The Summer House on the Island of Tybee is located in a quiet friendly neighborhood, within walking distance to almost everything on the island. The house is a circa 1925 home that has been lovingly restored to keep up with the times, but retains 'The Summer House' charm. The caretaker lives on the property in the lower level. There are three porches, a porch swing, an outdoor shower, a small yard and gardens to enjoy. Bicycles and pedestrians walk on the street, the market is a few doors away, the beach which is 1 1/2 blocks away is the most favored on the island. There are cabs to take you most anywhere else on the island. The house is bright and airy. It has 2 bedrooms. No. 1 has a queen bed. No. 2 has two bunk beds all twin sized and sleeps 4. There is one bath that has a tub/shower, there is an outdoor shower under the back stairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the conveniences of your own home, there is even a drawer full of spices for your use. Amenities include, TV, internet, an assortment of toys and games for beach and home. The home is centrally cooled with ceiling fans in each room, with the exception of the bunk room which has a portable fan. The is a wagon to take to the beach and a wheeled cart as well. There are toys for the beach, chairs, and an umbrella, for your enjoyment. I live in the house as well, in the first level. We share the driveway, laundry room and back patio. I am excited to have visitors -if I don't hear you, I don't think you are having fun!

Adorable cottage in the heart of Tybee, conveniently located to everything on the island. Ms. Caren is a wonderful hostess who truly makes you feel at home. The cottage has everything you need, just pack your bathing suit and towel!
Location is amazing. Close to ocean. Bonus having grocery store close. Fair price for what you get. Host was very sweet and relaxed. This is definitely a quaint place as advertised. Bathroom was very small. Kitchen had updated appliances. Everything else was suitable. We enjoyed our stay!
Our 5-day stay at the Summer House was wonderful! A few things could use some TLC: beach equipment, light fixtures, but overall, a super cute place with great decor. Screened in porch is nice. Caren is very nice, helpful, and informative. Would return.
We had such a great experience staying here for our first visit to Tybee Island! The home was clean, cozy, and perfectly located for beach access and exploring the island. Our host was kind and welcoming and we truly appreciated her hospitality and how thoughtfully the space was set up for guests.Traveling with three kids, we were especially thankful for the comfortable accommodations and peaceful environment. Even though the host lives on the lower level, we never felt like we were intruding, and we hope we weren’t too loud! This stay made our trip feel extra special, and we’d absolutely love to return. Highly recommend this VRBO to anyone visiting the island—thank you for such a memorable and relaxing getaway!
We loved staying at this sweet little cottage, it was clean well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. It was great to be able to walk one block to the beach and having the grocery store so close another plus. Caren was very helpful and lovely to meet.
My daughter, sister, and I enjoyed staying in this sweet cottage! The home is great for a small, young family. It’s a quick walk to the beach and Ms. Caren has plenty of beach supplies for use (wagon, chairs, toys!) which makes packing simple. Overall, it was a pleasant stay!
We had a fantastic experience! The house was cozy and perfect for us, we were instantly comfortable. We spent many evenings out on the screened in porch. Super close to the beach, just a short walk. The wagon (available to use with the rental) was a lifesaver!

Thanks for the review! Tybee is a fun place to be with the right accessories, wagon, beach chairs, umbrella and toys, so glad you made use of them. Be sure to come back to Tybee again!
Very clean location, that is modestly decorated for those who don't like clutter. We were very comfortable and felt welcomed. The host, Caren is an actual doll! We were even able to visit with her and another neighbor. They showed real Southern charm and made us feel like we were in a cozy novel. Very charming atmosphere, with the exception of the local grocery that is nearby. But we can't fault the host for the early morning delivery trucks and for lifts. We simply got up and took the short walk to the beach and enjoyed the sunrise.
This place was perfect for us - clean, close to the beach, close to the grocery store - with everything we needed for a long weekend get-away. We *really* appreciated the beach toys, umbrellas, & chairs in the closet downstairs (and the hose & bucket for washing off!). There were two families of 3 on our trip so it was great that one family got the downstairs and the other go the upstairs. It was also pretty perfectly set up for the two toddlers we had with us - there were toys in one bookcase and nothing too breakable that they could damage! We would definitely book this place again.
We had an absolutely fantastic time! There is nothing bad to say about our stay at all! The location is perfect, the neighborhood is perfect, and the privacy is perfect. For anyone who is not considering staying here because the host lives nearby, do NOT LET THAT STOP YOU from enjoying this property! I have four small kids, extremely loud and rambunctious, the kind you have to apologize to your neighbors about. Not once did they seem to even phase Mrs. Caren at all! Affordability, proximity to the store and the beach, and the fact that the 11th street beach access is the least populated access in the area make this property a hidden Gem. If its available, BOOK IT! We will be coming back next year for sure!

