Many thanks to Sarah and Tim for providing a great rural retreat in a picturesque farming area, not far from many tourist highlights. The Gite was exactly as described, very clean and comfortable, and very quiet except for the birds and farm animals. Sarah and Tim were wonderful hosts, and the property is a credit to them both. Highly recommended.
We were looking for a relaxing holiday in a lovely authentic Gite in a beautiful rural Dordogne location. This is exactly what we experienced. The owners Tim and Sarah could not have done more to make us feel welcome. They were always available to offer advice as to where to visit, and added much humour to our stay with many interesting and funny tales of their time in France. The swimming pool was crystal clear, warm and private. This was a holiday we will always remember. Thanks Tim and Sarah 🙂
We had an absolutely wonderful stay in Villamblard. Our little house was practical and cool with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was incredibly relaxing to sit out in our little front garden and watch the swallows swooping over the flowers. The pool and main garden were lovely to spend time in too.
Sarah and Tim were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and being included in the animals' routine was an absolute highlight for our 11 year old. She loved getting to know the horses, ducks and chickens over our stay and playing with their lovely dog Tia. Sarah and Tim struck just the right balance in being available for advice and sharing their wonderful home, and letting us enjoy the seclusion of the magnificent views across the valley.
The farmstead itself is a short drive from the village and well placed for exploring the area. We particularly enjoyed visiting the little (and not so little) markets in nearby towns, finding beautiful secluded wild swimming spots, and canoeing at Limeuil. However, spending time at Trois Maisons was the absolute highlight. We only wish we could have stayed longer.
If you enjoy a bit of rural life, this is the place to be
The houses are basic, but nice and cool when it's hot, with a perfect shower, simple kitchen; all you need is there

Lovely quiet location
My husband and I have recently returned from a lovely week staying in one of the three gites. They are comfortable and well equipped, with the added bonus of fresh egs, garden produce and local wine. The gardens and pool are well maintained and spacious with plenty of seating areas either to soak up the sun or seek some shade with the added bonus of beautiful views of the surounding countryside.
There is a nearby village with store and bakery. The local markets are a treat with lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, cheeses etc..
Sarah and Tim are delightful hosts, welcoming, friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure we had a great time.
There are plenty of places to visit, without the traffic congestion of U.K.
We would definitely recommend "Trois Maisons" and hope to revisit to enjoy this beautiful area.

Ideal carefree country holiday
In late summer 2018 out family arrived at Trois Maisons, a small farm on rising ground in beautiful countryside, close by the forest. On arrival a warm welcome from our hosts Sarah and Tim soon made us feel at home. Sympathetic renovation of the cottages respectsntheir history, and now provides clean, comfortable, practical and well equipped living. The grandchildren soon slipped off to explore farming life in a carefree, traffic free environment. There was plenty of information on things to do and places to go. A wide choice for a three generation family.

Relaxed and refreshed
Just returned from a lovely week staying at the above property. The simple gites are comfortable and equipped with everything necessary; with the added bonus of fresh eggs, garden produce and local wine also available. The gardens and pool are well maintained, spacious with plenty of seating areas either to soak up the sun or seek some shade, plus beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The property is in a quiet, rural location but with local towns and villages easily accessible. The local markets are a real treat too. Sarah and Tim are delightful hosts, welcoming, friendly and available to offer assistance as required. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again to further visit the beautiful Dordogne area.

We have been returning year after year
We first booked at Trois Maisons 7 years ago, on a spur of the moment. Our children were 5 and 3 at the time and loved every minute. Now it feels like visiting family. Tim, Sarah and Mini (the dog) are welcoming, friendly and kind. The gites are rural but well placed and the fact there is no TV means our girls have a proper outside life. They help Sarah feed the animals (by choice) and have now graduated to driving a quad bike whilst "cleaning" the paddocks! I cant even get them to tidy their rooms at home.
We have stayed in all of the gites over the years and never been disappointed. What is nice is that you know Tim & Sarah built everything themselves - they even have the video to prove it. The beds are comfy, the kitchens well equipped but all you really need are the BBQ's in the private patios. The swimming pool is great - even with 3 families sharing we have never felt uncomfortable and always had a sun lounger. Everywhere is spotless and homely.
Villamblard is a quiet pretty village. Even after 7 years of holidays we still haven't seen everything the area has to offer. There are two really good local swimming lakes both with sand and one with a water slide. Both have restaurants. There are great tourist attractions, the canoeing (Try Canoe Eric in La Bugue), Sarlat, and many other places. Eating out is a culinary adventure and we have our favourites in Perigeux.
We asked the children last year, near the end of our holiday, if they wanted to try another country next time. "What, as well as going to Tim & Sarah's?"they said, when I said "No instead of" they looked at me as if I were mad and said "Don't be silly Mummy. Mini would be sad if we didn't come and throw her a pine cone" We booked before we left!

