Our Stay on the Conejos

My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay at Joe and Kass’s cabin. We are VRBO Premier Hosts and can truthfully say that their cabin was as advertised, very clean and neat, and comfy. Being right on the river was an added bonus. We would highly recommend them to anyone!

Beautiful property

This was our second time staying at the property and it was just as great as before! Clean, private, everything we needed for a great fall getaway. Property owners are very nice and helpful, we'll be back! Love the fact that no neighbors are near and the river is right in front of the cabin.

Mogote Cabin

We have stayed at the Conejos cabin many times. This visit was excellent as usual. Cabin very comfortable and quite clean. We volunteered for the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad during the week and spent relaxing evenings sitting by the Conejos River.

Family get together

Joe and Kass thank you so much for a great stay! We had a family gathering while here and spent very afternoon and evening entertaining family, cooking both in the kitchen and outside, and visiting. Great location and set up for anyone who wants to enjoy themselves and relax! Great job Joe Kass.

Great Hunting access

Being 66 years old I almost found the cabin more inviting than the elk hunt at Osier Mountain. I have hunted the area for 35 years. Best accommodations I have had hunting. Great place to stay for the train ride.

Wonderful Family Cabin

The cabin had everything we needed and more. The location near the river made our late afternoons sitting on the nice porch very relaxing. There are lots of trees on the property that kept the property cool. This is the first time my wife has stayed on a Vrbo property and she had reservations, but she was extremely happy. We highly recommend this cabin and will plan another trip here.

Cabin getaway

We were looking for a cabin to share Christmas with our combined family and WOW, was this perfect. It was rustic but cozy and exactly what we were looking for. We loved that there was no TV, just views and space to hang out. The owners were helpful and answered questions the day of our check-in. It was an amazing place and we hope to stay there again. My only suggestion is to bring all of your basic food items (limited resources in town if you forget things) and bring ear plugs if you are sleeping upstairs with snoring family members...

Antonito

Beautiful property, clean and organized. We chose it because of its river front We are fishermen but found out late that guests are not allowed to fish there. So extremely disappointing. Pay close attention to what you rent.

Cozy Cabin

The cabin was warm and cozy, allowing us to enjoy the snow outside knowing that it would provide a nice rest after. The wood stove was especially fun and easy to use, and it was cool to see since it's not something you typically find. If you would like to watch movies or shows while you're staying here, I'd recommend bringing your own TV and laptop to connect. Although there aren't many restaurants in the small town of Antonito, definitely check out Dos Hermanas for authentic Mexican food that's fresh and delicious. Side note, there are no washer or dryer in the house, but a laundromat is very close by in Antonito. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! If you're looking for a quiet getaway surrounded by lovely mountains, this is the perfect spot.

Wonderful cabin on the beautiful Conejos River

This is a wonderfully special property on the banks of the Conejos River; the owners were very pleasant to work with. The property had everything we needed in the kitchen, and the hot showers after a long day on the river was a great treat. I loved that there was no t.v.; it really was nice to unwind without the distraction. Very well maintained and clean. The property is in Mogote, CO, so it is about ten minutes into Antonito and about thirty minutes to the cutoff to Platoro. The only thing lacking was a grill, but it wasn't an issue for us, a nice-to-have, not a must have here. I would recommend this property for a family, fishing group, or retreat. New property.

Truly beautiful cabin, great for families

The photos of the cabin do not do it justice. It’s such a beautiful cabin, very clean and well kept. One bathroom has a tub, which was great for the kiddo. We played poker and other games they had available. The sound of the river just a few steps away was a highlight of the trip. We do wish you could just pay a rod fee to fish on the property without hiring a guide everyday, but definitely understand the reason they require guides. Water temps and levels need to be monitored closely in certain conditions. The owners were very helpful and we appreciate Joe and Kass opening up thier cabin to guests. We hope to be back! -Wilsons

Great location....house needs some fix-ups.

PROS - This house is located on a really gorgeous property. My family of 6 spent 4 days/nights here, and we really enjoyed our stay. The weather was amazing - some tiny afternoons showers everyday that cooled everything off - cool mornings and nice nights! The closest towns, Antonito and Alamosa don't really have much to offer though. If you are looking for a cute town nearby to walk around and eat/shop, you need to drive to Salida which is 2 hours away. We did that one day and had a great time! CONS - House had some problems that were issues for us....might not be a problem for others though. 1.) No dishwasher or disposal. This was hard for me to feed my family of 6. Bring paper plates, cups, and silverware if you plan on eating at the house a bunch. 2.) There were no curtains or blinds on any bedroom windows. We were awake at 6:15 every morning. :( 3.) The washer/dryer needs to be replaced if you want to do laundry. Washer lid doesn't work properly and the dryer knob was completely broken off so I had to drip-dry everything. 4.) Hot water heater would shut off about every 5th shower. Had to be reset. Not a big deal, unless you are already in the shower and your water suddenly goes from hot to freezing. 5.) Tons of mosquitos. Certainly not the owners' fault.....just something to think about. Bring lots of bug repellant if you want to enjoy the covered patio or nice fire pit. Overall, I really enjoyed my vacation. Just wish the house was a little more accomodating.

Hunting

My son drew a youth hunt in Tres Pierdas, with the cold temperatures we wanted to stay somewhere nearby, warm and comfortable. This cabin did not disappoint, it was cozy, spacious and a perfect fit for our family of 7. There’s plenty to do with or without the provided Wi-Fi, board games, card games, outdoor fire pit, or simply sight-seeing near the river. We enjoyed our stay, my son was able to fill his tag and we hope to come back again in the summer or on the next hunt. Thank you for the awesome place and the memories!

About the host

Host profile image
Kass and I are avid outdoor enthusiasts. We love spending as much time as possible at our cabin, and enjoy every moment. When not at our home or our cabin, you can find us fishing, hiking, camping, rafting across Colorado and other western states.

Why they chose this property

Mogote is a true jumping spot to all that Southern Colorado has to offer. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle, that it begs for folks to come and relax.

With ample activities close by throughout the year, there is always something to do. During the warm months, the cabin is a great spot to enjoy the plentiful sunshine while:
-Fishing on miles and miles of both public and private water
-Hiking/Backpacking on endless trails to remote areas of the South San Juan Wilderness
-Hunting (Located in Colorado GMU 81, and 10 minutes from New Mexico unit 52)
-Four Wheeling

During the winter, there is no better place to stay in order to be close to:
-Snowmobiling (Cumbres Pass is ~30 minutes away and Chama, New Mexico is about 45 minutes)
-Cross County Skiing
-Snow Shoeing

What makes this property unique

The Conejos River offers miles and miles of public water from the cabin up toward Platoro Reservoir. There are also numerous private water locations which offer unique chances to catch some of the largest rainbow and brown trout in the state. Fly fishing is available at the cabin, but requires paying a rod fee and hiring a guide. Please let us know if you intend to fish at the property, so we can ensure availability and booking of your guide.

There are also countless hunting opportunities nearby. Being only 10 minutes from the New Mexico border, this cabin offers a great location for both Colorado and New Mexico hunters.

Other outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy beautiful cycling, hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and more.
