We had a lovely stay at Old Sarum. It's a great place to stay to hike Art Loeb, and the porch is perfect for watching the sun come over the mountain while having a cup of coffee. It was clean and had everything we needed. The water tasted great. The ruts in the road are a bit deep for a sedan, but we made it just fine by keeping one side near the middle.
We had a great time at the cabin. The road coming in was an adventure but absolutely worth it for the incredible views from the cabin. The cabin had everything we needed and the kids loved sleeping in the loft. We hope to come back again someday!
This is the second time we have stayed here and like the first time we loved every minute of it and didn’t want to leave once we got there. Lovely place and we plan on visiting again in the future. Thank you!
Beautiful property...the view from the deck is magnificent! If you like solitude, it was very quiet and removed from any traffic or distractions, but was not inconvenient to Waynesville, which we like. Lenny was helpful and quick to respond to questions. Our only criticism was that the lower level was quite humid and a bit musty. Overall, a great trip!
The moment we walked into the cabin my grandchildren fell in love. The view is amazing the deck the primary focus. We were comfortable, and felt very safe and secure. As my youngest granddaughter stated ‘best vacation ever’. The only qualm was the drive up the mountain which was tricky in some places. But for a beach gal it soon became doable. Thank you for the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful home.
We had this trip scheduled for awhile unfortunately my significant other Christy had passed away two weeks before from metastatic cancer and a heart attack. Had two groups of friends that went with me. Best get away I ever experienced. Been nicer views of trees trimmed down and had a.c. But overall it was a 10 out of 10. Nice quiet and peaceful. It let us honor her passing in a way I didn’t know I needed

Lovely mountain cabin retreat. Peaceful with beautiful mountain veiws!
We enjoyed our stay at Old Sarum a peaceful mountain retreat. The owners did not miss anything, all of the comforts of home were available. The veiws were amazing ,at every time of day . The only reason we did not rate this property 5 stars was the driveway--a 1 mile plus "adventure" that would take just under 15 minutes to maneuver, that was with a 4 wheel drive Ford F-150 mind you. So, there really was no "popping out" for a coffee or a quick meal. Trips up and down the driveway needed to be calculated and planned. However, in some ways this added to the secluded peaceful ambiance of "Old Sarum" . Overall highly recommended if you have 4 wheel drive only!
This was a really great and memorable holiday escape!!The house is very spacious, functional, comfortable, and clean (we are friendly with ladybugs). The views are obviously gorgeous and with very little light pollution the night sky views are equally impressive as the panorama during the day.Civilization feels remote and distant. which provides for really quiet and nicely relaxing atmosphere. For those who are unwilling to disconnect from the outside world, wifi connectivity and satellite tv is readily available. The only deficiency during our stay was a total lack of snow, which actually helped to quell our concernes about driving up the mountain on a narrow road. Something for something.Dogs seemingly had good time, too, as the area is pretty pristine with all unusual smells of wildlife. We had seen one herd of elk, squirrels, and a couple of hawks. Hunting seems like a common activity in the area, and so leaving dogs usupervised outside may not be the best option.I would also like to compliment our host, Lenny, who was very helpful and promptly answered our questions. He also made sure there was ample amount of wood so we could use the fireplace on those chilly December evenings. Thank you.All in all, it is one of those places that provides for fabulous, long-lasting memories, and makes one want to return for more. I hope we will have another chance to stay at the Old Sarum in the future!
The cabin was musty, but when you went downstairs to the two bedrooms, there was an awful odor of mildew and even something else. We ran the two dehumidifiers which were in the basement, and even opened all the windows and operated a floor fan to bring in fresh air and try to eliminate the odors. In the three nights we were there, the improvement was minimal. There were also cobwebs in several areas. It has great potential if they can get rid of the odors. The loft and family room were fine and the kitchen had everything we needed. The view was to die for. It was a shame the cabin wasn’t better. If the the basement odors could be resolved, it could be a great cabin. We contacted the owner, Lenny, prior to writing this review. He stated he believed the basement issue was being managed by the cleaning crew and he would take steps to resolve the matter.
Staying at Old Sarum was really special. The cabin grew on all of us more and more each day. We REALLY enjoyed the fireplace and back porch! Including our dogs! It’s very convenient that it’s closed on both sides for the dogs to be able to enjoy it off leash. The gas grill was a pleasant surprise since it wasn’t in the photos we weren’t sure it had one until instructions for check-in were received. PLENTY OF SLEEPING SPACE!! Unfortunately most of the family wasn’t able to make it with us but this is a great cabin for a big group. The kitchen was FULLY stocked with anything and everything you might need (and all in GREAT condition). Plenty of paper towels, toilet paper, towels, dishwashing detergent, soap, shampoo, conditioner, coffee, sugar, salt, seasoning, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and even down to ziplock bags! Definitely came in handy. Communicating with Lenny was very easy, he was always available. The heating system of the cabin worked great as well. We all had a great end of the year vacation. Thank you Lenny for allowing us to have such a memorable time we can remember forever. Happy New Year!
The house was exactly as pictured. Lenny was very quick with responding. The house is extremely well stocked with everything necessary for your stay and more, which is greatly appreciated. Our family came for a short getaway after Christmas and enjoyed our time together that only thing that would have made it perfect was a little dusting of the white stuff ;)
Absolutely amazing house with a million dollar view!
The house was perfect for our long weekend in the mountains. Hands down the most unbeatable view AND awesome fireplace! House was clean, well stocked and just perfect! We will be back!
Spectacular views, great location & near Camp Daniel Boone as we required to drop our kids for their summer staff positions. It’s not a fancy cabin but a great place, with plenty of room to stage gear and play guitars and enjoy the very best coffee mornings and wine sunsets. Kitchen had everything we needed (plus everything we forgot: ketchup, napkins …) Thanks Lenny
The pictures don’t do this place justice. We enjoyed all this home had to offer. The ride up is a little tricky but it is well worth it. Will definitely be back. Thank you so much for sharing your home.
We met our family for our daughter's graduation. Pros - there was plenty of room for everyone and the views were spectacular! Cons - the one-lane rugged road to the house. The owner of the property said to try to get there during the daylight and he was completely right! Once you are at the top, you do not want to leave. Thank you for such a great weekend!
