Rustic gem!

Jeff and Sarah were awesome hosts. They were quick to respond, friendly, and helpful. The location was perfect for us as it was convenient to our relative and all the amenities of Petit Jean. The house was large and easily accomodated our group of 10. The house was well stocked with all we needed. We would definitely stay there again. accaaccomaccommodate

Awesome Cabin!

This is a very nice (and large) cabin with plenty of room. It was very well equipped, more so than probably any VRBO we have stayed at, which is quite a few. We had a great time exploring and finding "bear caves" with our two boys! There are many hikes and trails for beginner and experienced hikers. Our kids are almost 4 and almost 6, and could handle many of the trails. It is a beautiful place that fells like it is in the state park. I would definitely recommend this cabin!

Quaint and Comfortable Property

We had a friend-cation and our entire group LOVED the location, the hiking, fishing, swimming, etc. The property owner was responsive and friendly. Kitchen was well-stocked with basic cooking utensils, pots, and pans. A/C worked well. If cell service is top priority, you may need to travel as the location is remote and not all of us had cell service. Wi-fi is available and of moderate speed. Overall, I would highly recommend this property. It was such an enjoyable location and quaint home. We would absolutely book again.

Nice cabin, just remote enough to feel like a great get away.

Cabin was just as advertised. Just secluded enough to feel like a retreat, but WiFi and Direct TV was nice for watching the game on Saturday. Great location just 10-15 minutes from anything on the mountain. Only thing that keeps this from a full 5 stars would be the grills outside really need some work. They were in rough shape, but still usable if you're careful. Overall, it was a nice weekend and we enjoyed our stay. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a place on the mountain.

Secluded, private and lots of options

We had a wonderful time at the Rock house. Kids loved the wi. We had to buy batteries because they played so much. Our grands and us had a boos time. Need more wash clothes. Space was good for 8 of us. We would recommend anyone to come to relax. We never found the hot tub.

Rocking in the Rock House

Great private setting. Teens enjoyed fire bit and hiking trails. Master bed was wonderful although the others were a little uncomfortable. Could use more silver ware ( utensils)and a can opener. Over all I would recommend this property for other travelers. We saw a deer in back yard and other wildlife on trails. This was most enjoyable.. The kitchen was well equipped with various kitchen aides. Plenty of towels.sheets, and blankets. Washer And dryer was a much needed essential with children. Thanks for a wonderful vacation.

COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR MORE.

This was the PERFECT place to stay during our vacation to Petit Jean State Park. The home had everything we needed and some. It was so nice to be able to cook daily for our family and to be able to wash clothes and towels as needed. Our children put the Wii and Netflix to good use in the afternoons. My husband enjoyed the fire pit outside as well as the fireplace inside. I especially enjoyed the jetted tub in the afternoons after long hikes. We had more than enough room for our family of 6. We spent our days exploring the different trails in the park and visiting the Museum of Automobiles, Mathers Lodge, and Horse back riding. We spent the afternoons in the home and I never once heard anyone say that they were bored. If we ever visit the park again we will be staying here a second time!

Construction site basically

Workers there when checked in. Dust from wood cutting and grout from floors being redone nails sticking out of wall. Trash bins full .. property owner very vague about the remodel and a miscommunication on the refund and then trying to charge for their workers leaving the trash bins full with no place to put its tried to be reasonable with them and not be a complainer until they tried to get greedy and charge me 100$ for trash being left in the only place left to leave which was a metal can we had to find to put it in. Then going back and forth with them for them to be rude and say I am looking for a free stay when I have rented the place before th no problems because it wasn’t being remodeled and a construction site at that time they got greedy trying to rent it out and fix their problems off someone else’s dime.

Disappointing stay; left early

We wanted to love this property; however, everything about it just disappointed. The master bedroom surprised us with a mouse and rat poison in the bed. Being in the woods, a mouse is unsettling, but not unheard of; however, the poison being in the bed where our small child could potentially ingest it was unacceptable. The house had poison packets throughout, indicating that this was a problem the home owners were facing. All of the beds were worn out and uncomfortable, they literally are sunken in the middle with a visible concavity. After abandoning the master bedroom, we tried to sleep in a full sized bed. My husband and I kept sliding into each other and were unable to sleep. We settled on the hide-a-bed in the living area. The house itself is very neat and interesting, and in a great location. It was a bit dingy, and could have used a better cleaning job. We had booked for three nights and stayed two. The only reason we stayed the second night was to allow our children time to enjoy the beautiful park that is Petit Jean.

Great location!

The location was our favorite part of our stay!! It’s very close to lots of great things, including the turtle rocks that we loved! We had a couple complaints, the Wii wouldn’t read any of the games and my kids were disappointed about that and our kids said that 2 of the bunk bed room mattresses had really uncomfortable springs in their backs all night. Overall, it was a nice stay for our group of 12!

Could no beat this location.

Great location within the Petite Jean Park. The property was great with big open yard for kids to play and a nice fire ring. Owner was responsive but we did not really need anything. Would stay there again. My only complaints was the grill was basically unusable(burners rusted out and very uneven flames) without a grill top skillet I had and their pots and pans could be improved to make cooking more pleasant. Also the kids complained about mattresses in their room with bunks and trundle. I agreed with them as I could feel springs on some more than others. Other bedrooms were good. Like I said I would stay there again but just some minor stuff to make things usable and comfortable.

About the host

Hosted by Jeff and Sarah Croswell

Host profile image
Meet the Croswell Crew and welcome to our family's Peace of Petit Jean! We are Jeff and Sarah Croswell, both native Arkansans, along with our seven (that’s right, 7!) wonderful children. Jeff, a graduate of University of Arkansas, is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones and a Rotarian. Sarah is an Director of Curriculum for Ki Charter.

Why they chose this property

The Rock House Cabin was our main residence until 2014, when we moved into town to be closer for all the children's activities. At one time this property served as home to Turtle Rock Farms--our family's Certified Naturally Grown pastured poultry and heirloom tomato farm and greenhouse. Petit Jean Mountain was always our favorite summer destination, so when we had the opportunity to purchase a cabin, we jumped on it. While remodeling, our family fell in love with the idea of living here more than just on the weekends, so we sold our house in Conway and made the move permanent. The original cabin had two bedrooms, one bath, one closet, and no flooring or central heat and air. In order to accommodate a family of our size, we added two bedrooms, two baths, several closets, central heat & air, two porches, new windows, flooring, a laundry room, siding, and remodeled the kitchen. This property has been a labor of love for us and we hope to always keep it in our family for getaways, parties, and reunions. Sharing the Rock House Cabin with others will ensure that our family's Peace of Petit Jean will be around for years to come.

What makes this property unique

The location is un-matched and if you look closely you can see the natural rock walls modeled after the CCC buildings located within the state park.