a good holiday
We have frequently stayed with Tim and Sarah and as lovers of the countryside and animals we found it perfect. Tim and Sarah are very friendly and welcoming and do all they possibly can to ensure a good holiday. Fields and woodland surround he gite, much of it owned by Tim and Sarah so there’s plenty of wonderful walks. If it is too hot there is always the swimming pool! And a glass or two of wine
A wonderful relaxing place to stay with excellent hosts and in our view it well deserves the five stars

A beautiful cottage in a lovely location
We had an amazing time at Trois maisons. The cottages are set in a beautiful location surrounded by countryside. We stayed in school cottage which has 1 double bedroom, but was big enough to sleep 2 children downstairs (2 extra beds were provided & this still left plenty of living space). The cottage was well equipped with everything needed for preparing meals etc.
The cottage had a small enclosed garden with table & chairs & a brick barbecue. Steps lead up to a large grassed area with plenty of room for relaxing or playing. We had the pool to ourselves for the majority of the time which was great. The area is really safe for children to play and explore & there are various animals which the children were able to help with on a couple of occasions.
There was a small barn with a pool table & games & books along with a washing machine & extra fridge freezer if you need to use it. There's also local produce for sale (honey, eggs, wine etc.)
The couple who own the cottages are usually on hand to offer advice on places to visit in the area & restaurants to eat at. They made us feel really welcome & we knew they were available if we needed anything but they also left us to it & we felt very relaxed & left to our own devices.
There's plenty do do within a short drive of the cottages. During our stay we visited Bergerac, a medieval chateaux, a traditional French market & spent an afternoon canoeing down the Vezere. We also found a lovely lake with a beach which was perfect for swimming which was only 15 minutes away.
We would highly recommend Trois Maisons, so much so that we have booked to return this summer!

Simply wonderful
This was our second visit to Trois Maison and hopefully not our last! Tim and Sarah are amazing hosts and equally amazing people. Whether you are a family with young children a family with teenagers or like us travelling as a couple the location/accommodation is so versatile that it suits all the above. Tim and Sarah always go that extra mile, whether it be fresh tomatoes from their garden or mushroom foraging (that my husband had the pleasure of this visit in Tim and Sarah's vast acres!) or simply enjoying their company with a glass or two of local wine! The gites are rustic, well equipped and comfortable. If you want a chilled out holiday that is set in the most amazing location then this is the place for you.
About the host
Hosted by sarah austin
We moved to France in 2002, from the South of England. Sarah had a background working with animals, especially horses, Tim had his own groundworks company. We met only 18 months before moving here,we decided to take the plunge, neither of us speaking french! We have learnt as we have gone along, taught by our neighbours, with many a laugh at our expense. We have learnt enough french to run our own carpentry business in the area, doing traditional oak work. We were married in our village in 2005, much to the delight of all the locals, who supplied all the liquids necessary, good and bad!
Why they chose this property
We are country people and when we found Les Trois Maisons, with its fantastic view and large farmhouse kitchen we knew that it was for us - we loved the idea of renovating 3 ruins and a very smelly house! It was a long hard slog over 5 years, doing all the work ourselves, but now as all our guests tell us, it is a wonderful property in a beautiful situation. We have been adopted by our local agricultural community, which we participate in and gives us a very enjoyable lifestyle.
What makes this property unique
we enjoy the fine weather of SW France and the agricultural ambiance, walk our dogs regularly through the country lanes and woods, where we gather mushrooms and chestnuts in good french style. Although we are rural, the small local village is convenient, with all facilities, it can be reached on foot, by bicycle, and occasionally by car if you must!
