provides the perfect setting to unwind and “find yourself” in life and within yourself.
Simply sit on the terrace and take in the beauty of nature. Let the majestic view of the lake wash over you in total silence.
Starting in July 2025, you can also admire the artwork ESONIO by artist Aurelia Wasser from the terrace. Simply breathtaking!
Or enjoy the breathtaking nature while fishing, hiking, canoeing, or participating in other outdoor activities right on your doorstep. If you bring binoculars or a camera, you can spend the whole day wildlife watching.
You can also drive a few kilometres north to where the spectacular Cabot Trail begins—a coastal road rightly considered one of the most spectacular in the world: breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, deep dark forests, and glacial rock formations. Or drive a little further into the mysterious highlands in the heart of Cape Breton. If you look around, you’ll find festivals, music, and the finest delicacies from the waters around Cape Breton Island everywhere.
End the day with an evening gathering around the campfire, where stories are shared and memories are made to last a lifetime. And when it’s time to head home, don’t be sad—take your wonderful memories with you and come back soon.
Of course, our guests are welcome to use all the kitchen equipment, Wi-Fi, bicycles, and canoes. Fishing gear may also be used, provided that any worn-out or lost items are replaced.
Guest Access We make the entire house available to our guests. Only one closet and the garage contain our personal belongings and are locked. Anything that isn’t locked is welcome to be used.
Additional Important Information We recommend purchasing groceries before arriving in Port Hawksbury or St. Peters.
Upon departure, please leave two hundred Canadian dollars in cash on the kitchen table to cover the final cleaning.
Shortly before your trip, you’ll receive access to a few videos in which we’ll provide you with some valuable tips about the house.
