About this property

Monthly Rental-Near Fort Worden and North Beach

Ideally located in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend, this studio apartment is light and quiet and perfect for one or two people seeking a longer stay on the Olympic Peninsula. The studio is a short walk to the beaches and forests of Fort Worden State Park and a five-minute drive to Port Townsend’s Uptown or Downtown business districts. We’re just two blocks from a bus line, in an area with bike lanes, and close to trails and beach walks. It’s a perfect place to access the Olympic National Park and Hood Canal, to attend music festivals or conferences at Centrum, or to take in a film at the restored Rose Theatre. Port Townsend is full of unique shops to browse in on rainy days as well as cafes and historical museums.

This apartment was constructed in 2007 and has all cork floors, a new queen-sized bed, living room/sitting area, bathroom with a shower/tub, and a full kitchen. Numerous large windows make for lots of light, and the neighborhood is quiet. A set of stairs accesses the apartment, which sits above a garage (used for storage). A backyard garden designed to attract songbirds, butterflies, and bees rests between the apartment and the owners’ home and there are chairs and tables available for sitting outside during warmer weather. Our adjacent property to the east includes a vegetable garden and plum tree orchard. Deer are frequent visitors around the Froggy Bottoms neighborhood, and bald eagles soar overhead. Bird species common to the garden include Anna's hummingbirds, white- and golden-crowned sparrows, cedar waxwings, rufous-sided towhees, flickers, and occasionally sharp-shinned hawks.

Ideal for singles or couples, for those looking to get to know the area or relocate to Port Townsend, and for those seeking a quiet place to read, write, and dream.

About the host

We are both writers, and one of us is also an editor while the other is a wildlife biologist. We enjoy hiking, biking, traveling, and attending plays and concerts. Since moving into our home, we have devoted many hours to the development of our garden and designed it to provide habitat to birds, bees, and butterflies. Additionally, we have a small vegetable garden where we also grow good crops of strawberries (come in June!), and raspberries and blueberries (come later in the summer!).

Why they chose this property

The Froggy Bottoms neighborhood is very quiet and feels quite rural (deer are often seen, while coyotes and raccoons can be occasionally glimpsed darting here and there). Our garden also provides food, cover, and water to birds that reside here year-round. The apartment is small and cozy; visitors say it's a great place to retreat and a space to work.

What makes this property unique

Port Townsend appeals to us because it's close enough to bigger city for plays and shopping, but much closer to the nature we love. The town itself vibrates with energy in the summer with visitors, sailors, and everyone out walking and biking. But in the quiet Northwest winter it's a charming place to settle in and appreciate the forests and farmlands of the Quimper Peninsula.
