About this property

120Yr Old Cabin Great for couple/family, 15 min from Boone, center of 200 acres!

Located near a small creek with over 40 acres of land to explore. Trails will take you to a small private creek with native trout. From the front porch, you can see deer, turkey, and other wildlife. This rustic cabin was relocated in 1957 from the original family home place. Cabin's kitchen will meet the needs of weekend visitors with modern conveniences. The private bedroom loft offers a large window that looks over 5 acres of pasture. The living area includes a TV (for DVD's only- no satellite or cable) and assortment of DVD's and games. The main living areas has two sleeper sofas that will sleep four. We intentionally did not put Wi-Fi or Cable in the Cabin so you can truly get away. However cell service is strong so you can still receive text and voice messages.
Please note: the steps to the loft bedroom are steep.... Also, the front steps (3 steps) onto the porch are rock and the last one is higher that the first two. There is a smaller step to the right of the porch you can use to get onto the porch and into the house if needed. This cabin is not handicapped accessible...
WINTER MONTHS...IF WE HAVE A BIG DUMP OF SNOW...YOU WILL NEED 4X4 or AWD to get up the last hill......No Snow....No Problem....But if we get a lot of snow you will need a vehicle that puts traction on all 4 tires....

Very cute and cozy cabin

Weekend getaway with family — there were 5 of us and we were very cozy in the cabin with ample space for sleeping and cooking meals. Loved the peaceful location just outside of town. Cabin was very clean — check in was a breeze. Plan to stay here every year for our mountain getaway.

We absolutely LOVED our stay! Kids and pups had room to roam, felt like we were out in the middle of nowhere while still close to what we needed. We saw deer every morning and even enjoyed a hike to the falls with the best guide ever, Oreo! Already have next year booked!

College tour

Stayed here to tour App and the home was great. Loved our stay. The only thing I would offer my opinion for improvement would be a larger bed for the upstairs. We will stay here again.

Love this place

Such a great peaceful, restful, getaway spot. We love to come and just enjoy the cabin. If you wish to go into town to shop or eat it’s very close. We also love that the owners dog, Oreo spent a good amount of time laying on the porch, which makes the place feel like home.

Beautiful and Relaxing Getaway

Beautiful cabin!!! My partner and I had such a wonderful and relaxing time staying at this cabin. Very close to town, so super easy to get around, but far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown so super peaceful. Our 3 dogs loved exploring the property. 10/10 stay, can’t wait to come back again sometime soon!!!

Great getaway

My husband and i were looking for a place to get away from everything and just rest and do nothing. The cabin was the perfect spot. We had an issue with the upstairs heat when we first got there, but the owners took care of that. They were very nice and made sure we had everything we needed and knew where everything was. We didn't go anywhere, just stayed there and got the rest we needed. Great place to get away from it all. Hope to go back again sometime.

Rustic and Peaceful but the stairs

We loved the atmosphere of the place. Nice large living area. The host is excellent. Everything was perfect except the bed is upstairs, the stairs are a bit challenging and you have to go downstairs to use the bathroom. Also, the kitchen is limited so check it out before you shop.

A little piece of heaven

We were looking for a place to celebrate our 52 nd anniversary and this was our first choice. The beautiful view from the front porch drinking coffee and watching the deer wake up to exploring Boone’s Restaurants, shopping, and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. Many other thing that your host will help you find. This was our 4 th visit. Next year will be our 5 th

Fun Getaway

We totally enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We were visiting our grand daughter at App State and this was the perfect fit for us! The cabin was charming and cozy with erything that was needed. No T V or internet, however losts of time to talk, play games and just relax. We did not miss the modern convenience of TV or internet at all. Thank you for the opportunity to have quiet time away from all of the modern trappings.

The Rustic Cabin

The rustic cabin reminded me of my grandparents home there in the NC mountains. It's conveniently located to grocery store, restaurants & allowed easy access to be with family & friends. The location was very private & isolated. Favorites: sitting on front porch rocker or lying in swing reading/napping; walking the paths to the creek which our dog especially loved; watching the deer come & go throughout the day; rabbits roaming; listening to the rain on the tin roof. We loved the cabin, but will truthfully say it is not for anyone that wants to be pet & pampered but is an experience of how our ancestors lived !!

We loved this property! It was quiet, cute, everything we wanted. The problem was the toilet barely flushed and sewage was backing up into the shower. Tried to contact the owners and got a recording. Left a message and no response. Three nights without a shower. It was our 20th wedding anniversary… would definitely go back if the septic issue was fixed!

Anniversary in Boone

We both agree if we had arrived and there was only this beautiful cabin this would be a 5 star trip. However, when we arrived the cabin was beautifully decorated for Christmas with outside lights, inside decorations and a Christmas tree. The decorations were perfect and not overdone. Plus we also found a nice anniversary basket for us which was a great touch. Our only disappointment was the weather as we had hoped to have more time to explore the 200 acres at the cabin but were rained in. We did get to follow the logging trail for a bit but not as much as we had wanted. All in all if you love the mountains and staying in an old cabin this is your spot. So close to Boone and other attractions but nestled in the woods. We loved it and will be back!!

Quiet and secluded, yet 10 minutes from downtown Boone. Basic amenities, no internet, but had mostly 5g through t-mobile. I wouldnr recommend a low profile coupe or sedan, the rocky drive near the cabin would probably be a bit of a challenge

About the host

Host profile image
In 2010 Becca and I were able to take our two boys, Russell (8yrs) and Joseph(6yrs) and move back 'home' to Boone. We wanted our boys to grow up in a rural area where they could grow and explore. This property is full of history and memories that we wanted to share with our guests.

Why they chose this property

This property was sold in 1957 by Ed's Grandfather to a school teacher in Florida for a price 'no one would take'. 53 yrs later Ed and Becca were able to buy the property back and turn in to weekend/short term rentals. The property is nestled in 200 acres of family farmland. With a creek, waterfalls, and plenty area to just roam, it is a great place to just get away. The original Cabin was made from the same logs that came from the cabin Ed's dad was born in in 1924. It is a cozy place where you can just relax.

We know that family often includes the four legged kind. Our cabin has 100% rock or hardwood floors. We welcome dogs so they can too explore and see what country living is about. We are a working farm so if your dog likes to chase cattle, chickens, or other farm animals, you will need to bring a leash...

The Cabin is just 10 minutes from Boone and 20 minutes from Blowing Rock., so you are also close to the many activities the high county has to offer.

Visiting Spring,Summer, and Fall
Elk Knob State Park for hiking, the New River for Tubing/ Canoe/ Kayak are just 15 minutes away. Grand father Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Zip lining, and Parkway are only 25 minutes away.

Winter we have three ski slopes that await between 20 and 40 minutes away as well as several places to sled and tube.

What makes this property unique

The trails will lead you into the woods where you find a creek that will sooth you body and mind. The creek offers many opportunities for both young and old. With a waterfall, places for children to explore, and space for adults to reflect and relax. From the front porch you can look over the valley of Howard's creek while watching the sun rise. This is a quiet retreat where many folks have come to rest and relax. The Cabin welcomes couples and families who want to just "Un-Plug"