Not exactly what we hoped for
While I love the location of the house, many things about it were disappointing. When we arrived the house was set at 78 degrees at which time we quickly discovered that the ceiling fan in the bunk room didn't work and the air conditioner water drain dripped (alot) right at the front door. Making it dangerous and messy as we tracked water in the house with each trip. The house has ONE toilet and one indoor shower. The listing says 1 1/2 baths which traditionally means 2 total toilets and one shower. The outdoor shower felt gross due to the weeds growing up through the decking and questionable drainage (i.e. mosquito heaven) but I guess one cant expect much from an outdoor shower. The grills were unusable due to extensive rusting making them unsafe to cook on. The parking situation was also not clear with different allowances for the numbers of cars in different documents which meant paying for parking for the entire trip which was not anticipated. One did not feel welcomed by the mismatched towels. There were two true bath towels and four thin beach towels AND THAT WAS ALL. When at the beach, many showers are needed and taken....more towels are required. Furthermore there were maybe 5 wash cloths that were again, mismatched and bleach stained...again lots more wash cloths are needed with six guests taking lots of showers. The one bathroom doesnt have a locking door. The kitchen was well supplied.
We'd gladly choose Caren's place again, even though (as some reviews have mentioned) it's across the street from the IGA and experiences delivery noise in the morning. That was no bother to us at all. This one checks all the boxes! Comfortable, convenient, clean, beautifully decorated, amenities like outdoor shower and beach toys, appointed well for home cooking. On top of that, we experienced great communication with the host (who was very patient with us as we couldn't make up our mind whether to come or not with a hurricane forecasted to pass through). We're so glad we did! Oh, and the master bed had the most comfortable mattress, highest quality covers, and plushest pillow of any rental we've stayed in. Perfect for a beach getaway.
The house was located close to the beach and half a block from the grocery store. So cute and lots of room. Neighborhood was safe and family friendly, we were able to let the kids bike up and down the street without worry. I loved the huge screened-in front porch, which made morning coffee so enjoyable. The host was very responsive and friendly. The only upgrade needed was the main shower, but all else was PREFECT! We will stay again, hopefully soon. :)
Four of us girls stayed here for a long weekend. The location is outstanding and the house was very comfortable. Caren was super responsive and even replaced the beach cart for us. The outside shower was awesome after being on the beach all day.
This darling beach house was located within a short walk to the beach and across from the grocery store which was perfect for picking up something quick. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
It was a very welcoming and beautiful apartment. I was slightly concerned that traffic/noise from the IGA may be too much. We live in the country and not use to noise. I was pleasantly surprised that this was minimal. It was SO relaxing. I will definitely return. Just as a side note, it has 1 full bath. No additional 1/2 bath. Not an issue to us, just wanted make others aware.
We had a great time in Tybee. This house was very conveniently located and was big enough for six of us. The screened in porch was a great place to eat dinner and enjoy the evening breezes!
A wonderful home away from home for a relaxing girls’ week
Only a block and a half from the beach in a quiet, shaded neighborhood, we completely enjoyed our stay. The screened porch was perfect for quiet mornings and fun evenings laughing and catching up. The beach chairs, wagon, and beach umbrella were much appreciated. Thank you, Caren, for a great week!

I am a busy person with lots going on! I would love to see you if you wish otherwise we will say hello in passing. Life is a beach here on Tybee with many things to do and owning a restful spot like The Summer House allows me to share it with friends and family and also with you when you visit. I enjoy hearing the patter of feet and the enjoyment of others around me.
Why they chose this property
The house is lovingly restored, integrity true to it's age. It is in my thoughts, the perfect summer house. Porches and beaded board, bright and airy, the house has many spaces and many amenities not found in modern structures. It has grace and charm of it's own. Located 1 1/2 blocks from the ocean and close to the grocery. Most everything you want on the island is within walking distance.
What makes this property unique
Gated porches (for children), an outdoor shower, porch swing. Privacy and outdoor spaces. Antique cottage with modern fixtures. Hardwood floors and ceiling fans. A comfortable place to take your shoes off. Clean and lived in, not overly designed.
